D3 hard to swallow facts

I am in Diablo 3 beta. These two games seem very different in there overall goal. I haven't played PoE yet so I'm not sure. I am really hoping to get a beta key. I might actually prefer PoE over D3.

This should go some way to helping things.

I was gonna post this link.
Personally, I´ve been lowering my expectations for D3 with every new info that comes out. It´s just disappointment over disappointment.

Been telling all my friends about PoE already, nobody barely took an interest. Hopefully I´ll prove them wrong once I get to show them the gameplay, the skill tree and all the great features this game has. I don´t see how old school D2 players will ditch this game for D3 once they´ve played both (unless D3 surprises us, it´s Blizz afterall).
Yeah, they had to do some damage control after that.
Can't wait to play D3 though.

Their internal team knows that they are producing a game that is vastly inferior to the other two. They know that they have adulterated the core of the Diablo series...

At least their comments (both Bash and Wilson) show that they are still semi-rational people who don't realize what they've done.

What I don't understand is why they wouldn't just stoke the fire and increase the hype to epic levels like they did with Skyrim. Even though Skyrim fell FAAAAAR short it still raked in a ridiculous amount of money due to the hype alone.

Why do you think D3 will be inferior?
Can you post a link abot what Bash and Wilson said?
When I watch this video, I only want to play the damn thing.

in the previously posted link:

“On a more serious note, I too worry that we won't be able to meet the expectations people have built up for themselves,” wrote community manager Bashiok. “Part of my job is managing people's expectations, so... eh... stop it. Stop thinking about how awesome this game could be. Just imagine it's a new M. Night Shyamalan movie. Sure Sixth Sense was amazing and Unbreakable had it's moments, but this right here is the sequel to The Village ... or The Happening ... or Signs ... or any of the movies besides the two I first mentioned. So just like, lower those expectations, but still definitely buy the game please, and everything will be just fine. K?”

Wilson's followup attempted to fix that situation, a discussion of which can be found at http://vr-zone.com/articles/blizzard-backtracks-on-diablo-iii-expectation-fiasco/15020.html

“We want you to have high expectations for Diablo III and all Blizzard games,” said Wilson. “That’s what pushes us to try to make the best gaming experiences we possibly can. … If Diablo III wasn’t a worthy next installment in the Diablo series, we wouldn’t release it. That’s the way we do it. That’s the way we’ve always done it.”

Where they comment that:

"Worthy is one thing. Ground-breaking and better than the previous two is a whole different game altogether. If Blizzard staff are not so sure, then it's hard to expect gamers to be either."

My personal feeling is that the D3 team knows that they are producing an inferior game in comparison to the ground-breaking games that D1 and 2 were. Note that I'm not saying it will be a bad game... it'll be a good game, but I don't think they have progressed the genre as much as they should have given their track record, and their team knows it. Whether or not people want to play the game is immaterial really. Every fan of ARPG's wants to at least try out the game...

ok, I thought I missed something.
If the D3 team knows internally they're doing a poor job, don't you think they would do something about it?
It's Blizzard, one more "soon" for the joke, they could push again the deadline if they wanted.

They made some unpopular choices with the runes, but the latest posts from Bashiok make sense and that's what I was trying to say in all those no-respec threads ^^;

People want some kind of punishment in the character development, Blizzard don't want that. I guess it's more player for PoE then.

But by doing that, it seems they are pretty sure their gameplay is "fun" enough to not overburden the player with some choice he won't be able to undo. That's what's important for me, having fun with the game. If the gameplay is challenging on its own, it's good for me. I don't need some gimmick to diminish noobs and make them feel worse.

As for PvP, I think it will be a lot better because it will be based on player skills, and less about grind (except for gears).

Completely agree with post.
A lot of what I consider inferior and what I think they innately know to be inferior, is that the game has simplified things that didn't need to be... they've chosen to do so in order to streamline the game for a more general audience to make more money. Two of the biggest for me personally is inventory and item management as well as resource management. The previous Diablos innovated on these, but fell short in many ways... D3 isn't attempting to iterate on it... they instead chose to amputate it entirely.

They know they are building upon their current tech. research base, which is WOW. They know they are importing aspects from there and not innovating on the original Diablo formula.

The problem is that these aspects are permanent and core to the game, and at this point they cannot change it or even would want to change it.

As for PvP, it'll more than likely be garbage... Wilson in interviews has more or less expressed that it will be pretty bad as they are not focusing on or fully supporting PvP, at all.

What's the problem with inventory and ite mmanagement?

About resource management, are you talking about mana?
They tried new stuff instead of keeping the classic mana, I think it's good.

yep I read that. It's a little bit sad they don't want to focus on it, they don't want to balance skill around it. They think the PvP players will be a small group compared to the rest (which may be true).

We'll see what's happening about that in the future...
But PvP around items is a problem, that's why Guild Wars tried a different way to do it.

About the WoW stuff, I can't comment on that, I never really played WoW.
