Ignorance is bliss ehh, well here hoping you don't have anything else "hacked" being the IT genius that you are

I doubt his account was hacked due to a keylogger. With the rash of cases lately, GGG most likely got popped. Probably what happened was some Chinese hackers compromised a server or database and stole account credentials. Then they used the credentials to log in to the game client and steal items from the Stash.

I got a similar message early this morning:
"
Your Path of Exile account has been locked because someone logged in from a location that you don't typically play from - "Yangzhou, Jiangsu, China".
I lost all my currency that was in my stash. The support email did not seem at all concerned with this, and said that things like this and any server instability problems I was having were part of the Beta experience.

I was logged in when I got this. It does not appear anything was missing. I did immediately change my password.

Sadly I don’t really have much worth stealing anyway.

Same here, I got this today when I logged out and checked my email.

To play again, you'll need to type or paste the following access code into the game client after logging in:

If you didn't just log in from a new location, then someone else has your account password! You should change it immediately which can be done on our website.

If you have any problems with this process, please contact customer support by replying to this email

I already changed my Email and password. I have no clue how they got my password since I only check this website and play offline games (except PoE) on this computer. I also do not use my old password anywhere or download anything except software/driver updates from Microsoft. My email wasn't used for anything except PoE. Lucky for me nothing was taken, otherwise I would have quit playing.

If you got the email, and you were already logged in, then the security measures protected you from them being able to take anything. That's a good thing. Your situation is different than most because your IP was already registered, so the hackers were not able to gain access directly.

The bad news is, they have your password, or at minimum your config file that allowed them to attempt to log in as you. Changing your password is a good thing, but make sure you do it from a machine that isn't compromised. I'd also consider re-imaging your machine if it were me.

Also, make double sure that your email password is not the same as your PoE password, but again, don't change it from your current possibly compromised machine.. If your machine IS in fact compromised, then changing your password now can just possibly give them your email password (or typing it as you log in).

Good luck.
If his machine was compromised, then all his other accounts would more than likely show unauthorized activity. This is/was on GGG's side of the cesspool/internet.
what is more annoying is the stupid policy of ggg
What many tard fanboys not understand this
to a security problem in the game DB I lost all my orb and my equip
not refund a user because it was hacked by a Chinese (for a GGG security problem)force that user to stop playing, because without equip and without orbs, which are the currency of the game, you can not do anything

I was lvl 76, I also wanted to do microstransactions
now because they will change the game
patience

p.s.
sorry for my bad english

This is what I suspect also, I received an email this morning saying my account had been logged in from "Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China" thankfully I roll with a 1 password per service routine so it shouldn't affect anything else if it is stolen credentials.

Annoying none the less, either way gonna spend the day seeing if I managed to download anything dodgy in the 2 weeks since I completely re installed windows :/
try using the program ihatekeyloggers, its a keystroke scrambler, ghetto encryption
