In game chat totally inappropriate

I was playing the beta last night and happen to have global chat open. The converstaions and comments in the open/global chat were totally inappropriate. Sound like teen age boys making lewd and sexual comments.

Hopefully something can be done about this, I know Darkspore had something in place that blocked certain words, if nothing else there should be some way to police or report this type of behavior.

This may not be important during the beta, but when this game goes public if you want children or others that dont want to listen to that type of stuff to play the game you better do something to eliminate it.

This was the US server.
This is not really a game for young children. When you allow children to use the internet and do not want them to see such language maybe you should limit the websites they can visit. In my opinion it is not the responsibility of the game developers to protect children from things like this, unless they specifically target younger children with their game, obviously.

I'm not againt a chat filter per se, as long as it has to be enabled in the client. However, I think at this time there are far more important things the developers should spend their time on.

From my experience, this seems to be present in every video game I play. The more mature players tend to socialize within their guilds, parties, private chat rooms, or through tells and whispers. However, the public channels are usually flooded with all matter of conversation, most of which ends up being inappropriate, vulgar, offensive, or just plain trolling. I tend to find that chatter entertaining, but I do understand the concerns that go along with it.

Most games come with a language filter and I'm sure this game would not be an exception. But, like you said, it's the beta and not a priority ATM and I'm sure it will be included at release.

What I would like to see is a specific chat channel for clean, mature conversations only that is moderated and very strict on the behavior that is allowed. If someone violates the rules of the channel, they receive a ban from that channel for a certain amount of time, say one day to start. As the number of violations increase, so too does the restriction.

What a total cop out.

The games "rating" while, maybe not "ok" for children, does not give one the "free reign" to behave how they wish.

I'm a 40 year old man, and i do not, and should not have to put up with offensive language/behavior in an online community.
I mentioned children, didnt really mean childern as much as women or any normal person that doesnt want to listen to gutter language and sexual content. These people show very little respect for anyone else in the game. If they were to act this way in public they would either get there face slapped, someone would tell them to shut up and if they had to talk like that to do it privately.

A parent should tell them what is appropriate, sad thing it was neccessarily teenagers that were doing it.

No one comes on to play a game like this and have to listen to that.

I assume that GGG like any other company wants to make money, and you need people playing the game to do that. Things that impact negatively the number of people that will play the should be something they want to eliminate..
To provide you with some 'official' input:

There's a Beta Manifesto thread regarding (future) chat moderation.

So far during the closed beta, we have only had limited moderation of game chat (giving people warnings for racial/hate speech and then banning them when they continue to offend). While this was all we could manage with our current manpower, it did mean that sometimes people couldn't be warned/banned until the next day, which let them continue to disrupt the community.

Before we enter Open Beta, we'll hopefully have fulltime support staff available to both answer questions and deal with any inappropriate forum posts or public chat in game.

This can't be your first online community... I have been gaming online for 10+ years and each and every one had this sort of behavior. My son (6 Years old) plays the games on the Nickelodeon website, and in the multiplayer ones you have children saying the same things.

Even in closed beta you have other options at your disposal:

You can hide global chat.
Ignore them.

Is pretty much spot on. Its a parents job to filter what their childeren sees, hears, ect.

As for personal taste, that is up to the devs. Adult games tend to give childish outcries from people in the chats. Look at barrens in WoW. It'll happen, ignore it and move one mate.
play hardcore league for improved community :P
