Fixing players that steal drops!
So the title says it all, my idea/suggestion was that we could get a command or a button in the party to press/pick if we want the magic/rare/legendary items to stick to the player without the timer. So basically if I drop a rare item and there is some player that just wants to steal it which would possible piss me off and others too, I would just go to the "party menu" (if leader), add the option to have the item dropped from the player "locked", meaning nobody else can pick it up except the player that dropped it. It would improve the party gameplay and less people would get annoyed by the so called "ninjas".
Also a similar suggestion would be a "roll for drop" technique, meaning the players roll for the rare/legendary item. Example: Jim rolls 90. ; David rolls 56. ; Jim wins the (item name). The "roll for drop" system is found in many games so it might be a nice way to fix the rage from player loot but I myself would go for the "locked item" system. P.S. I'd like to hear what you guys think and I'd like to know if you have a better idea. Last edited by WhiteBoy#6717 on Mar 2, 2013, 11:23:31 PM

Were there ever any reasonable arguments against increasing the (unreasonably short, tiny, pissy) timer? I'm sick of getting my loot stolen. Lost a GCP drop the other day, was pretty pissed. (Reasonable = things that aren't akin to "qq more scrub")

I can only agree with your proposal. I just finished Dread thicket a few minutes ago with a group of random players, and the unique item which dropped for me was stolen by another player. This is extremely frustrating and should be fixed very soon by the devs. I will never play again in a public party until the system is modified!!! I can't even understand why the loot system was designed like this. This is a major flaw imo.
A "roll for drop" system, as in WoW, would indeed be a good and fair option. Another possibility would be that each player gets its own personal drops, as in Diablo 3. Last edited by Kilgore78#6284 on Mar 2, 2013, 1:53:54 PM

" Increasing the timer will steal lead to players stealing items, it won't fix anything. Trust me, I should know. " Exactly what I mean, It can't be more annoying then someone stealing items from you! "roll for drop" system could be okay but it will still lead to angry players :P So the first system would be the best one. |

" Yes, and improving the servers and netcode will still lead to players getting desynchs and disconnects. Doesn't mean it won't make the problem less common, or make the system at least somewhat more reasonable, it just means it won't completely solve the problems. ...Remind me again why a partial solution which is a clear and obvious improvement isn't worth having? Guys,
The timer were never meant to reserve the item for you. If GGG's intention was to reserve items, then they would have made the items locked until you take it. The timers are random and ONLY function as to give ranged characters a chance to get some items too. I repeat, the timers do NOT reserve the item for you, they just give you the chance to get the item. If you want to further discuss loot mechanics, please go to this official thread from the devs. It has 700 pages already, so you can guess how many people are talking about this topic: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/392/page/694 |

While I perfectly understand the OPs position, I also feel like GGG devs are still giving us some space here. As far as I know, the loot used to be not named at all, and it was a true free for all click fest. It was the idea for the game, one of the core team play mechanics. Then GGG listened to the complaints of the majority and added a named timer to the potentially valuable drops, to try and find the middle grounds between the wishes for the game and players' wishes. So they actually already did something to ease the situation. I believe the current loot mechanic does not necessarily need a change; because simply over time as the servers and the game become more stable, with less lag, desyncs and DCs, players will be able to pick up their named items more reliably.
Life is tough... but it is tougher if you're stupid.

Nothing was stolen.
There are no ninjas. After the timer ends, it's FFA. But yes, go to the link Ace posted. |

It was, in retrospect, a mistake to label the drops with player's names. This should be removed.
Oh, and: in before lock. :-P |
