Until the majority works up the courage to explain why they need to balance the way they make money and allows us to trade COSMETICS? Nothing will happen. I will work on something more refined to get people to speak up. Theirs absolutely no damn good reason that can't be balanced to allow this to happen. Many MANY games already allow it and they live to this day.

I don't think it can be explained any better (or more patiently) than how Charan put it. It sucks sometimes, but is necessary.

I'll try a different spin nonetheless:
Imagine the mystery box was to give (only MTX you don't have yet) or (nothing at all). Then it would be a lottery as you know it. If you win, you get an MTX worth a lot more than the box price, if you lose, you get nothing.
Would that make you happier? Because essentially, that is what is happening. Your duplicates are duds. Maybe GGG should implement a way to delete them (after really safe confirmations) or just an option toggle "Hide duplicate MTX".

Hm, maybe the true lottery would be better anyway. A dud should give something, though. Like maybe a single consumable firework MTX...

Or a few points, or something, or just allow us to trade other players with something of same or equal point value between a set points.

Dumb Example for those unable to try,

I have 5 Bandanas worth 40 points each,

Allow a trade in for 25% worth their point value.

Or.

I have a Pure Light Footprints worth 80 points,

Allow me to trade with a friend for the Ultimate Chaos Footprints to complete my set which is of exact same value.

There is no loss to this. Other than more gambling.

We all know the stacks of unnecessary and outdated MTX is over the top at this point and seems to be getting worse.

From the announcement we know that the average value of the boxes is 110 points. So that means if the MTXs were tradable the boxes would have to cost 11 US $. How many people would buy them then?

Of course, the price could be slightly less if trading unwanted MTX in for more points would be at a low rate, but then people might feel cheated.
No, it's just too much hassle for GGG and you can assume they've done the maths.

I really would suggest to GGG to make the boxes give nothing (or a single consumable MTX) if the user would get a duplicate. Of course, HO decorations and pets may be duplicate, and 1H weapons could use a single duplicate of each before the result is overridden by "nothing".
This would it make it 100% clear that it's a lottery and people would complain less.

Instead of going for eachothers throats, why not just give eachother a chance to come with their views, not attack any other post that you agree on.

I'm fairly new to the forums, as a matter of fact this is my very first forum post, despite the fact that I've played the game in years and flooded quite a few bucks into the supporter packs and point packs.

I was actually looking for a thread like this, as with the newest mystery boxes, I believe I poured about 1.300 points into these.
I got a lot of pieces that were neat, and quite a few duds (Hideout stuff, you gotta admit, those are a bit 'meh'), and quite a few duplicates.

I'm gonna start out, that I'm not for the trading part of this post, I don't believe it'll work and it'll way too fast spin out of control with people demanding real life money for them. If some of you play WoW, think the TCG with their mount rewards, people are paying obscene amounts of money for those things.

Before I give my 2 cents on what could be a somewhat welcome (to some) solution, I wanna point out that I do know, that mystery boxes is a gamble! :-).
I'm thinking somewhere in the line of a 'shard system' (think Heroes of the Storm if any of you played this or Overwatch for that matter).
This could possibly only apply to weapons, auras, skill gems, armorsets etc, as HO items should stack up as you can decorate your HO any way you want. But let's face it, your character cannot use 2 Pure Light Body Armours at once. Yes I know you can use them on multiple characters, but the reality is, with the next MTX system (and yes it IS amazing), there's nothing holding people back from just swapping your favorite set of the month from 1 character to another.

Let's say you buy a handfull of Chaos Mystery Boxes, out of these boxes you get 2x Chaos Body Armours and 2x Pure Light Body Armours, essentially those are 'duds', deadweight, you lost the lottery kinda scenarios.
Would it be all that bad, if those duplicates would be converted back into points, let's say 5 points pr. duplicated armor piece, wings, footprints and so on (just not HO items, as yes, those should be stacking up).
This would still give people the incentive to buy more mystery boxes, cause let's be honest, we all want those sweet sweet MTX's, and at the same time, it'll give people the chance to get some use out of the otherwise useless duplicates.
It still keeps the 'duds' part of the gamble (again, HO items not as fancy as the armor MTX and so forth) and the fact that the refund from the box would only be 1/6 of the total cost of the box itself. This means you'd have to have 6 duplicated items that's elligble for a refund before you can buy yourself a new box.

I know GGG makes some of their money from the MTX system, doing it like this, the loss may not be as big as with some of the other suggested solutions. But what it will really give, is people a chance of getting rid of their duplicates, and the way I look at it, it'll actually give people a bigger incentive to buy more boxes, as a duplicate aint a complete waste.

Just my 2 cents, I hope you guys wont tear me a new one because I speak my mind :-)

The fuck does RMT have to do with Standard? Are you implying that RMT isn't a potential problem in temp leagues? You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. This thread just reads as "I got a bunch of duplicates by gambling, and I'm a sore loser."
