" While I do agree religion is full of BS, that's not quite the topic here. The topic in this case is the OP has a specific issue with something that was added to the game after he started playing the game. Clearly he found the content in the game before acceptable enough to play it with a clear conscience. Let's not dive into the "No True Scotsman" fallacy here and say "No true Christian would play this game." That is not up to anyone to decide. It is merely enough for someone to say "I'm a Christian and I play this game" to demonstrate that clearly a true Christian can play this game. That last sentence also demonstrates how meaningless a person saying they are part of a religion actually is. Last edited by Jackalope_Gaming#1826 on Nov 11, 2016, 5:36:11 AM

My suggestion to the OP (only a suggestion, and you should still go by what your personal conscience is clear doing), since I understand the point in question (and so many here are arguing points that are completely irrelevant to the point at hand):
If you can, take the following viewpoint of the in-game lore. You acquire things that ancient people of Wraeclast used to use as offerings to the goddess. You take that relic and place it in a technological device (that can open portals to locations all over the world, or more likely different turns your nightmare can take - it was called a revelry device, that let people explore their dreams, if I understand the lore correctly) that opens a dimensional portal to the labyrinth (or the nightmare that takes place in the labyrinth). Placing the relic in the device is not offering it to the goddess, it is giving the device some sort of data needed to pinpoint the dimension you want your portal to go to. However the device works, it is irrelevant that the item being used is an offering to a goddess. Ancient relics in the real world have historical and monetary value, but not because they are going to be used in a religious nature, perhaps displayed in museums.) That's my reasoning on the subject. Take it or leave it. |

If there is one thing I learned about super religious people is there is no reasoning with them.
If OP believes that using "Offering to the Goddess" ingame isn't something he should do because his religion then just don't do it, if it bothers you enough to not play the game, then don't play the game, but don't attempt to project your view (which is skewed) onto the designers or the design of the game. https://youtu.be/T9kygXtkh10?t=285

Shouldn't you be praying to the big oll boss up the sky for this change?
It seems kind of redundant to ask the developers if you can simply ask the root of all creation, no? That's some half-assed christian beliefs your demonstrating, where is your faith!? Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" Honestly I hope god as a... well a whole nest of secretaries. I mean not sure how many earths with potential life exist, but there could be quite a few so there are also a lot of prayers. We can even proof that he is very busy. Why did he only show himself so late in our history and why never again, he propably had other appointments, because technically someone born before jesus could not have believed in this version of god, because nobody told him to do so. So if celtic cultures worshipped stones, trees and basically everything they could find, that is likely because god forgot to tell them that they should believe in him :P Also it depends a lot if you are katholic or evangelic. If you are evangelic the god himself will give you the wisdom to interpret the words of the bible for yourself, this is a rather clear sign of the youth of the religion because even in the 16th century when the reformation took place the bible was mostly outdated, so they offered more freedom, so ask your conciousness if god would really be offended if you use this item. If you are katholic it is even easier, ask the pope, if interpretation of the bible is unclear he is the instance to decide about it. A surprising thing though is that a discussion about religion is a lot more civilized than most about actual Path of Exile topics, which basically means that we are a lot more emotional about the game than our religion (or the lack of one), which again means that the game could basically be a form of religion. |

" XD It's true that we tend to be quite emotional about the game and that GGG's choices seem to be considered as holy to some as religious texts are to others. |
