Is the in-game camera/ POV fixed?

I looked throughout the different media files and they seem to use only one angle of camera.

Will it be possible to change/rotate/zoom in-out or is it limited to a fixed state (top-view) by the engine?

I'm asking, because, in this type of game, the camera can be a natural enemy added to the swarm of mobs. I don't mean knowing what' coming up three screens in advance, but, a little freedom is always welcomed.

Thx, keep up the good work!

Good question Taco. Curious about this as well.
The fixed view in Torchlight was not to my liking.
We're going with a fixed perspective camera for several technical and artistic reasons.

We found that players spent more time struggling with a rotatable camera than actually playing the game.

We want the game to be extremely accessible to new players, which is why we have chosen controls that are simple and familiar to people who have played previous action RPGs. This simplicity encourages a consistent camera angle.

One of the reasons we're able to produce art that looks detailed and realistic is that we can control the angles and distance that it's viewed at.

We'll probably allow some degree of zooming in a little bit.

I got another question regarding the view:

Can you zoom out, or is zooming not available too? like in Diablo 2.

I wouldn't have any concerns with a fixed camera (fixed zoom), BUT, in PvP for example it can be annoying when the enemy is out of your view, but you got long range shots, and cant view further than .. 8 meters?

I would be happy, if you could answer me with your standpoint on this.

I think in many cases where the camera could be panned/zoomed/rotated, most players (myself included) would either play around with it, then reset it to the default settings and leave it there, or move it to whatever best suited their playstyle and leave it there. So adding a movable POV is not necessarily the most beneficial from a standpoint of the time and effort involved.

If the game is well-designed graphically from the top-down camera angle, it will play fine (witness D2).

I would really like to see an answer on my question.

You can't zoom out any further than the default distance.

We investigated various distances and picked this one for gameplay and performance reasons.

Most other action RPGs also have a fixed view angle and distance. I understand that traditional MMORPGs allow full camera freedom, but our game is not like them at all. The game feels a lot better when the player is focussed on killing monsters, rather than manipulating the camera :)

i argue with a buddy of mine constantly over the fixed camera issue. i personally like it while he hates it. in the past i have never had a problem with a fixed camera in a game
I prefer a fixed camera as well when it comes to this style of game.

I do support fixed camera 100%. I'm in the same opinion that he non-fixed camera doesn't fit an ARPG. BUT my question stands, how will ranged characters do in PvP, when you have to kite/snipe with long range skills. :/
How do you approach this "problem"?
