Stress Test Weekend impressions/suggestions

I'm kind of split down the middle on the cut-throat style of looting.

Having never had personalized looting in my 13 years with this genre I don't really require it to enjoy the game.

However, I do agree that this discourages group play. In D2 for example, the people who got the loot from most boss encounters were the people with faster computers and internet connections. The Diablo boss fight in Act 4 is a prime example. I used to get about 2-3 seconds of lag when he died back in the day and by the time the spike was over the loot was gone. So I never even seen what dropped let alone have a chance to pick it up.

I don't know if that's an issue here or not since I have one of the best computers that can be had now as well as cable internet and I haven't noticed any lag (other than server lag here and there because of testing, or w/e).

But I also haven't grouped yet out of habit. I usually only group with friends for these very reasons. So I don't know how group play is affected and the game isn't even finished yet.

(Plus I'm used hardcore and public hardcore almost always led to certain death from cheaters with hacks)

Well said.. Agreed.

But like the rest i aslo agreed on cut-throat method..

So what is the solution?
Ans:

A) Optional Loot System:-
1. Free for AlL loot
2. Loot By Class.
3. Random Loot
4. Sequence Loot

B) Loot for:-
1. Normal and above
2. Magical and above
3. Rare and above
4. Unique and above

note: if i miss out more pls add on to it.

Thus indeed of forcing players on fixed loot system, give them the abiliy to select YES or NO.
Nowadays games are made in the way that they dont give player the option to CHOOSE anymore.. which i feel is a too restrictve. One of my main requirement for a game is, freedom to CHOOSE. if its missing i wont bother playing.

Hello friends, if you look at Beta Manifestation, you will aware that most of your requests are already in the progress, but if you have further suggestions you could do to their own topics, have a look at this section.

You don't have to bind your portal scroll. Just open your inv and right-click on the scroll.

I was talking about the Portal spell (I found the gem last night before I signed off for the night, it's a colorless gem that fits into any gem slot and is at max level already)

I agree. I hadn't considered having a choice. Regardless, I feel that some method should be in place to keep the balance fair for those that want it. As I stated in another post, I am almost always a ranged class and I lose 95% of the drops to melee classes because it takes me 2 seconds to get to the drop while they are standing right next to it. That is an unfair disadvantage to ranged classes in a cut-throat system.

With cut-throat I simply will not group with strangers. Many others have said the same. To keep things fair and to promote grouping between strangers to potentially forge new friendships I feel that some form of personalized looting should be in place. It would make the game a much more social game.

Rolling for loot like WoW would be silly though. It would take hours to get anywhere. If that's what you mean.

This however doesn't make sense to me. I don't know of any other game in this genre which doesn't force a cut-throat loot style on the player. D3 and GW2 are going to have personalized loot, but they aren't released yet and also don't give a choice. D2 was also forced cut-throat, no choice.

So does this mean you have not and will not play any other hack and slash game at all? This one is even free yet you aren't going to play if it doesn't give the choice? Have you paid for other games which didn't give the choice?

I'll be playing regardless. I can play solo and be perfectly happy if I have to. I'm used to playing solo 75% of the time anyway (the other 25% is with friends). I was just looking to make the game more friendly so people could meet more people and potentially make more friends. One of the biggest turn-offs to people about this genre from what I read at my other forums is the lack of social players. I blame that on the need to play solo to avoid grief.

Personally one thing I would like is an option to show how much damage my attacks and spells are doing .

Also, I really liked how the areas change and exploring every part of them but I didn't really like the design of the map in some areas was hard to see . I adjustied the opacity to it but didn't really help much. Would also like to see my character wearing their gear when i open up my characters equipment menu.

And one more thing, more blood effects from slain monsters would be cool.

I agree, the Act 1 was easy..

Btw one thing: Is there a way to see the exact damage of our hit?

I don't see the need for exact damage and think the flashing numbers wouldn't look good. Why aren't the health bars enough? That being said if it's an option players can choose to turn on and off, I have no problem with it.

Individual drops have been discussed a lot over the last year or so, especially with the it's introduction onto D3.

To be honest the Pro's out weigh the Con's, by a long way.

Any game that promotes grouping/team play and then promotes negative group play will encounter a few issues. Mainly no one will like to group with strangers.

The one reason I hear from forum goers and mods is they want the game to be a bit more cut throat. But there is a fine line between global drops being a fun cut-throat game mechanic and pure frustrating/griefing.

I agree, I would like to see individual loot implemented.
I'm not against an option for showing damage done, but I'm really happy with just the health bars. Other than the mini-map, which has been covered, I don't have any concrete suggestions. Well...maybe one. The AI didn't seem to always have a uniform response. Ranged skeletons that wouldn't always engage or would move in too close before backing out of melee, etc. Casters on the other hand were throwing things at me from off-screen which was awesome. Otherwise I'm really happy with the graphics, the spell/elemental/weapon effects etc.
Even before i played in the weekend test, watching videos on youtube of pathofexile i noticed that all or most curses have the same animation, with a different symbol/color in the center of the floating "Bubble" that is placed on your enemies.

I think that doing this has taken away distinction and individual speciality of all the skills that look this way. As players we look forward to new skills/abilities and point out what makes those skills special from others.

In short no Cookie Cutter looking skills ! Im just talking about the aesthetics, not the actual functionality of the skill itself.

^ a personal opinion.

I really have enjoyed the weekend test, and many aspects of this game are revolutionary: skill gems, transmutation Orbs, the massive passive skill tree, etc.

i had little if no lag or rubberbanding whatsoever, even for it being the stress test weekend. so far its running smooth and the gameplay is enjoyable.

as for the cutthroat loot system, why does it HAVE to be either a free for all or purly individualized loot.. why not have both? in other words loot that drops for everyone AND loot that drops for the individual? then you wouldnt know what another person can see or not. make it randomized so any item that drops has the chance of being visible to you alone or everyone. so you get the best of both worlds ! (just throwing ideas out there)
