Depends on who you are asking. :)

My TT in HO, with wrath, discipline, and lightning golem up, is currently 40,964.4.

If I add Ancestral Protector to that, it bumps up to 49,045.

Fully buffed in the field, with 8 frenzy charges, Vinktars, Elemental Overload, etc, etc, it's over 160k.

After you hit this, you'll need to have ES gear and a bunch of refund points, so you can switch from life based to CI based. When you get your ES gear and 88 points to spend, you respec to this tree:

faster attack vs added lightning dmg

which 1 is more worth it

For me 19/20 added lightning adds 5K and 20/20 faster attacks adds 8K (tooltip). Also faster is so much nicer to use. I don't know why others have said they're equivalent.

because tooltip does not count penetration and whatnot, added lightning damage will do more damage with flasks up no matter what, however faster attacks is more annoying to roll on a chest piece as you would need 3 green instead of 2.

it could also add to the fact that a quality FA gem gives more attack speed while a quality ALD gives 10% more lightning damage.

With more % elemental damage boost on rings and stuff + with the lightning pen and flasks I'm pretty sure added lightning will give more damage, specially if you get one of the essence crafted "30% lightning damage" rings aswell + ele dmg.

but playing with faster attacks can feel more "smooth" for sure.

No it does not. It gives increased. Big difference.

Also an advantage of FA that noone has mentioned is that since you get more hits you have a better chance of keeping EO up permanently. And that's a huge boost.

I think it's easier to achieve high attack speed through jewels + skill points than getting flat lightning damage, so, for me in a high end setup ALD > FA .

Also I'd like to know, in the scenario where u could handle a third aura , which option would you choose:
(considering +1 gloves Enlighten lvl 4)
1- Empower 4 + Wrath 21 + Discipline 21
2 - Wrath 21 + Discipline 21 + Herald of Thunder 21
3- Wrath 21+ Discipline 21 + AA 21
