SSF players, how's Atlas progression going for you in Abyss league?
Mine's frustratingly slow. The extreme RNG needed to grind out maps for the recipe since they added a bunch of new maps is too much. My gems are almost up to 20/20 and I still haven't unlocked one T9 and few T10s. The worst part is that the problem's only going to get worse in red maps.

Sorry... but if 20/20 in less than a week is "frustratingly slow"... your threshold for frustration is quite low. You've progressed to what many consider "The End" of a character in under 6 days. That's not slow. That's too fast if anything.
For me? I'm working on completing the white maps, playing a tanky Ice Crash Jugger. I'm finding that rare rings are really hard to find this time, but that might just be me being an outlier. Maps are maps. Some of the new ones are fun, but aren't balanced to their tier. Pen boss was a bear for me... or a wolf. Just getting to where I'm getting "shaper" maps. Still don't quite understand what that means, other than cool holes in the ground. Can do blue Tier 5 maps, but am working on getting Tier 2 finished. Can't get the one past the dungeon to drop or be sold from Vana. It will happen. Not to worry. Still can't do merci-lab. Get through the areas fine to last stage Izzy and he drops me in a hit. Probably need more life or something. Last edited by Shagsbeard#3964 on Dec 14, 2017, 9:10:47 AM

Good lord, man, I don't think you could miss the point harder if you tried. My Atlas progression is slow. My early league no-lifing is working just fine.
Tip: gem levels are not tied to the Atlas. |

Although I did not get to maps yet in this league, I know the frustration of not finding any higher tier maps in SSF. I had the same issues in Legacy and Harbinger and in my opinion it's the only serious disadvantage of playing SSF mode.
I don't mind having to play with suboptimal stuff. Or to let my finds define my build. I actually really like that. But the high tier map RNG in SSF, oh my... it's just terrible. It gets a little bit better once you've completed your atlas for 75-80%. Then the chance of finding maps with a tier +1 get a little bit better. But in the end, it's a grind that will eventually result in getting stuck around T12/T13 maps. That's the moment I restart with a new (SSF) character. |

Haven't gotten to maps yet (played a whole like 35minutes total so far this league and it's all last night). But this is one of the reasons I don't do the SSF mode yet I play SSF. I always unlock my entire atlas, I never shape anything for maximum efficiency even though it's the meta. I like to run everything. And this means I usually end up buying quite a few mid tiers because progression drops are too low (meaning, the next in line). I can sustain just fine overall on maps, but I hate running the same map 10 times and not getting the next one. I hate having 20 T10+ yet running T6 because one T7 is not dropping.
And since all I have read since 3.1 is how much you have to pay attention to your Atlas and not run the same maps so you can get better Elder/Shaper maps, I know I will end up buying maps again. |

Going about as well as legacy for me.
Filling out the atlas sub red tier is all about zana luck. You'll always have a few stragglers that are going to be missing, just run the highest tier of maps you can, and hope zana provides you with the rest. Cant tell how red tier is going to be yet, in legacy the whole point was to run as little red maps as possible and just shape good yellow ones. I suspect it is going to be easier than you think, because there are much less. |

A big reason it's much harder to unlock the Atlas this league than last league is the increase in the number of maps of each tier. If there were six T10s before and there are nine now, you'll have to grind far more maps on average to get three to drop for the vendor upgrade (50% more on average).
The higher number of maps also makes it more likely variance will absolutely gut you on some maps, where you'll go for a stretch of over a hundred maps without having one of a particular base drop. I still don't think I've had three Phantasmagorias drop total, and it was one of the first of that tier I unlocked. GGG made it much harder to unlock the Atlas this time without adding anything to compensate for the extreme added grind. Unlocking the Atlas without trading was already in a bad place before. Now it truly sucks. |

Sorry for misinterpreting your post. I don't see this as much of an issue, I guess. I'm still stuck in T2, though I've played up to T5.
Zana could use a tuning to favor offering maps that aren't discovered yet... those are the ones we want to buy, typically. |
