anyone having luck with winter orb?

WO + 2x beltimbers + cwc ice spear. 4x free proj and far shot. Switch to 1 grelwood if you wanna be all in your face with the boss (which would make ice spear useless tho).

Base damage is super awful, but it has 60% effectiveness, so disintegration staff or full fire conversion with martyr seems like a good bet as well.

I'm testing it out currently with CWC and Arc because why not got for two skills that auto-target everything nearby instead of one! Works pretty well but haven't got to maps yet.

6L = Winter Orb + CWC + Arc + Added Lightning + Added Cold + Controlled Destruction.

Focused on crit and generic elemental damage with Inquisitor.

Playstyle is hold down right-click if anything is nearby then move to next pack. Was easiest Malachai Act 4 kill ever with the small arena. My Arc and Winter Orb just switched from Malachai to the hearts whenever necessary. I just stood in the middle of the arena.

It's sort of like playing a totem build except that I'm the totem.

im trying it with totems and it cant compare to arc totems, which honestly saddens me.

Anyone having any luck?

it's not a totem skill. And arc is better for leveling hands down. Worb is better for endgame, hands down :>

I am running 3 winter orb totems in main setup linked to gmp, cold pen, hypothermia, inc critical damage. Then I run a second totem setup with multiple totems support for an additional 2 totems. Here I use Ice Nova linked to bonechill to boost the damage of the 3 main totems and swap it out with arctic breath vs bosses that cannot be frozen and or has too much hp to get a huge chill effect.

This way I have 5 totems out(not using soul mantle as I plan to use lorweave) and my main damage totems are not affected by the multiple totem support damage reduction. On top of this I run Vaal RF with increased duration for a 39% more spell damage modifier. I plan on running a malachais artifice ring with lightning trap in it to have Elemental Equilibrium vs shaper and uber elder. I also recently bought a Dying Sun flask for 2 additional projectiles and 2%ish increased aoe. The aoe helps for the orb explosions to overlap so that ramped up the damage a whole lot.

Since winter orb totems need stages to ramp up you need a little bit of cast speed mixed with survivability for your totems. I picked up all the totem life and resist nodes on the tree, ruinning a spire of stone jewel to make them immune to stun (stunned totems do not cast anything... BIG issue late game) and a jewel with 10% totem resist. All this had to be done to keep the totems alive long enough to battle the red tier syndicate members with max stages.

I have played arc totems before and I feel winter orb is comparable and even possibly better vs bosses but require a lot more knowledge about the game to get going properly. I can probably change a lot of things still to tune the damage but sofar I have not met that bump in the road to bother.

Oh and I also force myself to play with shield both for survivability and to prepare for +1 totem craft whenever someone unlocks it and runs a service :)

Hmm.. one of my initial thoughts about WO was combining it with cwc Whispering ice. Everything you want to link on the Ice Storm also works for WO, so it could be even worth 6L the staff.

Im just wondering that nobody mentioned this option in their tests.
You say Prison Cell, I hear 'Holiday'.

Was considering this option but cwc for ice storm kind of wants you to channel all the time and at that point you might as well want to go scorching ray and full fire conversion. Especially since winter orb wants you to use gmp and whispering ice does not. The stuff that makes it interesting though is even at level 20 winter orb costs like no mana.

If anything I would still go Scion elementalist Slayer vaal pact low life. Takes quite a bit of unique jewels and high int/es gear to get to that point though. I was thinking of going it as starter but decided not to.

Occultist WO+cwc+arctic breath+GMP+Bone chill+hypothermia here, i wanted some hit/dot hybrid and also tanky, i am very pleased by the build, she clears very fast(as fast as you can run with duration on tree for WO) bossing is average but that is to be expected when your in ssf with garbage gear, got to red maps bosses chill/freeze easy time, also having 3 curses and the chill effect is awesome.
I run it self-cast. It's great for Cast While Channeling. My setup is:

Winter Orb - CWC - Arctic Breath - GMP - Hypothermia - Bonechill.

If you put it in a Shaper staff with Cast While Channeling built in, then you can also add in Controlled Destruction.

Arctic Breath is great with it as they both benefit from additional projectiles (AB can also AoE shotgun against single targets with multiproj, just like Winter Orb). They both benefit fully from all those support gems. And they both continue doing damage even while you're running about (unlike Ice Spear, which also has that minimum range issue) - Winter Orb from its built up stages, AB from its ground DoT. And Winter Orb ensures the mana cost of such a 6-link (or even 7-link in a Shaper staff) is next to nothing. :)

Lol! We both use the same setup and even posted at the same time. :D 'Cept I'm playing it as a Trickster instead. :)
