Fight against bots

Actually im proud to say after a little investigation of my own a while back.. Its not a matter of time at all. In fact from what ive read its god damn near instant.

I checked those sites a couple years back when D3 was infested with Bots from demonbuddy (Much like it is again now) and it was kinda funny.. When you go to their forum for the D3 bot everyone is pretty much bragging what a joke warden is and how its basically a free for all with the occasional person posting about they got banned.. no ban wave in years ect.

POE bot forum on the other hand.. Well posts there were pretty much exactly the opposite. Everyone pretty much posting "How the fuck do you guys bot this game?" "I just got all my accounts banned almost instantly when i turned this thing on" And stuff like that with the occasional person posting to be able to bot in POE you pretty much need to go out of your way to avoid detection and even then... its a roll of the dice. Its possible but there is a lot more that goes into getting away with it than just buying the bot and turning it on thats for damn sure.

Not gonna lie i smiled a lot reading those forums. It was quite eye opening. Company like Blizzard cant seem to do shit with their bot problem other than try and take it to court but then again thats their own fault because when you only ban in waves every few years well... you get what you put in.

While apparently GGG not only have their game pretty damn tight they dont even have to do the court route or huge waves and its all pretty quiet as well. They do it apperenly on a per account basis and seem to have much better success according to those forums. Of course there are some very computer savy types who do bot POE and actually get away with it but, they are so few and far between it seems in comparison to D3 it almost doesn't matter. But the reality is NO company can completely stop ALL bots.. but from just what i read in those forums way back when im pretty confident GGG at least do what they can and keep it to a minimum. And this information comes straight from the assholes who try to get away with it.

Now RMT.... well that's a totally different story. And one i think GGG at some point is going to have to find more ways to address before it becomes a bigger problem than it already is. Unfortunately the only way D3 was able to stop this issue was disable trading which i dont think is an option for POE. I would also assume the few that do manage to get around detection for bots would also be some the same ones facilitating the RMT issues as well.

Just lol next you going to tell me there are no custom API tools, and all racers that have aura bots are all played by other players, not a loot bot... Sure I wonder why if you look a handfull of the top aura bots, the accounts are newer accounts with zero gear, zero tabs, zero mtx, and it only one character on the account..... but WTF do I know

Fanboys will be fanboys.

Not one time did i say people dont do some shady shit especially when it comes to racing but as far as botting goes thats just not one of the ways people go about it... People are running Aura based characters themselves.. they benefit just as well from running around giving their buffs to partys. You can even see people stream themselves running aura based characters. But think what you want bud.. Just like you can see people have dedicated traders who do all their trading for their team to keep currency rolling in to keep them in the competition. Again they gain from the spoils as well for their involvement. Those rewards not only sell for hundreds of exalts in standard...

As far as people running those throw away accounts.. Again has Zero to do with botting and alot more to do with using shit like Macros that are against the TOS.. And yes there's a reason for this.. Its not like the reward or the race isnt worth ALOT to alot of people.. And way risk your main account when your gonna push the boundries to do whatever it takes to win something worth alot.. When you can just make a throwaway account.. Just like the custom APIs people use to gain huge advantages in trading.. All that shit is old ass news.. But again botting has nothing to do with any of that.

Again like i said never said a word about people dont do shady shit in POE.. Botting is just one of those things they actually have some what of a hold on.. Never said there isnt other areas they could improve upon in fact there are quite a few things they need to find better ways to address. Every game company especially online games have their issues.. None are without flaws. But all the above mentioned has little to do with botting and a hell of alot more to do with RMT... But go ahead and believe what you want to believe.. But it wont change the fact you are wrong.. And none of this has anything to do with being a "Fanboy" and you would be quite aware of this as well if you done a little simple research for yourself. Hell you dont even have to do research really anymore.. if you have a Facebook and like POE on there the shit will smack you right in the face with ads telling a very clear story about whats going on...

If your gonna throw around accusations as to why people are doing certain things at least know what your even talking about or the real reasons behind such things. It helps to keep you from looking foolish..
There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation.
The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear.

Seriously? Man this is hilarious!

Yes, I thought so too (hilariously good idea). I never thought about it but what Shags said does make sense. GGG has to maintain a public position of banning botters but if they allow a bot to continue running and are able to set a flag on that account so that all the bot drops are the lowest of the white trash and only get wisdom scrolls at a fraction of the normal drop rates and nothing else then the bot can run 24/7 and the person using the bot gets nothing of value and just wastes electricity. That's actually a smart move if GGG looks at the account in question and sees no or very little high end gear in the stashes or on any build. I would assume most bots are run on other dummy mule accounts and any good gear is quickly traded off it so GGG would need to log who the bot account is trading to and if it's always the same account then they can put 2 and 2 together to know that this is the botter's real account and could ban it to make it as painful as possible. Making the risks for a botter not worth the rewards is GGG's best incentive to stop bots.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

I am sure many of you realize that botting is near on impossible to police in most games. For a start bot detection is not as simple as it sounds and for a company to ban an account requires very clear proof, since while every company has a EULA which allows it to ban for any reason, in practice they want to be entirely sure.

We have a few GGG staff in out guild, and I actually asked about bots some weeks ago. Now of course there is no way I was going to learn any inside info, but I was told that GGG does have methods to detect bot activity and does care about it.

If you guys recall the early weeks of Harbinger, there was rampant price fixing by individuals and guilds, and GGG apparently was not happy about it at all.

Naturally as a player like you guys, I am not going to be privy to what GGG does about such things, but I am entirely sure they care and take steps when they are able to keep this game as good as it can be for all of us.

Actually thinking about it... "price fixing" is more of a danger to us, given it can change our ability to enjoy the game to a very large degree :)

You can't possible know if someone is "playing bot" or not. You simply don't have access to enough information.

Of course you can, you see them in town when they bug out. I've seen them countless times, my record is spotting 3 guys in 30 minutes (that was in Essence league). Also, those dawgs we all exchange currencies with, they all run bots bro :D

That happens every single league and GGG decides every league to do exactly NOTHING about it. Don't look now, but there will be rampant price fixing by individuals and guilds in Abyss, and GGG will not be happy about it and they'll once again do nothing.

It's a free game, there are no risks for a botter. It's not like FBI will knock on his door and arrest him. IF they catch him, he'll open a new account, and go straight back to botting.

Since botting issue has persisted since day 1, I think it's fair to say that making the risks not worth the rewards strategy has failed miserably. Time for GGG to figure out a plan B.

It's unfortunate that you are the foolish one, but please keep making my point. Have a nice day and enjoy the world of delusion you live in.
