Question: Is this the "Fallout MMO" that Bethesda and Interplay were fighting over for the legal rights?

Sorry for my ignorance, haven't been keeping up on gaming news.

Nah, has nothing to do with the MMO.

I will skip this1 for sure, I do like fallout games, it’s not bad idea I think to do it in MP but have no time to spend.. And nothing will beat Fallout 1&2 they were t best! Good old times;)

I don’t need anger management, I need people to stop pissing me off!
Watched a couple of streams. It's literally Fallout 4 with multiplayer. I'll pass.

Im not at all excited about it, I was hoping for another fallout RPG not another shooter (with some RPG elements) like FO4
I dont see any any key!
Bumping with a hilarious post from Reddit.

Welcome to 5 reasons not to use an engine that you made entirely open and provided all the tools needed to mod that engine in an online game. Oh and how to entirely not secure anything for your users.

I am as much a Fallout and Bethesda fan as everyone else, I've sunk around 4000 hours into Fallout4 and have been making mods for about 2 years. So when I got into the PC Beta and it allowed me to download the client and files, I started playing with them.

Number 1: There are no server checks to verify models or file integrity. Want to make trees smaller, or player models bright colors to see them easier? Go right ahead, here are the tools to do it!

Number 2: Terrain and invisible walls/collision is client side! Want to walk through walls? Open up that beautiful .esm file and edit it. The server doesn't care or check!

Number 3: Want to save money on server hardware and make ping a little more manageable? Go ahead and open up client to client communication but don't encrypt it or obfuscate it in anyway. Open up Wireshark while playing and nab anyone's IP you want! Send packets to the server to auto use consumables, all very nicely and in plain text! Even get health info and player location, why waste time injecting the executable and getting nabbed by anti-cheat when you can get all info from the network!

Number 4: Want to grief people and be a God? Go ahead and keep looping the packet captured in Wireshark reporting you gave full HP. Why would the server care about something as little and not game breaking like this?!?! It's a great idea to let the client tell the server it's state and the server not check anything it's being told! The possibilities with this are endless and probably able to just give yourself items by telling the server you picked it up!

Number 5: Someone in your game being mean? Again have Wireshark? Well let's just forge a packet with the disconnect command in it and knock them offline!

In conclusion: Bethesda should not have just made Fallout76 by throwing mods on it from Nexus and sold it as a new game. Have fun in the wasteland gamers.

TL;DR: game basically has no server side verification which means it's entirely useless as an online game since everyone can easily cheat in various ways. Hope you didn't pre-order :D

EDIT: Looks like this thread won't bump because OP is on probation.

Some news about fo76 and personal opinion, despite the Bethesda meme release plenty of technical / gameplay issues / security breach issues / community management shitstorm i actualy really enjoy Fallout76.

Specialized press as usual destroyed this product without even trying it, main argue beeing the incredibly long list of bugs, but here is the fact, Bethesda can lack of professionalism at many levels but they never lied regarding that part to their customers, they said months before release that it would be a challenging project and that the release would probably suffer that's why lot of users decided to wait ( smart guys ) before buying, some others decided to buy ... and regret it afterwhile that's fine too.

As for gameplay this is a fallout, doing quests, killing stuff, looting stuff, having fun and even more now since you can do a bit of PvP and team up.

The story is pretty neat, i will regret as many others the inexistants humans NPC but here is the thing, different period, different story, i'm fine with the robots.

For those that got an opinion set in stone and arn't used to change it i doubt this post will make you think about it, for the others be sure you will eventualy want to try it one day or the other maybe it's safe to wait next year.
The project is huge and has a pretty good basis to make a great game to be honest with you guys, and don't forget where you come from, PoE has been suffering for many similar issues in it's early ages, press specialized used to destroy Warframe in it's early ages and last year and also this year decided to refresh all their reviews about this game at a point some of them compare it to AAA games, i have hope it will be the same thing for fo76 in the futur, for now expect a lot of frustrations if you arn't used to bugs or don't want to deal with.

I'm not a white knight or whatever, just think the actual userbase of fo76 is filled by angry customers that were all aware of a buggy release, and that it would be a Bethesda game meme release as usual, but then decided to buy it ! Why the fuck would you buy a game at release if you know you can't handle few bugs ?

In short for those that want to skip my shitty english skills: the game has potential but i would recommend to wait if you want to avoid a buggy structure, and a gameplay subject to changes really often.
Hf :)
