I also noticed that there are a lot of these games right now. But its good! I like these type of games and now you get some fresh meat to play!

Was Diablo the first of its kind? what was the predecessor to Diablo if there was one

Well, I'd say everything started when Blizz said something about D3. Everyone gets excited about it and some devs pick up this excitement and try to make their own stuff.
Well Blizz started with Diablo the whole hunt and collect item stuff. You had some Action-RPGs when Diablo came out but most of them had their focus on "story". You played them through in sp or mp and were done. Blizz were the first ones to shift the focus on items. just saying ...

" In some ways Diablo is a roguelike, similar to Nethack. It had a much narrower focus than Nethack, but it had more variety in weapons and armour, and obviously the graphics were far better. Also, roguelikes are typically turn-based, whereas Diablo was realtime. Diablo was definitely unique and spawned a host of imitators, but it certainly had influences spanning back to the 80s. |
