Lack of TP makes for frustrating play

I'm new to POE. My Witch is about level 13. I'm selling everything I find to get resources for later. However, town portal scrolls are expensive and sometimes I can't afford any. Therefore, I'm always having to run back to waypoint to town. Sometimes when I have to run far to an earlier level, it has regenerated already, so I just give up and decide not to sell all the new items that have dropped. By the time I found the waypoint and returned, the new items may be gone as *that* area may have regenerated. What am I doing wrong? Should I not try to sell everything? Playing is frustrating at the moment :(

I would recommend getting a loot filter, first of all. A quick google search should do the trick. ZiggyD and Neversink are both reliable sources, although there are guides out there to making your own. I'm fairly lazy, so I never do that.

Aside from that, PoE has fairly limited inventory space. You can pick up some of what you find, but not all of it. Blue items are almost never worth picking up to sell, unless you're in the early game. Even still I don't do that. Whites either. Yellow items get you a good chunk of currency, however, so those are worth picking up.

The game is not balanced around you picking up every single bit of loot you find. Rather, it is about you selecting which piece of loot suits your character (or another character you have in mind for the future) best, and either wearing it, stashing it, or modifying it with currency. Therefore, don't worry about picking up every little thing. Focus on finding gear with good sockets and links, and then with good stats (generally: HP (or Energy Shield), Elemental Resistances, and larger damage mods for weapons).

I've linked to the PoE wiki for help on lootfilters here: https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Item_filter

Hope this helped!

Sounds like you might be getting a bit unlucky. Yes, on the first character ever or the first of a league there is some lag time early in the game where you are way short on resources. I'm guessing at lvl 13 you are about to get around the corner... just give it a little more time.
Thanks to everyone for the good advice and suggestions :)

Tip if you don't have a portal scroll: Just log off, then back on. You will appear in the last town you visited.
yeah, when starting fresh, even TP scrolls can be rare. You will have many of them soon. you can use the logout trick in some situations. But actually we are not supposed to pick up everything..

you dont need some special loot filter early on. I suggest using the default filter you can activate in settings.

You can sell Whetstones and Armourer for portal stones early in game, later you will want to keep them.

As others have mentioned picking up everything is not intended, nor time efficient. Thus getting a loot filter and only picking up rares and uniques would be a start.

Also, there IS a gem, called Portal, that creates a town portal with no cost. However it is mob drop only, but you might be able to get one by searching on POE trade.

If you happen to be playing soft core standard send me PM on the forums here and I'll give you one for free (when we are both on at the same time)

I don't get why those are so cheap. The drop-rate for me personally has been 1:1000 hours played. Funnily, I've seen more Ex drop than Portal's.

That's because there is a sink for exalts and other orbs. Portal gems, once dropped, reside in the game effectively forever.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
