No end to Standard inflation?

Theres only 2 reasons to play in standard.
1. You're new and dont know about Leagues
2. You're super casual and dont want to start over because you think its hard.

Building up currency and gear in a new league isnt really that hard. You cant really respect anyone as a serious gamer if they choose to play in standard anymore.

Also, figuring out the best way to generate currency using new league mechanics is far more satisfying rather than loading up the game and strapping on whatever gear youve built up over years of gameplay.

I mean whats the challenge if you dont have to work for gear anymore? thats what makes standard super casual. Thats what makes Leagues so much more fun, the challenge is much much higher and is refreshed with each restart.

Its also why leagues tend to die down after the first 2 months. Everyone has gotten the gear they want and have little to work for anymore. It loses its challenge because you can just strap on the gear you've built up.

Actually I found these two reasons more likely:
1. You don't care about league mechanics so starting over is a waste of time, and their time has value (maybe you'd rather play a different game, maybe you need to work, heck maybe you'd even like to sleep a little bit).
2. You genuinely don't have the time to play in the league and accomplish anything before it ends (this happens a lot if you like to play self found, or if you work a full time job and can't afford to take vacation every time a league starts).

I don't see how either one of these has anything to do with being a "serious" gamer. I consider your remarks quite inflammatory and understand why people are knocking you for it. Get off your high horse, you're just as bad or worse than people that claim if you're not playing hardcore you're doing it wrong -- it's just another way to play. Let people play however they want to play. If you don't like it, don't play that way.

Look another Standard player on the Standard thread feeling the need to defend themselves about playing standard. Why are you guys so sensitive, why do you guys care so much about what I think? If you think im wrong, then why are you guys acting like you care about my opinion so much?

I never said anything was wrong with being a casual, or playing casually, I simply stated that if you consider yourself a serious gamer, then youre lying to yourself by choosing to play standard. Its you and the others that took offense to it, meaning you consider yourself a serious gamer, but play in standard.

People like you call yourself out all the time without even realizing it. I even tried to hint towards it by inflating the level of satire in the persona of an elitist player, but you guys just cant take the hint. Here's a couple of examples in my conversation with snorkle_uk. Im not sure if he ever truly got it or if he just went to bed.

I mean no one actually talks like this, anyone who does is trolling or trying to get your attention. Apparently I have to come right out and say it.

Bottom line is theres nothing wrong with being a casual or playing casually, but you cant play standard and consider yourself a serious gamer. If you do, youre just lying to yourself.
excuse me but i do not think we have met. who are you to make these 'rules' and enforce them on others?

consider what you want. your right to do so. but do not expect anyone to care..

before you talk me down just like you did with other - number next to my name is higher than yours so 90% of your argument already failed

OP didnt suggest any rules, what are you talking about?
ANY form of item sink would make the economy a little better in standart (and in leagues too)

Make 5 for 1 prophecy a normal recipe would for sure provide a sink for uniques the drop rate of really valuable items is soo low that it would have negligible efect on them

On the other side the removal of worthless items from the game will make them more valuable probably increasing their value to 1c (based on the price of the prophecy on poe.trade)

Many ppl LIKE gambling and they will start buy useless uniques to use on the recipe but they will almost never get something valuable and this will remove TONS of worthless uniques from the market

WTF are you even talking about? Standard economy is far more stable than every other poe economy!

Vendoring worthless uniques is an even better way of cleaning the clutter :-)

This will not happen unless you give people an incentive to part with items they have "earned" in-game. Hence the 5-for-1 item reduction suggestion.

ALL your 'solutions' would make things worse! THE problem with standard is the influx of items and currency. You have no solution to that problem, and all the things you suggest would make matters worse.

Nope, they would reduce the number of items, so they would improve the current situation.

You seem to be willing to only accept a "perfect" solution. There is only one: Stop picking up items. That way, you can stop at least your influx of items to std. Don't want to do that? Oh, you just want *others* to stop the infux, making your items worth more?! Hm, colour me unimpressed...
May your maps be bountiful, exile

Considering that I am mostly a casual player -- level 98 might not seem so casual but I only put in a few hours a week tops, been that way for a while, hoping to hit 99 before 3.0 hits -- I wouldn't necessarily say I'm defending myself.

But I do question your definition of "serious" gamer. Do you mean people that hit level 100 -- plenty of people pushing for it in standard. Do you mean people that farm the highest end content -- again plenty of people doing that too. Do you mean people that do ladder racing -- solely a league mechanic since, well the ladder race has been over since before the game launched. Do you mean people that no life the game -- there are people in standard that do that too.

So let me get this straight, the only requirement you set for "serious" gamer so far is playing the league. Which means Snorkle_uk qualified. If I make a character and just put him into lioneye's watch I should be a serious gamer by your metric. And yes I do find it inflammatory because you're being condescending to people that enjoy the game a different way than you do. I actually almost prefer the people that just come out and say "fuck standard".

Well youre obviously way too simple to understand so ill give you your treat to put your mind at ease, fuck standard.
Thank you guys for interesting responses and discussion.

Still, may be some people little bit too agressive?

Its not Standard vs Leagues. And pro's vs casuals/noobs.

I generaly just suggested that it will be nice to have more item sink mechanics for Standard (and this still can be used to some extend in every League TOO).

With current day farm speed and effectivness (experience in that "field"), relative power of characters to content, balance simply make game more flavorless in terms of that you skip (or just srap for alts) 99,9% of items or they cost almost nothing (may be 1c). While leagues give some fresh start bonus for 2-3 first weeks (even more), in Standard this process gone too far (game balance weaknesess multiplicated and accomulated here).

And while Standard is by all means "secondary" priority (this is completly understandable - no one argues), this not means, that 25% of game polulation (even 20 or 15) deserve only zero effort from GGG to make things little better for them.
