Chisel, Alch, Vaal + Sextant = No map sustain?
" Sigh, I'm not even going to reply to this. I'll give you a moment to come to your senses and edit your post, before it's done for you. I'll give you a piece of advice: Attack my argument, not my person. Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done. Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more. " Point made and received, the map pixies comment made me see red after a week of battering my head against a brick wall this league which doesn't excuse ripping into you. Last edited by Vampyress86#5708 on Mar 27, 2019, 8:53:31 AM

" No problem, I figured as much, which is why I decided to wait. I've been there, and I've paid for it. :) I didn't mean to be patronising with my post, I've just seen this league after league for years now, exactly the same posts by different people, always the same complaint, all the while poe.trade is absolutely packed with maps for sale. Obviously, they drop, they just don't drop for you, hence the RNG part of my argument. I've had plenty of maps and I'm not even far on the Atlas (no time to play, rip me) but I've also had leagues where I had to ask my friends for help with map sustain, it's just the way of the game. I understand you don't need exalts to play, you don't need 6L to play, you don't need Loreweave to play and you absolutely do need maps to play, but... this is a trading game. If you don't get them yourself, buy them. If you play SSF, you agreed to the challenge and you can't complain being beaten by RNG. That's what SSF is all about. It is for those who want to "live off the land". If you don't enjoy that, don't do it. The golden rule the way I see it, regarding SSF: If you have any expectations at all, do not play SSF. Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done. Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more. 'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league. Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave. Last edited by Xavathos#5130 on Mar 27, 2019, 9:16:48 AM

" You are absolutely right, sadly due to the economy being much smaller this league buying maps is a severe pain when you are relying heavily on chaos vendor recipe to bolster your currency supply. That said I have been buying bases to try crafting for profit so the winds might change. I have been a bit cursed this league, not even finding outposts in delve let alone everything else. After next week I am back to work after being on leave and will only have a few hours at the weekend (rip me too) so I guess I was putting more pressure on myself to build up a map stock beforehand and blowing off some steam. Worst case I can always go to standard and nuke my maps there instead of raging like a salty sailor on the forums lol. |

" I have the utmost sympathy for your salty waves. I can give you an example of mine this league if it makes you feel better: I wanted a Disintegrator for my Divine Ire build. I laughed at the people asking an ex for a 5L on trade, the audacity! HA! I decided I would make it myself with half the currency, EZ. -COUGH- Took nearly 1000 jewellers to 6 socket, which alone is already more than 2 ex, then I had to start the fus process, after 300 fus (another ex), it was a 2L. In PoE, even Karma one shots you. But at the end of the day, that's just my own expectations kicking my ass. Just like you expected your free time spent to be "worth it", you didn't achieve that goal by pure chance and you're pissed off about that. Totally understandable, but still the nature of the beast. Set your expectations to zero, that way you will never be disappointed. The trick then becomes motivating yourself to do anything at all. Welcome to my world, we've gone a full circle now. xD Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done. Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more. yea 99.6 currently, having like 10 red maps LOL.
Using everything when I have it: vaal, chisel, elder shaper/influence, bloodlines, sextants. Running crit, minmax, double added ele damage maps, no regen even with berserker degen. There just isnt dropping shit ever for me. Doing Syndicate Safehouses, Temples and Delves all the time. Still not enough. But yea I also wasted a lot of sextants and chisels for unshaping/undoing maps in the beginning so that might be the missing part here. I wanna run toxic sewers and canyon till 100 but the game forces me to run shaped glacier and shaped marshes all the time. Last league I was fine with shaped tropical island and shaped infested valley. No sustain problems whatever eventhough I ignored betrayal content completely. And god is shaped burial chambers such a dogshit tier 11 map I really miss haunted manions and/or underground sea. There is no tier 11 shaped map that is really worthwhile I guess I gonna unshape burial chambers and just do Infested Valley unshaped or whatever ... That also might be a reason cause in the previous leagues the player had either haunted mansion or underground sea with huge density to build up a red map properly while now all the tier 6 maps are completely not worth of being shaped. It is funny though how spamming blue shaped glaciers gives the same somewhat bearable 6 mio xp/hour at lvl 99 as fucking burial chambers eventhough there is absolutely no danger for a 10k ehp char except accidently running reflect so maybe they were really serious with their "yellow maps should be the majority of the game" statement. " Aww it does help to know i'm not alone! Then again I did have a lot of luck last league with 6 linking and elder drops so I guess this is just the evening out of it all, although he got a headhunter last league so *shrug*. Last edited by Vampyress86#5708 on Nov 12, 2021, 9:09:02 AM

I have around 40 red maps varying from T11 to T16, where i have less T15s than T16s. Unlocking only the "goood bases" so around 120 atlas.
My map returns are abysmal by feel, yet I am able to stay in red zone. But, i keep encountering Einhar over any other encounter. It's like Einhar has 50% spawn rate when Alva, Zana and Nico have like 5% with empty gap before spawning Masters. And it's bad, since Einhar does not help map sustain in any sense. Alva - Temple is big free zone which drops maps and scale with highest Incursion portal opened Zana - free map, go figure Nico - go deep, go to city, maps can spawn there Memories are in every zone, my "luck" is getting 1 map per 10 memories +- I don't do Nexus, because i find the whole content to be as shitty as it can get. So, maybe the balance will go around other map returns from other than regular map sources, maybe it will go towards the Nexus, to help sustain. But in that case i am fucked. I would like to have guaranteed map drop of the same tier at least when having 100% quantity (map roll, fragment, sextants). That might help to keep us moving forward rather than going back 2-3 tiers down since we ran out of the good stuff I represent only myself, my own thought and believes. I am individual, not a representative of the community. I am not speaking on behalf of someone else and I don't get offended by things that have nothing to do with me. 3.13 was the golden age. It seems like the recent changes to map drops really negatively affects players that use a shaped strategy.
What is your atlas bonus (for those struggling)? I'm in SSF and basically completing full atlas (I think I'm at 149 right now) and I have plenty of red maps. Some people are complaining about T16 Elder map sustain, which I never understand as GGG never intended players to be able to sustain T16 maps. Whether they should or not is probably a different discussion. If you complete the full atlas the sustain is much better imo and a lot less stressful. Rather than shapning the atlas, if you are in a trade league I would compete as many maps as you can... sell the ones you don't want and buy shaped maps you do want. It's more trading, but is less stressful in the long run. Especially with that new Poe live maps application. A lot of people complaining about sustain are using a shaped strategy and using "red maps" as a synonym for T16 shaped maps. This behavior may be intended by GGG to encourage people to complete the atlas... who knows. |

" I am full atlas clearing with an eventual focus on uber elder farming, I have only shaped maps I enjoy clearing rather than focussing on the profit making perspective there. 140% atlas bonus completion with more maps actually completed just without bonus. Just having rotten luck. After running 9 t9's all alch'd and an alch/corrupt t14 I have made 0 red maps (not overly expected) and 3 t10's sigh. Just settling myself for a loooong ride lol :) |
