D3 hard to swallow facts

All the predictions here for D3 are conservative.

D3 will sell more than 5 million at the first month. And PoE will never, ever, have more active members than D3.

This is not a fact, this is speculation. Please look up the definition of what a fact is. It could become fact in the future but until it happens it’s speculation, and irrelevant all the same. The cost to develop PoE is a small fraction of what it costs to create D3 so it doesn’t have to come anywhere near the number of players D3 will have for it to be considered a success.

D3 will have at least 2 expansions priced around $40-$50. Will make a lot of money with the real money auction house fees and will get from each D3 player an average of $90 on the course of 10 years ( from the game, expansion and money transactions)

Once again, this is speculation, not a fact.

In 5 years time D3 will have reached 30million different players at least.

Yep, once again this is speculation.

D3 will have more than 3m sale at first day (including pre-orders, brick stores and digital version).

More speculation on your part. It’s very likely to happen, but at the same time there are going to be a LOT of disappointed players as well once they learn that you can’t even use a weapon’s basic attack anymore. Yep, in patch 13 Blizzard actually removed your ability to swing your axe, fire your bow, etc if it’s not associated with a special attack. I truly hope they fix this.

Now , I do think the developers of PoE are better game designers, know more what the community wants, and deserves more than D3. But facts are facts... D3 will be a juggernaut simply by brand name and marketing.

Yes, facts are facts. Unfortunately you have yet to present a fact, just your opinion and speculation. D3 will almost assuredly dominate the marketing campaign as you have speculated (again, not a fact. Facts are things that have already happened. If you would have said Blizzard is a juggernaut then that would have been an example of a fact based on their past success and current finacial standings), but that doesn’t have to hurt PoE. D3 will introduce a large number of gamers to the hack and slash genre that are new to it. While there will be the hardcore fans that will play D3 and only D3 for years to come, most gamers buy/play more than one game a year and if they like D3, they are likely to look for similar titles to see what they are like. Smart marketing by GGG will help them bring in the gamers that don’t just sit on 1 game for years and years.

I do prefer PoE than D3. What we as fans of PoE must do is do our part and spread the world about PoE as soon as it goes open beta. Spread trought forum, youtube, live streams, forum boards. And put our love for this game to work, otherwise this game has no chance of sucess.
Make your part!

Agreed, though we as supporters of the game need to be smart about it. Anti D3 campaigns will likely alienate people who like it, going with a more modest approach of “if you liked D3, check this out” approach would be far more effective. Most people don’t respond well to someone attacking something they like. I mean, just reading some of obnoxious, anti PoE crap flybutterfly vomits up almost wants me to not get D3, and I’ve been waiting for it for over 10 years now.

And is futile to compare the sucess of this game with D3, because even if we all did our part and spread the word that PoE is better than D3 , we would still fall short of impossible expectations.

Agreed, so why did you start off this post directly comparing them several times?

ropumar wrote:

But remember the D3 sucess will not mean the demise of PoE, because there still much room on the Online ARPG scene, player from D3 will look for new things and a free game like PoE will atract many new players because is free.

Agreed. I just don’t understand why you started this topic off all doom and gloom and then worked your way up to some decent logic. You should have just started with this stuff, removed 'facts' from your title and called it 'my thoughts and opinions'.

The only thing that matters is that PoE will be considered by some (perhaps you) way better than D3.

If you are one of those, relax and enjoy.

I would argue that all that matters is that you play the game(s) you enjoy. You can play both D3 and PoE you know, I sure plan on it.

Well put, it's very hard for a new company to make a game and get publicity.

38Studio's and Big Huge Games didn't seem to have this problem with Kingdom's of Amalur: Reckoning. :)

That's because it was made by a baseball player with his life savings and an enormous loan from the state of Rhode Island.

He said "it's very hard for a NEW company" not "it's very hard for a company with no funding".

There is a difference. ;)

Numbers, numbers, numbers. Sales numbers rarely reflect game quality in today's vidya industry.

I dont know much about either of these games (just registered to this forum some minutes ago) even though i played alot of D2, im just waiting for D3 instead of watching all the trailers and stuff and "know" the game before its even out -_-

But i sure know, that many things may still be changed, even if the game is about to be realesed. so dont blame D3 yet, neither count out this game (wich looks really great and every RPG fan should give it a try AT LEAST)
So if you think about blizzard and their games, how do you think they got that famous? Maybe they wont hear all the people, but they always try to make games fair on an competetive level.
iv played diablo 3 did not enjoy it im really thinking this game will be nicer.
I have been following the D3 forums for a couple years now and I must say that it is kinda incestuous over there. There is so much drama and infighting that it has an overall effect of turning me off. It feels like a never ending season of Lost.

I believe the Real Money Auction House is the source. People will not admit it because they don't want to sound cheap/poor/needy/greedy, but I believe players are seriously hoping to make $100+ a month as extra income, and this has made it all rather sickening.

Beta players are up in arms about the new skill/rune system because it allows any max level player to design any character build on the fly by swapping out skills, and this (I really believe) has lead to players thinking, "Dang it, I want to make a unique item farming machine build which will earn me more money than other players!"

What this all means is that the game will not be as fun because there will be an Aura of Desperation debuff in the air which will make Pick Up Groups very business like with a general vibe of "Hey knuckle head, keep up and rush so we can try and get paid."
