Comparing/Contrasting PoE and Diablo 3
Very nice post, Moogle, and I agree wholeheartedly. I am aware that not everything in Guild Wars is viable, it's more or less a fact of RPG games that there will only be a few ideal builds. I was simply pointing out that the lack of stat points did not hamper the game's customization in the slightest. Guild Wars Attribute system could easily be equated to passives in either D3 or PoE, and the skills could be compared to PoE's gems or D3's runes, and it still offers about as much customization as a player could ever want.

Nobody else recognized that the socket/gem allocation for PoE is similar to FF7's materia system?

I actually brought that up in a couple streams, however never mentioned it because it's mostly just a personal spin the game has, and I didn't feel like the comparison warranted being that specific because either way it's all about how the developer executes it.

A good thread among lots of spam.
I thought i had seen the last of ethics in gaming and along comes this gem. | |
Very insightful post, Abel. Cheers. Things I'm really liking about the game so far are the atmosphere, especially in caves/indoor areas where the light radius is in close to the character. Definitely makes you wonder what will shamble/slither/crawl in from the unknown and ambush you. Keeps you on your toes. I really like the flask system too, like D3 and its health orbs its designed to keep you in the action and pressing on forward (and the mods are a plus, take that D3!) Also, obviously - the passive skill tree ... BOOM! That thing is insane! I'm really looking forward to playing the game, CB or OB!
In this scarred, war-torn land - i walk the only clear path ... the Path of Exile. Last edited by reijin1287#0473 on Aug 19, 2011, 4:29:34 PM

I was looking forward for Diablo 3, since i've played 1 and 2 lots, but now with their real $$$ auction house I bet it's going to be nothing but grinding for dollars thus effectively making it more of a job than the core point of gaming which is to enjoy the play.
Seems to me Diablo has learned his lesson from 1 and 2 that straight forward fighting will only get him killed, so now he's corrupting you from within with greed and small amounts of dollars everywhere, slowly but steadily bringing you to the dark side. Tsk tsk I spit on you you capitalist pigs and hope PoE (which i will play over D3) doesn't fall for the hurr-durr-dollars-over-playing-to-win category. Just my 2 cents :) Whore Queen of Babylon

I couldn't have said it better myself,
I like how objective your being. People arguing that either game is crap are to put it frankly - idiots. there letting there subjective views influence what they say which is wrong. both games are valid and both will surely succeed. they have each taken different directions but that dosent make either of them inferior currently. " It wouldn't fit PoE's theme (all the classes are exiles). In D3, all the classes hail as heroes from their tribes, so naturally they would be both genders (unlike mono-gender heroes in D2 like Amazon matriarchs). In PoE, all classes are prisoners/exiles, and it would not make sense that a female marauder or male witch exist, or female templars, for that matter. The only two classes where opposite gender versions are viable are Rangers and Duelists. [Hardcore league]

I prefer PoE because of the sensation of a dark game, more than d3, and even more than d2.. and a lot things more like gem system, skills tree... <3 PoE !
