The Atlas system is still hot garbage and a way to fix it

Doc, you have elicited a sigh from me. Sigh.

Miska, Orb of Horizons doesn't say "Reforge a T7 map as Catacombs" or "Reforge two T8 maps as Tropical Island and Shore." I could easily burn them all for nothing. It seems especially dumb to burn them on low tier maps when T12+ can be insanely difficult to get.

I'm alching all my maps. I'm not chiseling T5-7 maps. Burning my chisels before I get to red maps would be pretty dumb.

As for the triviality of getting great map drops, it would be good to remember that POE is a game with RNG. Last league I unlocked uber lab at seven trials. This league I've done eight trials and only have three different ones completed. Map drops are the same way. If you're getting great map drops, it's not because map drops are great. It's because map drops are great for you. Some people are eating shit.

Note, however, that this thread has literally nothing to do with map sustainability. I made it perfectly clear that I have plenty of great maps to run. I just can't fucking run them because that would make it even more outrageously difficult to get the missing maps to drop. If I'm not getting the T8s I need when there's a 1/1 chance of one of them dropping, I sure as shit don't want to try when it's something like 2/8.

Again, try to respond to the merit of my post. Defend GGG's current Atlas implementation, especially in the context of arguing against potential improvements. If you fail to do this, there's no conversation we can even have. Try really, really hard to make sure you understand what I've said here. If you're saying things like "it's easy to sustain maps," you have no clue what this thread's about.

I won't reply to further off topic posts. Knock yourself out if you still want to make them, though.

Stop being ignorant and blame it on RNG. It has ZERO to do with RNG. You are making a mistake trying to tier up. Now you can explain what you do, and we can help you. Or stay at t5 maps and pretend RNG is working against you.
The problem with the entire discussion is that it is predicated on the idea that making map unlocks earier is an improvement. Not everyone is going to agree with that. It negatively effects longevity of progression, which is a problem for a game trying to keep more players engaged for longer periods of time.

First mistake your making is you claim you CANT run your T8s? WTF the first rule of thumb ive found in completing the atlas the easiest is ALWAYS run your highest map you have for unlock. You should ALWAYS have at least one +1 and if you can one +2 map somewhere on the atlas unlocked relative to the content you're actually running. If you are running T7s right now you need to have some T8s and at least one or two T9s unlocked so when your mapping you can actually have not only your adjacent map but all unlocked maps able to drop on mobs. And always have at least one possible +2 map unlocked so you can get boss drops +2.

This makes no sense whatsoever when you do the math. Let's say I get my first T8 map to drop and run it. Whenever a T8 map drops now, it has a chance to be that map. Here we go:

My way - you farm all T8 maps and unlock nothing:
Run adjacent maps until the T8s all drop. Each time a T8 drops, you will have either a 100% or 50% chance of getting the map you need, depending on whether there are one or two adjacent T8s. Total T8 map drops required to unlock them all: ~10 with average RNG on maps with two adjacent T8s.

Your way - you unlock T8 maps as you get them:
Shore drops, you unlock it. Now the next T8 map that drops anywhere has a 50% chance of being Shore (33% with two adjacent T8s). You unlock the next. Now the next map has a 67% chance of being one you don't need. The next has a 75%, and so on. Total T8 map drops required to unlock them all: I'm not doing the math, but it's a fuckload more than 10.

I'll stick with the vastly easier option. You're handicapping yourself tremendously by unlocking a tier before all the bases drop.

What does it matter for map progressing wether you get 10x the same t8 or all different ones. Are you trying to tier up WHILE opening up every single map of that tier? Because that's not realistic at all.
The advice to use zana is pretty silly too. She's slow as fuck for unlocking atlas and her prices aren't that great either.

The problem with the atlas isn't that it takes too long to unlock. It's ok if you go breadth first and buy a few missing maps every tier. The problem is if you try to go depth first, you gimp yourself completely and it takes forever to get the remaining unlocks.

This feels shitty because it leaves you with high level maps that you want to run but shouldn't.

However, the atlas mechanics also enable shaping, which is great. Any change GGG makes should preserve the shapeabiloty of the atlas imo.
Not sure with all the controversy, bitching, moaning, whining over the new content we have here a thread talking about very old content. What is going on?

I've made this damn thread every release since Atlas hit. I'm always hoping it'll be the last one. I kept making threads about giving every class all the gems. I kept making threads about the lack of reminders in the lab. I think almost every thread of mine has been resolved because my complaints are about legitimate problems that impact most players, and which have an easy solution that improves the game instead of simply changing it.

Still, every damn time I make one of these threads, people come along and say the most ridiculous nonsense. I make these threads for GGG, though, not the worst members of the POE community. I don't know if GGG actually listens when someone makes coherent, reasonable complaints and requests, but they sure as hell fix nearly everything I complain about within a couple of leagues.

I haven't bumped my thread about how easy it is to delete jewels on a character you're deleting recently. That problem's still alive and sucking.

I agree with you on the deleting jewels. That would be an easy problem for them to fix as well. Frankly, I am surprised they have not addressed it in all this time.

Ignorance is bliss
If you are playing SSF then you chose to limit your options... so yeah that was your choice

its like complaining that your bicycle is not keeping up with cars

your bike will get you there but it might take a really long time

but no one made you ride the bike, in fact you have the option to get in the car at any time
I dont see any any key!
