Why is casting speed so much better than spell damage?

Your wrong if u believe 100% SD beats a 50% with cast spd.
For EK user then SD is much better. But lets compare that to a Freezing pulse user for a sec here.

More cast on FP = more crit chance to proc = more dmg from multiplier + more freeze.
But with high SD, sure u will hit hard but not as fast as the one with cast spd.
In comparison and real test will show that the wand with cast spd will be winning. I've tested it and even wrote a guide on it. But if you still wanna argue that high SD will win over a average SD with cast spd then u are clearly blinded by spell damage and not considering other factors.

I'd take the 50% SD + cast speed and crit ANYDAY before the 100% SD!

Actually a %100 sd weapon will make better dps than %50 sd %15 cs weapon on any spell. You are forgetting critical bonuses which makes the higher multiplier ( sd ) even higher.

Secondly, taking that spell dmg on a plain skill will most likely make the 100% SD better than the 50% one, but cold witches always have (or should atleast) a base crit chance..

Thing is, you can drop a Faster Casting gem in with your spells and get the equivalent boost of many many Cast Speed nodes. I don't believe there is any gem that would give the same kind of flat-out Spell Damage boost that the various SD nodes around the place provide. Penetration maybe but it's hard to tell as the DPS readout doesn't change when you add or remove that gem.
