[3.14] Flame Golem 101 - Complete Guide To Golemancy, ✔️All Bosses Down, ✔️Necro, ✔️Elementalist

Hello!

I'm eyeing the build as something I might try out but I had a question. Specifically, another golemancer build claimed that it's not worth it to use a victario's charity and to instead go for a second clayshaper, as it claimed that the frenzy charges don't do much for flame golems as they're being gated by cooldowns rather than cast speed, which POB apparently doesn't properly take into account for the golems. This results in it being more beneficial to take a second clayshaper for more golems since the victario's charity doesn't do much for you (supposedly).

There's a link to a spreadsheet going over some numbers on it (on the "how many harmonies should I use" tab) here.

What's your opinion on the matter?

The PoB pastebin (basic necromancer) has phase run at level 5 and quality 20. Why only level 5?

Another doubt I have. I have a helmet with burning damage, minion life and minion damage as recommended in the guide. Can I use this same helmet for both solar guards and Tokuhama Vanguards or the burning damage is wasted in solar guards?

Thanks!

Hello :)

Phae Runs dexterity requirements raise really fast and the benefit is only some movement speed. Char normally needs about 100+ dex, while Phase Run goes over 150 dex on max level. Level 5 is balanced with other DEX requirement from gear and gems.

Burning damage on helmet works pretty much only with Tukohamas. Solar Guards can ignite enemies, but their damage is so low that support wont really increase DPS even if it works.

Hey :)

Golems damage has lot of modifiers like :
- Base damage
- "Increased" damage
- "More" damage
- Cast speed
- Cooldown
- curses / auras / Animate Guardian etc

Lot's of the stats are not visible to the player and PoB has hard time calculating minions real damage. Stacking only one of the list modifier works only so far, and becomes weaker the higher you stack it. For example harmonies add lots of "increased", but no "more" damage. Golems get hundreds of % of increased damage easily, so stacking as many Harmonies after certain point comes weaker. It becomes easier to raise DPS by increasing other modifiers after that point.

There are lot of calculation about how many Harmonies should be used, how many Golems types and if Eminences should be used also. I can't say that there is any "right" number as we can't really verify it. I recommend mixing decent amount of Harmonies and maybe other Golem types if you can keep at least 4x Flame Golems active.

After certain amount of Harmonies, cast speed becomes slowing factor compared to cooldown as Golems cast slower than cooldown is. There are only very few ways to speed their casting and Frenzy Charges is one of the best way (45% cast speed). I recommend trying with charges and without and see which works better. Charges give about 1.5x DPS multiplies and makes Golems lot faster (15% movement speed). Increase is more noticable in clear-speed than in bossing.

Hello :)

I'm pretty hyped for the change, I gotta say!

"introduced the Carrion Golem"
- Extra Golem seems very nice to run with Tukohama Vanguards and Animage Guardian
"added new support gems that allow you to fine-tune minion behaviour"
- Possible upcoming change to tune minion AI is excellent as Specs really need more aggressive AI. I hope they make this like
1. Defensive AI minion damage support
2. Normal AI minion damage support
3. Aggressive AI minion damage support,
so that they can be used with all minion types.
"We have buffed the per-gem-level progression of many minion types"
- This is great and should make leveling with Necro even easier
"added a high-level wand base type that can roll powerful minion mods and have made many other changes"
- I pray for "+1 Golem" mod to ditch the Clayshaper. Othervise could be relevant if focusing on TV specs for fastest possible boss kills.
"we have significantly revamped many Summoner mechanics and the Witch's Necromancer Ascendancy Class"
- This can give new toys for the build and even create new style to play Golems + Specs. I hope we get more passive support type as the current Necro, and more active caster for DPS buffs type for players that want more action while playing with minions.

Overall we could get some "Minion regen" nodes near "Lord of the dead", which would finally drop all need for early level regen gimmicks to keep zombies alive while leveling.

And this was the league I was finally going to do HC to mix it up. After 5 or whatever golem leagues in a row.
Just seen this on today's announcement:

A single Carrion Golem fits well into established Minion builds as an extra bonus to all of your necromantic minions. It can also be invested in more heavily by taking various sources of additional golems (including a new notable passive)

Seems like we might finally be getting +1 golem on the tree!!!

Hi :)

Yep, seems like it's minions again. Not sure how well minions work for HC if not for farming currency / gear as you wont have life-leech for end-game maps.

Hello :)

Wow, Golem passive! If we get even one extra Golem, adding carrion Golem will be very easy. Dropping Flame Golems from 4x to 3x feels like it could drop the DPS, but with extra Golem there will be enough projectile based Golems to kepe clear-speed up.

Summon Carrion Golem
Spoiler
The Carrion Golem is a well-rounded attacker, using a rapid melee attack, a leap slam to get into the thick of combat, and a powerful cooldown-restricted multi-cascade slam. As its passive Golem buff, it grants added physical damage to all non-golem minions, including their attacks and spells. It has a unique feature among golems, gaining more damage for each of your non-golem minions around it, up to 80% more damage.

A single Carrion Golem fits well into established Minion builds as an extra bonus to all of your necromantic minions. It can also be invested in more heavily by taking various sources of additional golems (including a new notable passive) and using multiple golems alongside a swarm of zombies or skeletons.

Adding physical damage to other minions spells is great, but won't benefit Tukohama Vanguards at all. Will have to check which combination of Golems + minions gains most benefit from this once we get the numbers.

I guess I will make new variant to test Carrion Golems. Most likely using "Rise of the Phoenix" shield and "Infernal Legion Support" mixing lot of melee minions and using "Infernal Legion Support" on all minions to create massive, whole screen burn effect.

Feeding Frenzy Support
Spoiler
The Feeding Frenzy support gem makes supported minions aggressive, increasing the range that they'll seek out enemies. It also gives hits from the minions a chance to give you the Feeding Frenzy buff, granting more minion damage and increased minion attack, cast and movement speed. While you have the Feeding Frenzy buff, the supported minions deal even more damage.

This is nice for Specs, as all of the buffs work for TV Specs. Have to see how this affect them.

Deathmark Support
Spoiler
The Deathmark support gem grants supported minions more damage, and grants you the Deathmark skill. Casting Deathmark on an enemy causes all minions supported by a Deathmark support to prioritise attacking the target, and gives them a further damage multiplier against that enemy. Casting Deathmark on a new enemy removes any existing Deathmark.

You can Deathmark to have precise targeting for specific minions, and the Deathmark targeting will override Aggressive or Defensive behaviour while it is active. The minions will fall back on their regular targeting if no Deathmark is present.

Different combinations of these three support gems let you use different minions for different roles. An example might be using your Zombies with Meat Shield to protect you, your Carrion Golems with Feeding Frenzy to clear groups of enemies, and the Deathmark Support on both of them so you can send all of them in after bosses while you evade the bosses abilities from a distance.

This is EXCELLENT for TV specs. Now we can finally force all TVs to target boss at once. One guild member reported that he found legion jewel that granted 360% minon damage from the tree. with TVs on 8-link helmet, Deathmark and optimally that jewel boss fights will end FAST.

Infernal Legion Support
Spoiler
The Infernal Legion support gem causes supported minions to take a large percent of their maximum life as fire damage over time. They all gain a burning damage aura, dealing fire damage over time to nearby enemies. The effect doesn't stack, but is modified by minion damage increases and other support gems.

This support can be used to deal damage to large groups of enemies, and is available at quite a low level, so is an alternative to Melee Splash for some minion types. It also works well alongside the Minion Instability keystone, letting you use your minions as walking time bombs.

This could work excellently with minions using "Necromantic Aegis" + "Rise of the Phoenix", preferrably legacy version. Elementalist Flame Golems will be immune to it, but they are no melee based so it's not very effective. I guess I will test this with my Ice Golem variant using Carrion Golem also. Ice Golems lack area damage and this could help with clear-speed. Maybe using "Storm Burst" to trigger Elemental Equilibrium for fire and cold and adding Harted for extra cold damage.

Golems also regen ridiculous amount of HP per second thanks to Harmonies, so they are excellent candidates for the new support.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O33Z_-hJuJM Will the Spectral Tacticians SRS sub-minions also get the damage aura? They should as support affect them directly. Spectral Tacticians summon new SRS dozen in a second, so the SRSs could clear pretty fast. Auras don't stack, but could be fun to try out how well they will cover the screen.

INITIAL CHANGES

CONFIRMED

Elementalist with Flame Golems + Ice Golem + Lightning Golem

Current Elementalist will be converted to the "Pledge of Hands" -setup. It has been working excellently and feels different from Necro setup. Legion becomes core right at 3.8.0 start, so there will be plenty of Pledge in new league.

POSSIBLE

Necro with Flame Golems + Tukohama Vanguards
- Tukohama Specs => "Minion Elemental Resistances support" -> "Deathmark Support"

This seems like suck massive DPS boost that it has to be tested if Necros aura 20% ele resistance and ele res nodes from tree can keep TVs alive. Fortunately they are quite tanky with "Soul Weaver", so TVs should not die very easily.

Necro with Ice Golems

- "Winter Orb" -> "Arc"

This triggers "Elemental Equilibrium" for both Ice and Fire damage.

- Ice Golems => "Brutality support" -> "Infernal Legion Support"

This will give Ice Golems potentially better clear speed with fire damage aura.

- Curses / auras -> "Harted"

This will boost Ice Golems damage with new "Elemental Equilibrium" skills

- Victario's Charity -> Rise of the Phoenix

This will make Ice Golems resistant to the damage from "Infernal Legion Support"

https://i.imgur.com/EPXMjVo.png These new upcoming gloves could be used to convert 100% of Ice / Carrion Golems damage to fire, further buffing the fire damage normally physical minions would be doing with their fire damage aura.

UPDATE

Upgraded Elementalist variant to "Pledge of Hands" -setup

Hello, thanks for your awesome guide! I am having much fun with it and your section for leveling is great! It just feels awesome breezing through the enemies! :)

Just one quick noob question: In Step 2 you write "Take 2x Jewel sockets". Do you mean a second jewel socket or two sockets? Because I only find a second one in this poe planner link. I checked your character and you took the one left of "Shaper", is this the recommended one?
