SimCity 2013

So apparently, Kotaku did some tests that indicate that it is possible to play the game with the Ethernet cord yanked out for up to 20 minutes. A Maxis anonymous insider source also confirmed that SimCity servers do not in fact handle the city simulation calculations.

Now, EA is facing a PR disaster that they are desperately trying to fight.

Nice articles but I'm afraid EAs failures won't help. With Diablo 3 and this version of SimCity the consumers have proven that they absolutely WILL buy games with always online DRM. No matter how loudly they bitch about it afterwards, they still buy the game, and bitching doesn't undo the purchase. As long as you people still buy games with no offline mode, this shit is going to get more and more common, and the cries of "foul" are going to get weaker and weaker.

EAs explanations were proven to be bullshit this time, but next time they may just not offer an explanation. Actiblizzard, Ubi, and EA are all three apparently okay with this online verification crap, so we shouldn't expect it to stop on its own.

Youre somehow right, but you fial to see the big picture. The only thing that sold both of those games is huge and i mean fucking HUGE hype built around em, i mean cmon were talking about diablo. And still i think they didnt sell that well as they would with offline mode(this applies twice to simcity).

Online DMR is just damn unpopular thing and its gonna cause two things - more popularity to indie games since gamers wont eventually put up with this shit and second HUGE raise of piracy.
And dont gimme that "this cant be cracked" BS, diablo is cracked im pretty sure simcity will be too.
DMR was, is and always will be one step behind pirates. Remember that revolutionary and impenetrable protection "Securom"? Damn right you dont, none does, coz it eventually got cracked.

The ultimate solution for the future is just no dmr at all, something like gog.com is doing.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's really that simple. EA has the right to publish SimCity(5) as is it, and you have the right to buy or not buy it. Complaining about it wont change anything, because those who like the game won't listen to you, and EA won't listen to you because there are those who still like the game.

Be constructive and support small dev shops, instead. =)
