How PVP can become a main attraction

Had a quick thought while playing regarding the current PVP structure. I know people have suggested that there should be a form of betting with items / currency, but what if we did that on a larger scale. Say we have a pool instead, where we host a weekly tourny and it costs 5 chaos to enter. Make it so if you're in the top whatever you get a certain payout. Once in a while we can have high roller games, say 50 exalts to enter. Imagine if we could spectate something as beautiful as that!

Sorry if this has been suggested already, but if it happens I do hope we see it in the game!

Not until PVP isn't a broken mess of hard counters, one-shots and immortal characters.

Yeah, solid point. I wonder if in these games some kind of equal balance can be in play. I'd love to see what kind of builds people come up with
I've been in the pvp community since only 1.3 and I can say the BIGGEST way to make pvp a big attraction is to first balance it. Never be a perfect balance, since that's almost impossible to achieve in any game, but right now pvp desperately needs it.

Once a good groundwork is out in place, we the players can handle any tournaments and such on our own. But a few alt art races couldn't hurt!

The game is too old and clunky to have a proper PVP.

That's one way of saying you think the developers can't do a good job lol

It *can* have a proper PVP, just the shitty community as a whole doesn't seem to want to let it. I'm talking about the anti-PVPers and the ones who go in with unkillable, no-effort-or-input-needed builds.

It's very difficult to balance a game vs AI monsters and then also balance the game vs other players. You would have to make a entirely separate game with different gear and skills available that don't interact with the core game. It's just to much work for something pretty small in an ARPG. Unless you build your game from the ground up with PVP in mind, it's always just a side attraction to have fun with but not take to seriously.
I'll be honest, you're the first person I've really seen to ever have a completely logical argument regarding balancing PVP or not.

That said, the PVP community is already up on the things that need balancing the most and we offer suggestions for exactly that. All GGG has to do is take the hour or two (I'm being generous in assuming it would take that long) to add proper T-Values and damage reductions, adjust block chance and life/ES regen, adjust Pathfinder's natural superiority in PVP (don't get me started), and we're good to go. That's it!

I'm glad your knowledge of the game's code is so thorough that you know exactly how easy the changes are and how long they'll take.
