POE not new player friendly
thx for your input all. totally agree if it is designed this way but lets think of it like this:
I am an average gamer ok; and I start playing a game. I will probably need some guidance on various aspects of the game. Not all of them, not in great depth but some levers are definitely needed to push my progression further Definitely there are exceptions but a framework of options would be nice so ppl can engage into the content easier and faster (but not to the point that the game becomes solitaire tho) thx again |

ya know, we hear this all the time. its a valid statement BUT..
i didn't have any tutorials and i found out how to play by failing, joining guilds, asking people, watching streams and reading the wiki. what else do you need?????????? the lack of tutorials is part of this game and it seems for many, that it is a breaking point. shame that a little self research get's people bent out of shape. poe was my very first computer game- i played consoles my whole life. i failed for a year but i kept at it and now, although im still no pro by any means, the wiki saves me loads of time and the people ive met, keep me informed. poe is by far, my most favorite game on this planet- moreso than Mario Bro's 3 and that is an epic game that resonates throughout my childhood. POE is life. POE is ♥. Last edited by KonaLuvsPOE#3058 on Jan 3, 2017, 5:09:20 PM

The funny part is that the game is designed to be played without all the ressources we have nowadays. ;)
Maybe GGG should market the "figuring things out" aspect of the game more to make clear that this is part of the game. Perception is reality.

" In counterpoint, as an average, casual gamer my first thought when I encounter issues like this is to google the wiki for the game (if it exists - it usually does), check reddit (almost always one of those and searchable for informative things) or to enter the name of the game + guide into youtube and see what comes up. Or maybe I'm not average, but it still seems odd to me that in this day and age of mass information availability that some people still need things explicitly pointed out to them. I think maybe a SMALL amount of (optional) tutorial things would be beneficial, but outside of the extreme basics (that I'm pretty sure we already get re: sockets and skill gems; If not, I'll chalk it up to failing memory and say just a quick single splash screen could cover it), any more hand-holding tends to be detrimental. The more tutorial stuff there is the more likely people are to skip through it to get back to the actual gameplay. |

GGG wants people to "discover" how game works. It's supposed to be part of fun but for most people who are used to get into games without much work or thinking it get's frustrating.
I recommend poe wiki and poe/redit forums. You tube has tons of guides as well. |

Yeah it's not new player friendly, and it shouldn't be.
Everyone who's no longer new has gone a similar learning curve you have to go through if you continue playing. Nothing wrong with that. You don't need to like trading and you don't even need to trade. You can craft most of your items yourself (alch, essences, masters) that can get you quite far. |

While i personally dont mind too much, i agree.
I can't get any of my friends into PoE, even though they love stuff like Diablo and torchlight. They just complain It's too complicated, i have no idea how GGG could adress that though :/ |

I'm really convinced that we've stopped teaching people how to learn. Instead, people are taught to pay attention and repeat what they've been told.
This is just one symptom of that. |

" Well, it could also be that people come here looking for help and are told to sack up or go play WoW. On the other hand, I did get to play last night after my comment here yesterday, and did notice there are some in game pointers that are new (since the last time I played) that really help. Uh for ex. there is a brief one liner next to stun threshold on items that explains it. That is huge. There was another little one I noticed as well. Just quick things that don't get in the way that cleared up questions I've had for a while but made far more sense once I saw them in game. |

" I would say this isn't exactly true. When people come here and want to learn, and have legitimate questions, they get good answers 99% of the time. They get told to go play WoW/D3 when they show up here and bitch about mechanics that they don't understand/RNG/etc. U MAD?
