How good is Brass Dome?
I keep wanting to use this armor, but I can't figure out how to make it "worth it."
Biggest problem is, I have no idea how useful the 'take no damage from crits' mod really is. Crits are very rippy, of course, but rippy enough to justify not using a Belly instead? I wish there was some kind of combat log so I could know exactly how often I get crit and how much damage it does. I know the 5.5K armor is very good. Armor in general is underrated, but again, is it worth it? Not sure. So, has anyone used this armor? If so, how good would you say it is? And what kind of build would make best use of it? Garbage.
Just as of an example, I played an abyssus build with it once, scaled armor up to 80k during flask effect, couldn't take a single spin attack from the phoenix, so wasn't even enough to offset the physdmg taken mod from it, also had arctic armor and taste of hate up. Armor is not underrated, if anything, then it is overrated by not so experienced people. If you want to mitigate crits, use belt of the deceiver, indomitable node and enfeeble, job done, fun fact is, if you want to stack reckless defense, then with this method you will take less dmg from crits, than regular hits most the time (nemesis critaura and critmod maps are the only dangerous things), unless critmultiplier works in a different way, than I think, but as it is base critmult is 130% for monsters and that gets reduced to 80 by the belt and the node alone so by this logic it should be a less multiplier, while brass dome would fix it to 100%. Only content where it might be useful is hall of grandmasters, because a lot of dudes there have crit builds with 4-500% multi. Last edited by krenderke#3861 on Oct 10, 2017, 5:01:32 AM

How about for general mapping, though? I mean, I know no amount of armor can mitigate the endgame bosses. As for armor being underrated/overrated, I guess it depends on the context. A granite of iron skin on a summoner with zero armor makes a huge difference, but yeah, stacking it to 80k isn't going to do much against guardians that hit hard enough to flat out penetrate most of it.
That's why I'm trying to figure out what the Brass Dome is most suited for. Obviously it's not suited for gaurdians/shaper, but maybe there's some other way to make it work, to make the best use of it's strengths. I mean, there has to be a reason it's 200c on hardcore. I guess it would be great on an uber lab farmer or something, but there has to be more to it... |

Krenderke your calculation is wrong. You take 30% reduced Extra Damage from Critical Strikes modifier on Belt of the Deceiver is a modifier that reduce percentage of damage over 100% that an enemy inflicts with a critical strike on the character.
Since the default multiplier for monsters is 130%, for most monsters 30% reduction would reduce the multiplier by 9% (30% of 30). To the OP question. Brass dome is underrated. It becomes more effective with big crits. BotD + indomitable + enfeeble is an option but you need to take in calculation curse resistance on bosses (60% less effective vs normal boss, 80% less effective vs guardians/shaper). Btw are you sure Phoenix´s spin attack is pure physical, I doubt about it (fire explosion is pure fire) High armour rating is a nice bonus. It´s rather effective vs many small hits but you can mix it up with an extra physical mitigation (charges, taste of hate, basalt ..). Last edited by Rakiii#5559 on Oct 10, 2017, 6:29:34 AM

" Sounds like you died to Elemental damage tbh. Fun fact: Taste of Hate makes all that Armour and the mass of Endurance Charges entirely useless against 20% of all Damage you're taking. Good job. Crit Mult has a low-end cap of 100% of course. |

" Phys mitigation order: conversion into armor into end charges into fortify, not sure where arctic armor applies tho. Conversion makes armor more effective. Taste of hate, non legacy makes you take 20% dmg as cold to 81% cold resist --->20*(1-0.81)=3.8 So 16.2% phys mitigation from the flask, you take barely any super high cold dmg from it. Then you only take 80% of the physdmg to armor, which means it doesnt get crushed as hard. Physarmor=armor/(armor+10*dmg) So in case you have a taste of hate up its only 8x the dmg in the formula. Example: 50k armor 10k hit. 2k cold dmg -> reduced to 380 cold dmg u actually take. 8k phys dmg -> 38.46% reduction-> 4923 physdmg u actually take Total of 5303 dmg taken. Opposed with 50k armor and no toh 10k phys dmg ->33.33% reduction ->6666 physdmg taken which is the total dmg you take In the end it is 25.7% more dmg taken without toh or 20.5% less dmg taken with toh, depending on which one is used as the base for the percentage calculation, which for I'm not sure if there is a professional way to decide which one should be the base, bjt guess 25.7% more dmg taken without toh makes my argument look better for my argument. As for the critmulti, thanks both of you, I almost made a build, that would have been a waste of time. The spin should be pure phys according to the wiki. Default Attack Deals 100% of Damage. Whirling Charge Deals 80% of Damage. 80% more Attack Speed. Last edited by krenderke#3861 on Oct 10, 2017, 7:35:05 AM

You're assuming enemies hit for 10k Physical (I sincerely doubt the Phoenix can), and are not taking in account any other sources of %PDR. I am certain I've already told you before that Armour and ECharges are additive, what with both being %PDR. The Soul of Steel passive is the best Armour passive for a reason, granting another 4% PDR.
The Guardian of the Phoenix has the "Extra Fire Damage" modifier >.> |

But you just said, that taste of hate makes me take way more dmg in total, which is not true that is why I did that little math for you with whatever numbers.
And well the map probably had mods on it, don't remember what tho, but I have never seen 6k life be shredded that fast before. Last edited by krenderke#3861 on Oct 10, 2017, 7:54:35 AM

" 1. No, I didn't. I said Taste of Hate makes all that %PDR useless against 20% of Damage Taken. Seems pretty terrible if %PDR is the entire goal of your build. 2. Why use "whatever numbers" when we have actual numbers to use? You yourself said 80k Armour, so why does the example use 50k? Why ignore an entire defensive layer that is frankly crucial to making Armour really good? Why does the example not use any additional %PDR? Taste of Hate is an advantage if your %PDR ends up below 81%. The closer you get to that 81%, the less it does for you. 80k Armour and ECharges, hopefully Soul of Steel as well, makes Taste of Hate very marginal against the very highest pure-Phys hits. Against anything that isn't a must-dodge move, it's actively detrimental because you're probably over 80% PDR without it. |

I think the armor is underestimated.
"Take no Extra Damage from Critical Strikes" apllied to all damage types. also elemental. I played with that armor and 5400 life in pre 3.0 and no monster can onehit me with a decent armor/resis and additional fortify and arctic armor. I plan to play again with that armor in 3.0 and with more then 6k life. |
