I don't think you realize how bad this is for PoE. This 'mod' has not only stolen the name but also skills entirely based on the PoE skills. Do you know what this does? It takes gamers away from PoE. PoE loses money because some idiot basically combined PoE with D2 without thinking about the protection of intellectual property. Now Blizzard is going to reap the rewards when more people buy D2 because of stolen PoE features. It's bullshit.

Holy-moly. Fun-made mods that doesn't bring direct income aren't illegal and nobody in sound mind would ever sue modder.
Go to Nexusmods site and see how many mods for so many games are made and imagine quantity of new courts needed to be opened to satisfy all these potential sues.

Modifying itself isn't illegal but modifying by stealing things from other games is. Creating Vaal Orbs in PoD and using the name PoD are examples of a copyright infringement.

Still Blizzard is not to blame but the ones making the mod.

if a mod based on a 2 decade old game manages to steal people from poe . that is poe's fault.

poe is a f2p game . it lives and dies on whales. whales tend to consume a shitload of content. pod is basically a hold over for alot of people because .. well .. most of them already played the shit out of poe this league and the idea of having legacy extended doesn't really tickle their fancy.

If anything PoD is actually a boon of poe because it introduces a ton of poe specific quality of life features to a community that might not be exposed to them. you know what will happen? they are going to ask where these wonderful thing came from.. and the mod author is going to fucking link this website to them.

PoD is advertising to poe just much as it is for diablo.

Blizzard is a mega corporation the profits they would make from pod , a mod with a player base only maybe in the thousands .. is a god damn drop in the bucket .. its a drop in the bucket even for poe which boasts over 17 million unique accounts.

also game design is built on the bed rock of taking what works in other games and making your game better with them. by your limited definition the creators of bioshock and system shock should get to sue Bethesda for prey
or the ghost of tolken should get to sue literally every human being in existence for using anything that even looks close to an orc, elf or wizard.. you know why they dont? because its fucking moronic.

stop trying to turn a wonderful idea into a toxic slosh ... it has no good purpose.

Your point on advertising is good which may be why GGG hasn't done anything. But you can't compare it to elves and wizards who have been around forever in fictional works and don't really belong to anyone. The name Path of Diablo and the use of Vaal Orbs and exact copying of skills directly from PoE are all more than just 'ideas' and 'inspiration'. This is quite clearly a combination of PoE and Diablo 2 - it is no secret. If it gets big, GGG should have rights to a share of the profits.
It doesn't matter how big it gets. As long as the mod creator isn't profiting monetarily from using PoE-like ideas within the mod itself, no harm done.

But Blizzard would profit from it. I don't know about you, but I hate Blizzard and do not want them to profit from GGG at all. Lol.

As Saltychipmunk said, if Blizzard profits, it's more because PoE needs to improve. Mods like this happen when players aren't having fun anymore. D2 & LoD was a great great experience. Hopefully GGG takes note of what's happening and adjusts accordingly.

How would Blizzard profit from it? Nobody is buying Diablo from Blizzard so they can play this mod. It won't be available on battlenet or whatever they call their servers these days. Whoever downloads this mod has either had their copy of diablo for some 18 years or they are getting a pirated copy. And maybe you didn't notice, but GGG has a lot of elements that are identical to Diablo and other games. You think GGG came up with the red and blue mana globes? Or waypoints?
