Tooltips suck, should be easy fix, why are they so misleading?

The tooltips are nearly worthless, obviously.

It doesn't seem like it should be so hard. Right now the damage is wrong, the tags are misleading, the whole thing sucks.

Why not add tags for the different elements of skills, put some work into correct damage (why is a third party app path of build better than GGG???), and make it functional?

New Tooltip

Molten Strike: Melee hit, fires projectiles that explode

Melee hit:
DPS 9,540
Affected by melee, weapon, fire, physical, attack, elemental

Aoe Damage:
DPS per one ball 14,540
11 molten balls per hit
156,780 dps for all balls

Affected by projectile, weapon, fire, aoe, physical, attack, elemental

Am I wrong, why is this so hard? This is less a suggestion than curiosity if the community agrees or disagrees.

did GGG create pathofbuilding i dont know but tooltip is just to get a jist of the average damage potentially you could do since there are many cases/mapmods where you could do less or more damage
We love the super build sandbox of PoE to let us have a bazillion combos and then you wonder why GGG can't account for all possible DPS combinations in the tooltip. Get real.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

What planet do you live on where they can obviously calculate the actual damage done in game, but can't put it on a tooltip?
Because DPS is impossible to quantify. It means different things to different people, depending on what content and what conditions they're trying to figure out.

What's the DPS of my arc trapper? The damage on a single target who's standing close to me and has no unusual defenses? Which damage to that target? The damage of one trap? One set of traps, assuming all four trigger? The maximum number of traps I can throw in a second? With or without rotating in a bear trap every 3 seconds? Or should the tooltip ignore my blinding "nearby enemy" auras, and just calculate without those? And if so, under which of the above conditions? Or are we talking about the aoe damage? For one trap? 4 traps? All the traps I can throw in a second? For how many targets? Are they all "nearby"? Should we count the trap arming delay, or just the sustained damage peak? Is my tooltip limited by my mana regen?
The solution is a DPS meter that displace actual damage done... not a theoretical number.

Agreed, something like average DPS per target over last hour of gameplay.

Or add a tooltip setting tab that allows us to configure possibilities like PoB does - like taking into account res penetration, conditional "more" multipliers (point blank, Hypothermia's more damage to chilled targets, Double Strike's added phys against bleeding targets, etc), and multiple hits (the most misleading tooltips are with multi-hit skills like molten strike, ball lightning, toxic rain, blade flurry, etc).

Too much work for GGG, you say? I say it's too much work for players to use third-party tools to figure all this out, and we've just gotten used to it because of PoE's constant state of feeling like an unfinished beta test. Being shown at least an estimate of our actual dps should be absolutely basic and fundamental to the game, and it's entirely unacceptable that the in-game numbers right now are just false.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

or just add a dps dummy we can place in our hideout which calculates damage done etc. make it so we can adjust its resistance, hp, stats etc and allow us to set presets so we can mimic shaper, elder, uber atziri etc.

but hey we can just keep dreaming
