Bonus Screenshot: Overlay Map (work in progress)

its not really that important .. you can already see the layout of where you are from your surroundings. Whats important is seeing where you want to go. The center of it wasnt completely transparent either .. it just had an alpha reduced low enough so u can just slightly see it.
I recently started playing Din's Curse after taking a break from the game for a while. The reason I bring it up is because in DC there are only two map options, mini-map (which is displayed by default) and world map (which you hit the m key to see). I find my self hitting the m key quite a lot in this game. I never really thought about it before (I guess because most games I play don't have overlay maps), but now every time I hit the m key I think about this thread and how an overlay map would clearly be superior. I'm interested to see the progress on PoE's overlay.

An overlay map is a must if there are going to be complex level designs, which is clear already

My personal thoughts on it are that it should not have colours to the main stay of it, they are far too distracting

The only things which needed highlighting is yourself and doors/steps

i really dislike maps which are complex to the point that you can basically tell what is around the corner due to the overlay map scheme

the best 1 i can think of was on baldurs gate for the ps2, wasnt overly keen on diablo's

the main thing is it has to be translucent, having an option to change the translucency would be a key point for me
I know you will do your best and the result will be super.I like mini maps and visible entry and exit (red, blue color) after 3 hours of killing hard mobs is hard to navigate in random generated map.And don't see yourself as point but arrow. In the D2 is sometimes map reall maze but it's also a partial intention explore new things. You might surprise us something unique.Have the option to change the intensity can be really good.

My opinion is... a little bit distracting... it kinda block your view. I'd like it a bit more... transparent maybe... you can see it, but still look through it.

Otherwise, good detailed, maybe a little too good ;) but... the doors... I think you need a better icon or way to see where the doors are. Now they're the brownish colour right? Hmm... maybe if you made the walls more simple, I mean... the overlay map doesnt really need to show every pillar. And then make the doors more visible...
Above content may contain traces of nonsense.

Reality is simply an unrealistic version of online gaming.

The map in baldur's gate was awesome. Transparent (except for save points), simple, adjustable in size. This should be guidelines for the map in PoE.

Great work though, I like the 3D perspective of the map even though it's obstrusive.
Greetings mortal, are you ready to die?
I like the fact that it's detailed. I've ran into trouble with TorchLight's overlay from time to time because it's a bit too minimalist. For instance, there is a level that is basically a bunch of small islands connected by bridges, but the overlay map does not display the bridges. So, when you bring up the overlay map, you can see the islands, but you have no way of knowing if there were multiple bridges leaving the islands, which makes the overlay map pretty worthless in that situation.

Overlay minimaps are really great for being able to quickly and easily show you where you are in relation to the world without having to squint at a tiny map in the top right corner.

Any sort of map works against dark and horror theme. And real life skills.

yes, but if it's a pain to find new areas, and you're spending more time trying to remember doors than killing things, the game won't be popular
Gaza is right. There needs to be some sort of map. It'd be too easy to get lost and even easier to miss portions of the dungeon.
