[2.5][HC]OldManSyndrome's Aegis/Ed MoM Hierophant

I can have capped block without the corrupted laz depending on how I vary the spec. Could potentially go a +1 curse laz instead, just not quite sure where the curse would go. Perhaps vuln in the cwdt+ic setup.

I have considered other ascendancies, and none of them really work for this build the way hierophant does.

I calculated the block chance in this build. You get 21% block chance from tree, 32% from aegis, 15% from advancing fortress (no uber expensive red nightmare + decay sai), as well as 2% block chance on gloves = 70% block chance that will always be there. Tempest shield adds another 3%.

73% block chance + 3% (all i can afford on a lazhwars atm) = 76%, tho without tempest will only be 73%. Is tempest up all the time?

Edit: Oh wait. Reckless defense is +2% minimum. Also, if you have overcapped block, does that apply to spell block? Like if your block is 80%, will your spellblock also rise (if it was below cap and your block-spellblock conversion is < 100%)

No, spellblock conversion only works of actual block value, so any block past 75 is wasted.

Yes, tempest is always up. My duration per cast is around 30 seconds, and that refreshes to another 30 seconds every time I block.

You can also get block on jewels if you feel like it.

I do not recommend reckless defenses for regular play, but it's viable for swapping in for spell heavy situations.

What's wrong with reckless defence? 7-10% additional is not such a huge difference, right? After all, I'm only using one. Meanwhile, raises block by 2-4%, and grants like 15% more spellblock.

Considering monsters have like 5% crit chance, adding 7-10% onto that is a very huge difference. Degenerations are our weakness, and crits with fire damage cause ignite. Ontop of that, extra crits cause us to be stunned more often.

We also get the majority of our damage from jewels. Seeing as we don't need this jewel to cap block, there's no real reason to use it outside of situations where we swap it in for a single encounter.

Where would you say this build's dps is at for bosses without red nightmare + decay sai? Including poison.
Works fine for bosses without red nightmare and decay sai, I've been using it for boss killing since perandus league and didn't start using a decay sai until a few weeks ago.

The focus of this build is damage per cast, not damage per second to maximize our mobility on bosses. A single cast of ED can do well over a million damage without poison or decay.
