It's much simpler than that.
They want you to buy stash tabs.
And you buy stash tabs.
Praised be tencent.

GGG has a strong desire to punish you for picking up items which is exactly why they have not implemented a feature where you can offload items that belong into a speciality tab such as the Currency, Maps, Essences, Divinations, ect tabs with a hotkey or a button. They could but they want to punish you for picking up and trying to keep things by making you spend a good portion of your gameplay manually placing things in their respective tabs.
Hi!
What you might be talking about is auto-stashing, which completely negates the purpose of a couple of things: 1) the purpose of a player's inventory, 2) the experience of obtaining goods / accumulating wealth. Which in an aRPG are vital, and from my experience since D2 days, extremely rewarding.
It is funny because the thing you call rewarding is the thing that made me quit.
For one its partial auto stashing, and for two you don't have to press the button if you get such a emotional reward of manually placing every single little fragment into its space.
I also talked about more than one change than auto stashing.

This is probably a troll post, but in case its not..
I have no problem buying stash tabs and their scheme to sell them. What I am saying is those bought tabs should have auto stashing. The specialty one that have their assigned spot. Not auto stashing equipment and stuff like that.

I'm sure that made sense in your head but that sense didn't survive the treacherous journey from your brain to my screen. Sorry. :(
That journey is limited to your brain alone.
