[Guide] Pinning characters to your profile page

The Path of Exile forum allows you to pin characters to your profile page.

Here is what that looks like;



To pin a character, you can click the pin icon next to either your highest level Hardcore charater, or highest level non-Hardcore character. While not directly facilitated by the website, it is possible to pin other characters to your profile page with some minor tweaking.


I confirmed with GGG that this is allowed prior to posting the guide.


All examples are posted assuming the following;

• Your highest level Hardcore character is called High_HC.
• The character you wish to pin is called Arbitrary_Char.

As this obviously will not be the case, you will need to substitute the character names mentioned with your own names. The reason I did this is that it saves me typing multiple words every time I refer to a character, which would be annoying both to type and to read.


Instructions for Firefox

• Go to your profile page. This link should work for everyone.
• Right-click on a pin icon. It doesn't matter which one.
• Choose Inspect Element (Q).
• You should see something like data-charactername="High_HC".
• Double-click on this, and replace High_HC with Arbitrary_Char.
• Tap the Enter button on your keyboard to enter that text.
• Click the pin icon next to the charater name you replaced.

Instructions for Chrome / Chromium / Vivaldi

• Go to your profile page. This link should work for everyone.
• Right-click on a pin icon. It doesn't matter which one.
• Choose Inspect.
• Scroll down a bit.
• You should see something like data-charactername="High_HC".
• Double-click on this, and replace High_HC with Arbitrary_Char.
• Tap the Enter button on your keyboard to enter that text.
• Click the pin icon next to the charater name you replaced.

FAQ



Is this allowed by GGG?

Yes.



Does this involve hacking the server?

No.

Your browser downloads the web page and shows it to you. You make changes to your copy of it. Then your browser sends a request to the server to pin your character.



Can I use this to pin other people's characters?

No.

If you try you will receive the error message There was an error adding this pin.



Do I need to modify the league, class, or level information?

No.

Modifying the character name will be sufficient.



What does the pin icon look like?




When I try this something weird happens. What should I do? Don't say disable your browser addons.

I'd really prefer not to bother, but if people absolutely can't follow the step-by-step guide above then I'll probably do it at some point. Please do try first? :/

Why do you post so many guide threads? It's kinda weird.

It is!

People see that I've different colour text and PM me asking for help. Sometimes it's less effort to do a good job of explaining something once and then link people to that instead of having to type up a long response every time. Also this way it might help more people.
