" Your analogy should be: You have 4 tanks of water, and 24 friends that want a shower. Every hour, one random colored boulder is put into one of the tanks. 1 tank can hold 6 boulders. You have until the 4 tanks are fill with boulders to figure out who gets to shower and when, but when all the tanks are filled, nobody will get showers, because its full of rocks. Every hour you can chose to take a boulder out, and no additional boulder will be put into the tank for that hour either, but nobody can shower during that hour. This is now your life, showering, or taking boulders out of cups. You can choose to buy additional water tanks at any time. Your analogy doesn't work because your premise is getting water, when this isn't about getting items, its about storing them and having to choose to omit having a percentage of items because of space restrictions. Stash tabs hold items, items that don't juts come and go like water does. There's a reason why its storage, not just a simple container to carry something; that would be your inventory. You don't address storing water, only consuming it and getting more, that's not what the stash tabs are for. ( I mean, you could use them that way, but then you don't need 4 tabs since you are always recycling whatever you put in it immediately ) Nor do you address what happens over time, as the storage fills up and you no longer have room to keep adding new "varieties of water", or even of the same kinds you previously had. It's not like you are hoarding all the liquids in the world, you just don't have enough room over time, and soon are wasting the few kinds of liquid that you chose to keep. Your only solution is to drain water as fast as you bring it in, regardless of how inefficient that is or enjoyable. It's simply a matter of not wasting incoming water..or wasting incoming water and sitting on what you have already for longer. There might be a drought soon, or a party of friends that are thirsty, you don't know; that uncertainty elevates the stress of storage. -- The shower, in my analogy, is the choice you made in how to use your storage; it's shower water, instead of drinking water, washing water ( clothes / dishes / etc. ) The water itself is your playtime, and the boulders are the gradual influx of items that you'll deal with, and that will require you to "clean house" frequently. The color of boulders is generally irrelevant ( items ), it's a matter of necessity to store the boulders because of what the game provides ( ever increasing currencies / craftables / gems / etc. ). You have to manage your playtime, spending it on a particular task ( collecting items for a singular purpose, because you don't have the space to splurge ), as well as a responsibility to spend it on clearing out your stash to keep the flow of gameplay going. You shower when you have the opportunity and there's time to let the boulders fill, and refrain from showering in order to clear out the boulders. What color boulders you clear out, and when, depends entirely on the importance of them being there. But as they fill up, you get less frequent trips to the shower and/or you lose precious boulders ( the only other option ) " Everyone used the trade channel for trading before trading via other methods became prevalent. The problem with that exception is that times have changed, and much less importance or activity is left to the trade channel now to trade. You can make trades, sure, but it's not nearly as effective ( or possibly profitable, because that's rather hard to gauge ) as using the other options that are being used much more frequently now. But we've been over this before. Is the sole valid definition "Because its possible" ? That seems like a really weak argument, like saying "Because I said so". In all arguments there is a possibility that counters the premise of the argument, but the argument is not about a 1% chance or "what ifs" , it's about the practicality and/or concerns that outweigh the outlines. It's not an argument about absolutes, because it's not an objective matter. " There are two things to note about your suggestions: 1. You seem to think that perfect distribution of drops happens all the time ( like chaos recipe ) I'm pretty sure you won't find a full set of rares every run to just convert, or every other run ( storing some in the stash as you mentioned ); at the very least not until much higher in levels and tiers. That means, storage needed, or forgoing the items altogether. Not efficient. And the same goes for maps, currency, essences, etc. You can't honestly believe that a person is just going to be able to "trade up" immediately when they acquire items do you? Even if they were, that's taking time away from playing the game to make sure you aren't using up too much space ( as pointed out prior ). That's not efficient / enjoyable. 2. You seem to think that a person is only going to get the best kinds of drops early on in their playthrough ( at the right time ). There's going to be a lot of "sub par" collections, gear, etc. that is important to keep ..but is not useful at the time being ( why throw out all the 5/6 links you can't use right now? Or maps to tiers you can't clear solo right now? etc. You might consider that even wasteful of space, but to get rid of them is a waste of time, and enjoyment. You can be much more "wasteful" of your found items when your currencies are stockpiled and you can afford to just trade for gear you need, but you need to get to that point somehow first, and that requires a lot more "sub par" storage and work to create the early currencies / build gear to reach that point. That needs space. You can't expect people to just stick to the highest loot filter from 1-100 because you are short on space as a new player. You gotta do everything in between too. And it's not like you can just "dump and go" when you reach a new milestone in levels / tiers. You gotta actually be at that point in your bank and character before you make that next omission. Your suggestions, while helpful in understanding what to keep and what not to...doesn't help when to keep, and when not to; or to prevent players from wasting time by being frugal / clean all the time. For someone much more familiar with the game and/or people who just speedrun through the early process that's fine, but that's nowhere near where new players are at. And that's the real bottom line. This is about new players, with 4 tabs. Not veterans who can force themselves to not need more than 4 tabs. |

" Sorry if i seem a little aggressive earlier. I see your point but when some players have problems with 10++ tabs, i don't think an extra tab or two will help much. 4 tabs is enough for a new player going through the 3 difficulties but for the ones who continue to play through maps and endgame etc, the limited 4 tabs will certainly start to seem not enough. They'll need to start learning inventory management but most tend to not want to do that. I'd assumed that they'll be the ones asking for more tabs as they are still learning what is worth keeping and what is not so they tend to just keep everything. For the ones who played through several leagues, i'm sure they'll already know what to keep and what not. Like many others stated before, these people are the ones who should really consider getting tabs and not asking for tabs to be handed to them for free if they really want to continue to enjoy the game. There'll never be enough tabs. I have an Alien pet. Last edited by kelongngu#4616 on Dec 1, 2016, 7:12:34 AM

" I agree that 4 tabs is not as big of an issue if you are just doing the 3 difficulties as compared to "end game" as well, but from my experience with the essence league ( even taking into consideration the abundance of essences ) ...4 tabs is really crunching it when you first start out. I hammered my first 4 tabs quickly before I even got to the end of act 4 normal. 1 tab for currencies, gems, essences 1 tab to store superior items for conversion into armor / weights / bobbles as they became available. 1 tab for "potentials", like rares that I could use in a few levels ( essence craft or drop ), or had a socket color / link that would be useful soon / later when my build changes at its next milestone ( like if i was going vortex / cyclone / etc. ) 1 tab for "savings", items that could be later rolled into uniques / rares worth trading for currencies when I have the time / spare materials. This saves me time in the long run. And that's being "frugal" on my end at the start. This will obviously evolve into higher recipes as lower ones fade out ( superior items for example ), but generally 4 tabs at the bare minimum is being used. I could shrink that to 3....but then I'm playing item tetris every single time i open up the stash..and it looks like a clown threw up inside. For my stress and need...I absolutely had to get more stash when I first started out years ago, when there was less need for space in general. It's understandable that veterans of the game have different expectations and requirements than new players, but they also forget what it was like to be a new player. It's Okay for new players to be a bit hoardy and suffocated with space, that's a learning curve everyone goes through. The issue, is to what extent they're drowning in where to put things and what to do. We had it a lot easier when PoE first released...and it was still Tetris. New players have it twice as bad, at least. And especially if they make it to beyond the 3 difficulties. And then what do we say to them? You "Should" be buying tabs about now? That's not how this "f2p" thing works right? At least on player principle. They shouldn't ever feel the urge to buy more tabs, let alone dire need to. These things are deemed as "luxuries". I believe there is a "enough tabs" line to be drawn, but I don't see how 4 tabs is that line, not now. And I don't buy into the Diablo 3 meme of "they'll just ask for more". That never actually happened with Diablo 3. We got our 10 tabs and people complain more about having to deal with the absurd requirements to get a tab than if we should even have more than 10 once we get them. I get nothing out of this "battle" myself. What am I going to do with 1-2 more tabs out of the dozens I have already. I'm just trying to shed light on the little guy, the one that's going to probably burn out quick from being overwhelmed with items with no where to put them, and/or start viewing the game as a cash grab system because of it. More new players that stay means more revenue, and more people to trade / play with. That's a win for me in the end I suppose. The stubborn ignorance of some people ( not pointing at you ) is bothersome though, and not helping with a discussion at all. They're beyond the scope of what importance this would make for new players and beyond the care of what happens to new players. They got over that hurdle already, like it's some sort of badge of honor that needs to be protected. Anyway, I appreciate the civility in your statements, even if they were a bit "loud" in some parts :P . |
