Why POE is a broken game - Too many bad things in 3.0

This is a conclusion after a bit of testing the new update and the new challenge league.
This is my oppinion and the oppinion of many other players.
I do not speak for them but i take in count what they and i noticed in this new update 3.0


1. The "Endgame"- Trivialised game-content:

I think, that the most annoying part in this game is the so-called endgame. i.e: Shaperfarm / Uberatzirifarm.
I would not call the guardians T16 maps "endgame" because they are too easy. Same goes for Shaper and Uberatziri.
Endgame content is getting trivialised by 5 OP-Builds while 96% of all other gems, items, builds, characters, ascendancies suck. I would call this a poor interaction of game-mechanics.

To show how trivial endgame content is here is the gear i defeated Shaper with: :smirk:
Especially Biscos Collar is making it riddiculous because it doesnt give me anything on my golems (it doesnt count for golemscull) - This shows that there is absolutely no need for expensive mirrored gear in this game!


I just rush through most of the stuff. - Although running the sets by yourself is worthless.

For what am i doing this? The drops are so bad, even with rarity/quantiy find. Absolutely unrewarding! The sets cost stupid high amount of currency and bossdrops have literally 0 value.

You`re better of selling a Shaperset for 1.25ex instead of running it by yourself for dropping 1alch-boots. = broken game, broken market, broken values.

It makes me feel that i don`t wanna go on with this. 1-Alch boots drop reward for farming 4x T16 map guardians, collecting the pieces for the set and so on? Nope...

2. The new challenge league „Harbinger“:

First of all i absolutely understand the shitstorm on reddit. I wonder how the developers could invent such a terrible league. Don´t they test their own stuff or did the X-Box Release take the most attention of them? (Like Project-PT promised)

For me this is the most aweful, terrible league i´ve ever played. It feels like standard.
Every time when i encounter such a harbinger pack i think: „Oh, no... Again such trash shards for trash orbs... Yawn...“ I don`t like the mechanics and im unhappy with it.

Legacy League was ok, although the abusement of leaguestones and bugs could let players make hundreds of exalts easily.

It is not that i find it hard to fight the Harbingers. For me it`s just trash which i erase quickly but prevents me from going on with my maprush fast because there spawn proximity shield mobs and such bad things. I`m speaking of the whole mechanic of the Harbingers. I hate it.

My inventory is full too soon. Way faster than without this stupid shards. So that means i`m in a expensive map and i can`t pick up the good items because my inventory is full of garbage shards? Terrible nonsense to me.

Especially the engineer orbs, for what??

From time to time i sell the sextants and the other crap to make space to stash even more trash-orbs until someone comes with the supermegaideawhattodowiththisgarbingerorbsorifinditoutmyself!

3. The 3.0 Update „Fall of Oriath“:

I don`t like it at all. Kitava bossfight sucks and the droprate there is very low.

I do not like the map pack density nerf. A map is a map that`s why it`s a map. And a T11 Strand map has less density than a T10 Terrace map? Impossibru....

The big nerf of Energy Shield? Sucks! I`m not an ES-Fetishist but i do understand people who quit the game because of this trash-nerf.

It´s a destruction of builds = Destruction of fun. I`m strongly against such monsternerfs.

"Hey bro, you got a good build which you farmed a year for and brought it to perfection. You are offering a fun build that is cheap, for everyone to play and efficient. Means: WE GOTTA NUKE IT! There goes your build into to the Nerf-Box. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust..."

The so-called „new acts“ are not really new. It`s mostly repolished old game design. Especially most of the „new acts“ are fit into the same old layouts like it was before in act 1-4. I find this very uncreative and idealess.

I like some artwork of the new bosses. I do not like the mechanics!
But mostly one rushes through the content without carrying for such things.

The Pantheon is utter garbage for me. I just did the challenge for upgrading the souls, else i would not even take a look at it. Most Pantheon skills are useless.

4. The Uberlab - Izaro:

I never liked the lab and everything that has to do with it.
I strongly dislike the trials and i don´t like to run 1 Izaro instance for 45 minutes full-key-run with golden-key instances that are so huge that it refreshes the old golden-door instance which i was in before. It´s boring me off so much that i get depressions from running lab. I avoid it at all costs. Mostly i start the labs from normal-cruel-merciless-uber when im above level 80 because i just don´t want to go in there. I find it so superlame. Sorry, but i really dislike the lab :(

The lab layouts are way too huge to run through. It costs me too much of my lifetime and i wonder who has time for running this 100x ?

I don´t find it hard to success in the lab. Izaro is for me also trivial game content.
The disconnects and offering losses suck tho. Disconnect at bossfight, Izaro-kill doesnt count for challenge because servers are crappy... The list of aweful experiences in the lab and the trials is long. And this are the things that make the lab hard for me. haha!

Honestly why is it not other way round when u kill everything in the lab you get max. keys and not when you let it alive? AOE-Builds and summoners are screwed because they get less keys than single-target builds. Again bad interaction of game-mechanics.

5. The currency market, the prices and the values:

Currency flipping goes like this: Buy 28 fusing for 10chaos. Sell 26 fusing for 10 chaos.

Most prices in the POE market are non-reasonable fantasy-prices.

See how it goes:
Picture 1 shows you the sell-price. Picture 2 shows you the buy-price. That`s how it goes in this game... Riddiculous.

A little tip: How to deal with flippers? Up an expensive item for cheap and ignore all the instant spam! ;)

6. Poor interaction of game-mechanics:

For example the skill culling strike:
Do you see a magicfinder which needs to use a culling skill (10% on hp cull) for group play to let his magicfind apply to the group together with a slayer (20% on hp cull) in one party? No, you probably don`t see them together in a group :)
So people can`t play together because game functions don`t interact well? Also big nonsense to me.

I´ve read some posts from players who complain about getting one-shot without graphic effects from random mobs but can fight the strongest bosses without dying. No comment...

Or the Catarina minion getting stuck every corner.

The impossibility to keep summoned spectres and so on.

7. Terrible servers / game-stability:

Especially on weekends the servers are really, really bad. What follows are disconnects, map-losses, set-losses. I don´t understand why they scare players off especially at the weekends when the most people want to play...

My hype for 3.0 was gone after the 5th servercrash in a row on patchday... Poe 3.0 Hype! = I went to bed.

8. The Essences:

I found 2 Remnants of Corruption in 1 month. In words "two"!
Means i have to stick to the poor tradesystem to buy my remnants to corrupt the essences for challenge which really bores me to death...

9. The new prophecy system:

Aweful! I am level 92 (no need to level up further - game too easy.) and most of my prophecies send me back to act 2 – act 3 normal. What am i supposed to do there in this low level areas?
Before the nerf of the prophecies i could complete those in „merciless“ act 1-4 and i had higher level areas for this. Now it`s just aweful that my other prophecies proc too in this low level areas so that i waste 2-3x more silver coins than before. Is this supposed to be like that?

Also why is my prophecy proccing and someone else is getting it? This is broken!

10. The Loot:
The loot-system is horribly broken and unrewarding.

A little example:
The person with the highest possible magic find gear finds 1 exalt orb in 1 week of hardcore-farming.
The other guy with 0 rarity/quantity finds 3 exalts in one day + a perfectly rolled tier 1 unique on the same day + a week before a mirror of kalandra... This is broken, just broken, nothing else.
This can´t be right. It just can`t. It´s too unreal.

Other example:

Beachhead map, THE Harbinger map! In 6 runs i dropped less good shards there than in a basic act 10 world area rush-through. How? How does this even fit to the game properties when i drop worse in a „endgame map“ than in a low level world area? This is a broken lootsystem imo.

Not to speak of the 99% trash items which aren`t even worth to pick up but make a supersound and look like they would be mega-expensive aka. the ONE-ALCH-UNIQUE-ITEMS...

11. The tradesystem:

Absolutely super-terrible. A big timewaste and disgusting to use.
It`s so very annoying to spam through 30 traders and all are afk or "not online". This is big nonsense to me.
Such a bad stone-age-tradesystem in 2017? Come on...
I still don`t understand why there is no auction-house which would save at least 20% of everyones game-time.

I`m too bored to do the most trades. It just annoys me to click on the name, invite to the party, tell them to go to my hideout, click on the name again, open the tradewindow, put stuff in, click accept and vice-versa. It´s just too annoying to trade in this game...

Stressful people who spam me more than two times for an item will get instantly ignored. Players are ignoring each other for trading in the wrong channel. Pfffff.... That`s how bad this tradesystem really is.

12. Unattractive Party-Play:

A big minuspoint for me is the party-play in this game. Everything is full of unnecessarily overdriven skilleffects. The whole screen is full of blasts and bombs and skills and everything is exploding and firing in novas so i get spastism from watching it too long. Mostly i play in 2-3 players parties because a 6-player group is too annoying for my eyes. And my cpu melts really well, yes...

13. Lack of transparency

How much damage did i deal to the boss?
What kind of damage did the boss do?
What skill the boss use?
Why does my Concentrated Effect gem doesn´t show up in the damage tooltip?
Does Biscos Collar Gold Amulet apply to my golems? Does it apply to my caustic arrow cloud?
Why is there no damage feed like in other games?
Why are major bugs not fixed immediately - players abuse bugs for making hundreds of exalts...

0 answer about such things from GGG. The support doesnt answer.
There is no page to read about such questions. Yes, there is a wiki which is great but such things arent mentioned there. :(
Barely you will find an answer. Maybe you find a discussion on reddit about similar things but only if you`re lucky...


Conclusion:

I find that the game is in a terrible state right now. The Harbinger League made it even worse and the recent changes brought to the Harbinger League are not enough. Thx GGG tho for carrying for the problems of their players and bringing new content to the game!

My conclusion is that i will quit POE for the next couple of months until there is a better league because im stuck in the "endgame" with lame bosses and poor loot even though i gave my best. I don`t want to run maps anymore, they don`t give me anything. Neither do the endgame bosses.

Yeah, game needs to be harder again. Gone are the times when it could be difficult to kill a regen rare, where you couldn't "maprush", where you actually had to approach packs of enemies carefully.
Problem is, there are mechanics that trivialize 99% of the content, yet GGG still shys away from nerfing them into the fucking ground.
The game has simply become way too fast for there to be any challenge. Unless you impose some limitators on yourself.

Nah, that's not the issue here. It doesn't matter how hard the Shaper is when you are AFK dead on the floor and your golems are immune.

One broken mechanic that trivializes any elemental boss (such as the Shaper or Uber Atziri) just needs to be removed from the game to fix this type of 'the game is too easy' problem.

Yes, i know. But same goes for the other Op-Builds. Frostblades etc. The builds which make gamecontent look trivial are still there, no matter if they make golems mortal again or let them die when the owner does.

The difference from the mega DPS builds is that they require some investment and skill. It's intended that there is a point where you just outgear the content. When that point is too easy to reach, GGG nerfs things.

But the immortal golems are a totally different thing. It's simply broken. It doesn't require any skill at all and a very small investment to buy a few jewels. In the old times GGG would nerf something like this instantly, they've nerfed far less cheesy stuff in a knee-jerk reaction style in the past.

But it looks like GGG bit more than they can chew these days, with all the big releases happening at the same time. They are too busy to nerf anything. There are game breaking crash bugs that are still not fixed 1 month into 3.0, forget about cheesy boss trivializing mechanics.

As for the Garbinger stuff, that was to be expected. A big expansion always comes along with a weak league, and the bigger is the main release the shittier is the league mechanic. It's just a matter of resource management. Just wish it wasn't so damn buggy.

Regards trading: I level up character to be equal with items requirements, than I go to poe.trade and during 1-2 days I farm on poe.trade cca 30ex (or what is needed), after buying gear and going to play to the endgame. In that way I am enjoying trading and game itself. Otherwise its pain to play most of gems I gave a try, some are lost, other gems/builds have to be min/maxed, while few (max 5?) was fairly ok without items.

I gave a try to level up 3rd character, but disconnections, sound dropping, etc. are so annoying, that I gave up.

From time AoE nerf and less mobs, this game lost its spirit. Now, when there is HP meta mainly, gearing up character is boring and characters and tree overall are uninteresting in compare pre 2.6 patch + micromanagement and rolling maps is retarded. Builds in standards: I am not even giving a try to gather all points back and play half an hour just for fun from time to time..

Those are reason I am playing less and less and probably we will met in the beginning of next league, to quite again after few days.

I agree with the OP

I find it funny people bash him because he's using golems ''must be using golem, ofc the game is too easy''. He may be using golems but except the ''content is too easy'' he's not wrong about the rest of the stuff. If someone with tons and tons of IIQ/IIR does not find the game rewarding, what can the rest of us plebs say without that having so much less loot?

Harbinger league being trash=check as usual in many threads. Took two patches and so far drop-wise, I have not seen a difference.

Es/usual GGG hit by the Nerf nuke=check as usual in many threads

Lab sucking ass= check as usual (forget about the damage/traps, just the dc/crashes are enough to drive a sane person away)

servers still being run on hamster wheels and one day working fine, the next day it's 1400 frame rate ms =another valid thing in many threads

The rest I am neutral on but those points I kind of agree on.
