I have a quibble with the DPS numbers. The PoB has "your minions killed recently" checked. But during shaper fight that is most often not true. Thus the true shaper DPS is quite a bit lower than the quoted.

DPS is clearly good even still, but I like "realistic" PoB settings.

Hmm that's a good point. I'm casually pushing delve at the moment, so I have cast speed jewels equiped. But, if I swap them out for my damage jewels, the PoB will say 1.28mil shaper dps without "your minions killed recently" checked.

I'm looking forward to starting this build as my league starter. How long would you say it takes a spectre summoner to reach red maps?
Wow thank you for that guide and the effort you put in.
As i have less time then iam used to for poe, i really really appreciate full guides like that one, so i can play more and think less about builds etc.

I love Summoners and will start the new league with that one. Really well written and nice level progress shown from start do kill endgame.

So basically i wanted to say thank you and keep up your awesome work (if u want to ;) ).

Cheers
see ya all in 1 week

Hello!

I usually get to red maps in the first three or so days of league. It really just comes down to play time and map-drop luck (I no-life the first 3 days). It's really important to delve as much as possible, too. I try to do as many city zones as possible to get maps. Also, if you can push to at least 240 depth, you get easy access to i83 for spectre summoning.

As for gear, I've done up to tier 9 with a 4L chest and only 3 spectres (no vis mortis). You really should be using a vis mortis before reds. Once you get a 5L, you can pretty much cruise through reds.

Thanks! I love playing a summoner and so I keep working at improving it which each new league. Once I finalise the details, I'll share them here.

There is a bit more I want to add to this guide. The post-acts levelling section is incomplete. Also, I want to add some information about crafting. I'll add them before the new league starts, so check back later!

For solar guards, you go Anger or Haste ?

Definitely not.

Anger Aura also gives you fire damage to spells. A big part of spectre DPS comes from 'elemental equilibrium' on the passive tree:

Hey just an FYI, Anger-Generosity has been the classic answer for summoners who want to apply EE. There are a ton of summoner build guides that use this concept.

The PoE wiki link for Generosity explains this concept pretty well: https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Generosity_Support

The basic cases are these:
1) You and your direct spells/attacks won't be affected by AnyAura-Generosity.
2) Minions and Allies aren't affected by your direct damage or defense modifiers, so AnyAura-Generosity affects minions
3) Totems, Traps, Mines aren't affected by your defense modifiers, so DefenseAura-Generosity affects them. ARE affected by your direct damage modifiers so Dmg Aura-Generosity does NOT affect them.

So in your build you apply EE with Storm Brand (no flat spell dmg to yourself on any gear/jewels), which scales directly with your own damage modifiers. Storm Brand has no life/res stats of its own, so this is case 1.

If you don't trust just the concepts, you can see the real proof in-game. Cast Anger by itself --> your Storm Brand deals fire damage, not good. Now link Generosity to Anger --> Storm Brand only deals lightning damage again, no problems here.

For your PoB setup it actually shows that Anger-Gen is less DPS, but Anger is getting a buff in Synthesis so it could be a viable option then? Depends on how big the buff is (which will get scaled by Generosity). I do like Haste for personal QoL + VHaste + overall clearspeed on spectre summoner characters as well, so it'd have to be a significant buff.

Great build guide overall, I particularly like the "How this combo works" bits!

Edit1: If you do add the option in your build guide to run Anger-Gen, you should add a note that the jewel with minions deal +fire dmg becomes superfluous for the Stone Golem Combustion mechanic.
Edit2: You could even consider Haste AND Anger-Gen with mana reservation passives for a league start, since it might take a while to acquire Aspect of the Avian -- I like to take Leadership on the passive tree anyways because aura radius is laughably small otherwise, so the spectres won't even be in buff range half the time.

Not related to my last post, but in regards to:

IMPORTANT NOTE: 'raise spectre' and 'desecrate' both determine your spectre level. The limit is based on whichever gem is lower. For example, a level 20 'raise spectre' (spectre up to 100) + level 10 'desecrate' (spectre up to 50) = level 50 spectre.

Since you mentioned this, I'd like to add a little tip for getting higher lvl spectres while you're still leveling your Raise Spectre and Desecrate Gems.

Desecrate is usually the limiting factor on your spectre level (because of corpse level scaling, and potentially being unable to level the gem while leveling from lack of dexterity.

The trick is to use a +1 or +2 socketed any/spell/chaos gems item (e.g. +1 rare weap, +1 unset, lifesprig, reverb rod if you leveled with it) to temporarily boost your Desecrate gem level, allowing you to desecrate higher-level spectres. Once you've raised the spectres with Raise Spectre, you can switch back to your regular gear. Desecrate level is irrelevant in your usual trigger setup, so no problems there.

Examples to illustrate why this may be helpful, especially if you like to push to reds instead of slowly progressing as your character and gems level:
Lvl18 Gems
1) At lvl18, Raise Spectre can raise monsters up to lvl82
2) At lvl18, Desecrate can create corpses up to lvl77

Lvl19 Gems
1) At lvl19, Raise Spectre can (already) raise monsters up to lvl100
2) At lvl19, Desecrate can create corpses up to lvl81

As mentioned by consecotaleo, it's possible to go with Anger+Generosity. But in my gem setup, there's no spare gem slot for Generosity. Also, haste does give slightly more dps for Solar Guards (and adds to your movement speed).

That's some good points about Anger + Generosity. I actually forgot about supporting it with generosity, even though I've played support before. As you said, haste and anger end up having similar dps numbers, but anger needs generosity to stop anger applying to our self-cast damage. It feels like needing to spend a gem slot (anger + gen) when the same dps could be acheived with a single gem (haste) which also gives QoL in the form of increased movement speed and Vaal Haste.

I like your suggestion about using Haste AND Anger+Gen for the league start. I'll add it to the levelling guide (with credit).

I think I need to add a Q&A section. Would you mind if I added your post to it?

That's a good tip about desecrate and the +1; it would work well as an offhand weapon. I'll have to figure out the best place to fit this in. Maybe in the levelling guide.
