Bonus Screenshot: Overlay Map (work in progress)
" You are advocating dumbing the game down to a incompetent-proof level. How about monitoring what items successful players posses and giving the same to unsuccessful ones? Or "wizard" to guide unsuccessful players, clicking the skill buttons the way successful players do, maybe? Where exactly is "real life skills / abilities match in-game achievements" part? An overlay map is essential, like people have suggested, it should interfere less, have adjustable transparency settings, and not be overly complicated etc.
Personally, I don't like map overlays, because I like to explore dungeons visually, and I have a keen sense of where I have and have not been. |

" How about using some logic instead? It will work out much better for you. |

Tormenta, do you know what a RPG is? From a pen and paper RPG point of view, there should be no real life skills involved since you play a character. If I'm clever and my character is dumb, I have to act dumb. (unless you count the strategy in building your character, but you are still tied to what he can do)
Now, I know this is a video game and a action RPG one, so there is some skills involved, but I do not understand why an overlay map should ruin your skills. An unsuccessfull player will be beaten in PvP, and for PvE you should not care since most people will play solo or if they play coop, they can help each other.(I'm thinking default league here) In a unrelated note(and to make sure I am not trolling ), I think you might like the game Progress quest :) Greetings mortal, are you ready to die?

I like having options . sometimes an overlay map is handy/helpfull , sometimes i want to open up a full map , and sometimes the minimap/radar is all i need . so long as you can toggle off the overlay display its all good . would like full map or a quick switch key to make the overlay 'solid' . possibly have 2 map setups hotkeyed one for very transparent and one for less transparent. --- .

@ Sickness
It's totally logical to implement area randomizer AND overlay map. Good game! "I am The Banisher, the ill will that snuffs the final candle." - Seal of Doom (MTG)

" Absolutely. You enter the wilderness, the area is random and you don't know where the transition to the next is. As you fight your way through hordes of monsters going further into the area you make notes on landmarks and the layout of the area, creating a map as you go to refer to if you reach a dead end or want to fully explore the area. |

You could keep a trail of string behind you to lead you back to the cave entrance. Haha.

" There's COLOSSAL difference mapping and memorizing area "in your head" and letting others / machine doing it for you. Since it's impossible to explain such a thing to one(s) probably already dependant on and using GPRS / GoogleMaps wherever and whenever possible, I give up. Have your overlay maps and other "aids", and enjoy deluding yourself of being capable of orienting in space. LOL! " Good idea. To teach players putting their hope of returning back into string alone a lession, monsters should be able to cut it and route to horde-infested chamber. They should also be able to snuff torches left behind to light up passed areas. Oh wait, we don't have torches! What we have is zillion times seen unknown source of light above our head, capable of lighting up even those areas invisible to eye, like behind the walls. Damn - I hoped to see logic-driven and 2011. technology-level game. My bad! "I am The Banisher, the ill will that snuffs the final candle." - Seal of Doom (MTG)

It would be great if you could have the map in a re-sizable window that could be dragged onto a second monitor if you have one. Also it would be cool to be able to display the map on an external device like an iPhone or iPad etc that is connected via wifi to your PC. :-)
