Do most people get stuck at T10 maps?

Yes the atlas does become very boring for us filthy casuals after we've played every challenge league since the Atlas was introduced and each and every time I never get over 100 checked off. Not because of difficulty but mostly because of time grind. As a "casual" the desire to attempt to fill it in isn't there anymore (the incentive is gone). I was much happier to grind out 4 Oni-Goroshi swords (even though the last 1 went the full distance and became a member of the Twilight Strand Level 9 Beach Club) in Incursion League than trying to fill in the Atlas or more of the league challenges. For me personally the biggest frustration is not getting anything close to an even rng chance on map drops (so I miss a few low level maps early and while dozens of other same level maps drop all the time the one I need won't and neither will Zana have it to buy. Then I say "f'ck this shit GGG" and if you expect me to waste any time trying to buy the map you're crazy without making maps buyable without having to hunt down a seller (and I know GGG doesn't give a shit about AFK or busy sellers either so a better trade system isn't likely to ever happen). Lack of red maps (starvation) is the last straw so "screw trying to complete the Atlas in 3 months". I'll look for other ways to find enjoyment in playing PoE or just take a break until next league.

GGG sure is garbage on providing quality of play features (but this has been going on for multiple years now so what else is new).

The changes you list help but it's a baby step as far as I'm concerned. Random map and harbinger orbs aren't worth it for pre T10 maps. The minute I have to buy maps to immediately do the next map I start to lose interest. Not everyone likes what you like and lots of people quit early on during maps. GGG knows they have a retention issue post A10, we'll see what changes they make over the next year.


It will be closer to the right game when they make delve permanent without requiring mapping(or quarry for those peeps). I never get bored in there and I don't need to trade for the next delve level, or continue to grind the previous one for a drop, to progress in that direction.

I have the time, I just lose the motivation for the atlas due to the way we need to get the maps we want.

now you're just under the wrong impression that GGG wants us to manually sustain t15 maps.

it was always intended that you can't fully sustain high tier maps. people can, and probably majority still do, and now with zana mods you're basically guaranteed to - but it was never intended to always get your map returns.

You can fully sustain high maps if you trade and know what youre doing.

Mapping has never been as fruitful as it is right now. It is almost numerical impossible for a single map to not net a gain over the long run.

I only have a couple of T10 completed so far. I've barely just started building up a T7 pool. I simply loathe buying maps and am overly stubborn about it. Hell, I have some missing T5 and lower still. And my build is amazing.

This pretty much sums it up for me. Trading in general is pretty much cancer, but map trading in particular is ridiculous. Fuck that, seriously. I much rather stop playing and do something else, which is usually what happens too. Great design, GGG.

Map drops are usually fine up to tier 8 or so, then it starts to become annoying. "Alch and go" stops working around tier 9 or 10, and when that's not viable anymore I just stop. There is absolutely no way I'm going to burn all my currency just to get a few red maps. I could, and I have in the past, but it's not worth it to me. The currency I have is what I pick up from the ground, and that is nowhere near enough to power through red maps.

Some leagues it's much better, but Standard that we're playing now is just awful for map sustainability. The system needs a rework from the ground-up. The Atlas, while looking cool, made things a lot worse overall I feel. The drop restrictions and the fact that some maps cannot be upgraded via vendor makes it a lot more annoying to complete. Add to that the Shaper vs Elder stuff (which in itself is very cool) that can permanently lock you into a corner of the Atlas that you've no desire to be in. How is that fun? It's work, that's what it is, not fun.

Obviously some white knight is going to respond to this and claim I'm doing things wrong, that I should learn to play or whatever. Fine. Fact is, however, that this is the experience I'm having and none of your elitism is going to change that.

if you don't want to buy maps, then you can use zana's mods to aid in your search. AKA run a tier 5 and add 5 lvls, if you've already completed some 9s and 10s then they can drop.

you can also run all of your 9s and 10s but change maps with the 1c zana mod. keep in mind at this point its cheaper and faster just to buy the map you want.

to grind a map you need, you need to continually run maps that are connected to it in the atlas, and it CAN eventually drop for you

I'm not upset about the system. I know how it is and I choose to play it my way, right or wrong. I was just sharing my experience, not bitching. The new zana mods are definitely a welcome addition.
