This game isn't worth playing in hardcore until loading screen deaths are addressed.

I don't see how this is even an issue. I have leveled tons of characters, tops are 81 and 79 with a dozen more in the 20-50 range. Never died in a loading screen. I also don't try to zone while there are monsters around me. I am pretty sure that the majority of loading screen deaths are happening due to this. Changing zones or going through a town portal when there are monsters around you. Sorry for your loss, but I still see this as a non-issue.
FYI no SSD here, old HDD and many long loading screens. I just don't zone with monsters attacking me.... Last edited by thepmrc#0256 on Mar 1, 2013, 2:15:16 PM

" This has been changed in a recent patch. Not what people are talking about. They're discussing monsters in the loading zone killing them before the zone has finished loading. It is an isolated issue it seems, but game breaking for players like me who occasionally suffer a 15-20 second load screen but find the game otherwise playable. Imo, there is no reason not to change the invul timer to infinite until a player action is made. In a game where alt+f4 macros are the norm, jumping zones can hardly be considered exploitable, and more importantly in no game should the player ever suffer a death without even being allowed to control their character. " Still surprised that I have never seen this happen if it is an actual issue. I have 20+ second loading screens quite often. Every zone I can think of has no monsters close enough to the entrance to even aggro. If this is really happening as you describe, sure its a problem, but never having experienced it in hundreds of hours of play with very long load times I don't really see it as an issue. |

Fair enough :) It used to be much more common than it is now, I used to be all but guaranteed a death upon entering certain zones when I first joined CB. The problem lessened over time, and indeed occurs very rarely now. But the fact that it can happen at all is still enough of an issue to me to suggest change.

" Emphasis mine. Obviously this issue isn't a problem *for you*. It's only a problem for those experiencing it. GGG doesn't look at your client and say to themselves "well as long as it's not happening to this guy then it's not happening to ANYONE ELSE." I otherwise have no idea what your post was supposed to mean. What is your point here? That if it doesn't happen to you then there's nothing wrong here? I'm genuinely curious why you believe that your experience is the standard by which any problems in the game are determined to be real. I don't understand what your point here is supposed to be or what your contribution to this thread is. I have long load times and lots of lag in groups so these reasons have kept me from even wanting to roll a HC character. Nothing like dying to lag/loading/connection performance issues. Hopefully GGG has some good ideas in the pipe to address this. I like some of the suggestions posted, but not the click-on-screen one. There might be a way that they can sync what the player is seeing vs. what the server is seeing and line up their invulnerability timers there. -- Tuune

" Listen Kid !!! Take your break and come back when the game is officially released. (Actually I hope you won´t come back) Then check it out and decide if you like it. @Rest of the world: Check out this great game. If you liked Diablo II you will like this game as well in my opinion. I have no idea if the complaints of the OP are justified because I am only a softie ;-) But the majority of posters seem to disagree. And by the way It´s free to play so check it out It will make you shout: Hooray ! Hooray ! Hooray ! |

" I obviously wasn't suggesting that 'if it doesn't happen to me it is not an issue'. I just find it odd that in hundreds of hours of play, with long loading screens, I have never seen this happen. It seems that if it were as serious an issue as it is purported to be it seems only logical that it would effect everyone. Last edited by thepmrc#0256 on Mar 1, 2013, 4:24:01 PM

It doesn't affect everyone, it's affecting people with slow HDDs and/or low amounts of slow RAM. Such as me.
Happened to me twice - one time I entered a friend's portal and got unusual loading time, second time during transition from Act 2 to 3 someone aggroed monsters to me (in a public party). It's not about possibility of such situations - it just boggles my mind why the invulnerability isn't infinite, until you use a skill or move your character. " Well, I can understand death in these situations. You went through a portal that was not safe and died. You had party members train you at the entrance to a zone and died. These are both very avoidable situations. I can understand the frustration involved in such a death, but these deaths are the fault of the player. If you are playing HC your don't party with randoms and you don't go through portals blind. These are pretty much standard rules for HC in any game. |

Fail to see how "took a friend's portal and got unusual load times" is the player's fault ;)
