Innocence's damage is just way too brutal.

Innocence is just one of the too damn many "challenging if melee, joke if ranged" bosses. On my flame totem templar innocence did less damage to me than an abyss crack.
Sure ignoring the fact that attacks like his beam are easier to dodge the closer you are to him. But yeah gotta continue that 'everything is anti melee' argument.

his beam presents minimal danger...

hit run flask, win lol

bullet hell is the only dangerous move
Was just pointing out that its much easier to circle him the closer you are.
What? That's the easiest stage next to the beam thing.

You literally hide on the statue.

The one you can't see and didn't know spawned so it's too late.
Looks like the bullet hell increases when you get him to low life.

At the start of the fight I moved to the edge of the arena and successfully dodged the incoming projectiles one by one.
But then at around 25% he fired it again. This time it was 2 or 3 proj in a formation. Impossible to dodge.
I was standing behind a statue and still one of them hit me for 3/4 of my HP.

As stated in previous post the mechanics are interesting. He's a boss fight many people enjoy, myself included.
But the damage. The way you get crushed for every mistake... That's not act 5 out of 10. Come on. There are tier 1 map bosses who hit less hard.
His damage needs a Nerf in the story.
Maps can have him as-is.

Statues are not always around when he launches his "Big Ball of Death."

Also, what JK is saying is true; sometimes when Innocence starts to spam his various attacks, there is not enough space between them to dodge even if you run to the opposite end of the platform from where he's dropping his ball of sparklies; I had to run up to town a couple of times for that reason in one fight with him where I had a low damage character and he was at low hit points.

The "no escape" scenario isn't common, in my experience. But, it doesn't need to be common in a game with a hardcore mode.

I've had no issues surviving against Innocence for a while and he's a particularly fun fight for me, at this point. But, I get why some find him to be a bit much; his damage is waaayyyyy higher than mobs around him for reasons that seem mysterious and arbitrary.
Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?
As a melee, I have to agree.

Every time you hear "I'm..." you have to run out of range (except for the beam, that is nice for melee chars). Then you have to run back into range to do damage. But if you play SSF and don't have much runspeed yet, you're lucky to get one or two shots in before he speaks up again. And even at range, sometimes the bullet hell is unavoidable.

Took me about 10 minutes and about 2 dozen deaths, the most frustrating experience I've had in POE (since closed beta!). Decided to skip SSF and trade for better gear afterwards.

PS: Previously did him with ranged chars, had no difficulties...
May your maps be bountiful, exile
I can only refer to my earlier post. It's hard, but possible to dodge the bullets manually, and actually you should have enough HP to survive one or two hits at that point. If you don't, it's your build that fails (unless of course you're fully able to dodge everything, but then you wouldn't complain).

I haven't played a melee build after 3.0 yet, but either you deal enough damage to not worry about his phases, or you get tanky enough to survive them. I don't see why a glass cannon build wouldn't have enough dps to do that or why you wouldn't be tanky enough if you don't. I mean, what do you get other than survivability if you don't play a glass cannon?

Not to mention: Yes, I played barrage on one of my characters which is a "ranged" skill. I did always go into melee range to dodge the beam and because it's easier to not miss though. So again, I don't see a problem with melee in particular. Generally I got killed by statues more often than the mechanics (because you know, he's easy to dodge, even in melee range, but if you keep standing still without moving far, you'll get hit eventually; but that's a matter of skill).

Also, I've had problems with the mobs in act 5 on several of my characters. By now, Innocence has become a cakewalk compared to those. And again, I find Kitava's add phases to be much harder. I've probably needed 5-10 times as many deaths for those as for Innocence.
i quote my self from another Innocence rant, i join the movement

"Yeah well... i had to start to play as HC cos my friends do HC and as oldschool D2&D3 and WoW player the game seemed fun and great. Then i met Innocence... Like i sayd, i have experience of games and fights like these, i know how to avoid things and not stand in fire yet still, my first character just suddenly died and my friend who was with me at the fight also sayd that he has no idea what killed me, no visual effects or voicelines were presented. I died 0,2sec before the boss went down... Well... Back to making a new character.

I was bit pissed about what happened with innocence so my next char was scion tank with ALL points in defence and life. i had 0 damage skills cos i just warcry herds and my friend does the damage.

Well, we did bit overleveling and i was standing with all res capped (alot over actually) and with 70% phys dam reduce and cant remember the exact HP, i belive it was `bout 2000. Every boss and mob gang went well, id say i felt like bit too overpowered as tanking cos my hp didnt move at all.

Yeah you all know it by now... We did innocence with 2 friends, the fight went well, avoided stuff and had to use flask once, then we went to phase 2, all well, except suddenly i just die... from full HP with lots of buffs on me, im just dead, i had no way to use potions or anything cos again non of my friends noticed anything that just can kill me 1 shot, no lightning buds or anything on my feet or anything...

Game seems fun, and i do like HC but this is just BS, no monster before that fight could take my hp down eaven by 5% cos i had so mad overlevels and overskilled in defence. Then just to get oneshotted by... by... well we dont know by what... All i know im watching the resurect button.

I did support this game by using about 20$ and i do not regret it, but things like this really ruins the HC experience. Im the first one to say the game was too easy untill that fight but really... Some adjustments really needed there"
