Compare to an 8 Aura Guardian. 8% phys damage reduction, 1.6% life regen per second. Large Armor and ES bonus from Unwavering Faith. Now, there are some branches. You can either provide them with Frenzy, Endurance, and Power Charges with Harmony of Purpose. Or you can provide Atk, Cast, Movement speed with Prayer of Glory. Or you can provide stun immunity and block chance with Bastion of Hope.

its the most balanced support. you dont get the defense guardian gets, but you get more offensive support, which is what what you want nowadays anyway arguably. its already strictly better than necro support. if you need ES/armour badly for your group, then I guess guardian is still your choice.

and you get a mini mistress of sacrifice to boot.

If you want more offense support, Champion beats Scion Necro + Guardian combo.
Champion has 35% damage / 12% movespeed from Inspirational. They also have Taunt, but the key thing is their special ability after they taunt, causing the target to deal 10% less damage and cannot evade. Both of these are far superior to Scion support if we are talking in a support sense for offense.

Also, I wouldn't say it is strictly better than Necro Support. Necro has 20% to elemental resistance and 30% damage from Commander of Darkness. Scion doesn't get that. But then again, Necro support got nerfed a while ago, so it isn't saying much, since Commander of Darkness was nerfed.
