Offense is too good of a defense
Leech, Life gain on hit, flask on crit, etc.
Is supremely OP and is ___MANDATORY___ in every build at the end game. Last bumped on Oct 8, 2016, 7:09:36 AM

No it's because most defense suck ass it's not a hard concept you either 1 shot the thing or it 1 shots you or you tank through it that's how poe is right now.
Of course it's mandatory if you don't have it you're stupid like you aren't going to survive through t16's shapers etc if you don't have it because they hit so fucking hard that's the entire point of leech instant leech flask etc. Like I should make fun of you because I don't think you've done that type of content but I'll hold off because it's funnier. You wanna fuck with those the shit that you listed? Either you tone down the damage or bring the defenses up to par where they can actually do something end of story. If not and GGG wants to make everything hit like a trunk then they won't touch anything that you just stated because it's how it works. Either you 1 shot the boss or it 1 shots you Either you tank through the giant hits via large ES pool with flask or you will fall off like there's no mechanics in that an auto attack in like lets say shaper does about 5-7k per hit or a Phoniex blade spin does about 8k per second for 4 seconds upon a blade spin. NICE DAMAGE BRO how do you deal with that? Well derp the shit that listed. Dys an sohm Rohs an kyn Sahl djahs afah Mah morn narr Last edited by Coconutdoggy#1805 on Oct 7, 2016, 4:13:22 AM

You literally said that defense is worthless end game, and you need at least one of these mechanics to do end game.
So they must be too good of a defense. RIP :^) Well actually, block and dodge are pretty good - but not without the others. Last edited by ihasmario#4211 on Oct 7, 2016, 4:17:12 AM

" Sorry but your logic sucks. Offence is the only working defense that does not make it too good. All the other defences are just plain too bad! German saying: Schönheit und Funktionalität in Sekundenschnelle zu ruinieren, ist dem wahren Dilettanten keine Herausforderung!

" Tell that to my ED build that i just took in the Apex yesterday and swim in all the shit in there... no leech, no lgoh, no shit giving me OP flasks, Its all about knowing what defenses to use while at the same time balancing defenses along with offense. Too much defense and not enough offense will lead to a very undesirable slow irritating exp and can even believe it or not get you killed because for instance if you start getting swamped with adds and cant control them to the point they overwhelm you well your fucked. But on the same token stacking nothing but offense and foregoing defenses isn't going to get you very far in this game either. While there are some people who have some success with glass cannon builds they also tend to stop lvling around 90 or so. This is the exp penalty working as intended. This build im running right now Essence Drain not only is one of the safest builds ive ever run it also has considerable damage and has tons of room or grow into even more damage. I use no gimmicks just straight up stick and move. Its amazing just how much easier things are when you dont have to stand still in one spot for very long. Thats pretty key to making a build that will handle the content IMO. In fact ill be the first to admit my damage is almost garbage in comparison to some of these other guys running their meta builds.. But im havent fun, progressing the hardest content with no isues, can run ANY and ALL map mods, And again im enjoying myself so thats all that matters to me. I pay no mind to the BV build crushing 1 and a 1/2 to 2 maps to my one.. Im still progressing maps fine and saving tons of chaos while doing so. You've obviously never made a build with LAYERED defenses before. Thats always been the trick in POE.. JUST Evasion is indeed worthless as is JUST armour not going to get you very far at all. However stacking generous amounts of BOTH defenses will yield much more desirable results. But then you dont just stop there.. Block, Dodge, Overcapped Resistances are ALL extremely important when making something ment to handle to endgame content in Path of Exile. Even if its just a little bit of each they all work together to form a solid defense. Damage is the easiest thing to get in POE but its not the ONLY thing you need by any stretch of the imagination. Ofcourse unless you plan to struggle at endgame.. Which alot do because of attitudes like this. There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation. The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear. The way I see it, you have several defensive options. Each one has its own flaws that make it impractical as you push into later content.
LIFE - Life's problem is that few classes can scrape together enough of it to survive a meaningful blast. It's your last line of defense, generally, after the others fail. The problem is that the others will fail eventually and then you're screwed, since it's unlikely you'll have enough of a buffer to survive that one big hit you've taken. All the leech in the world won't help if you lose all your HP at once. ARMOR - Armor's scaling mechanics render it useless late-game where it doesn't stop the big hits, and in extreme late-game it won't even take the edge off them. Armor also being favored by melee, the kind of people who have to risk taking these big hits in the first place, just makes it even worse. EVASION/DODGE/BLOCK - These all fall under the same general 'ignore the hit a percentage of the time' mechanic, with Dodge and Block being better than Evasion because mob accuracy doesn't factor in. They're great... when they work. They also won't protect you from everything (Lab traps, spells without certain mods) so you can't rely on them to be your only defense. They're the butter of your defensive bread and butter, they make the main substance work better but if you use it by itself you're nuts. ENERGY SHIELD - Your best defense choice because of the massive buffer it provides and the fact you can make it work with all the goodies meant to benefit Life builds (Life leech, Vaal Pact, etc). This will give you the buffer you need to survive a big hit. Lots of little hits are your main worry, since they'll stop your shield from regenerating, but that's what your clearspeed build excels at killing, yeah? If it weren't so expensive and hard to level with, everyone would do it. MOBILITY - Yes, high movespeed is also a defense. Probably one of the best defenses. That which doesn't hit you, doesn't take your hit points. Most bosses have telegraphed attacks or clear markers defining where the super bad thing they're about to do will hit, so high mobility can be used to simply not be there when it lands. Mobility mainly runs into problems against attacks with little to no telegraphing or against bosses who fill the screen with crap, but also is a situational defense that not everyone has the reflexes and reaction speed to take advantage of. |

" Lemme know how many viable builds there would be without leech though. You'd need to build into like 20% regen or something nuts just to survive the insane damage output of high tier bosses. Since that'd require life you'd also be screwed because you wouldn't be able to play ES. Gone are the days when builds could rely on stacking defense like CoD/MoM builds, so now you have to run high base health/ES and rely upon leech as almost any direct damage build (or regen). I say direct damage but there are a few builds like summoners who can get away with it. Last edited by shaunus#5724 on Oct 7, 2016, 8:39:21 AM
