Counterintuitive to the current clear speed meta: Slow the Game Back Down
" Besides, if everybody's batshit powerful you don't have to bother too much with balancing things because it makes no difference. Makes sense. Nice to know it's intended not to bother making a tough but slow build if you're meant to see the products of your hard work 'every couple of maps'. No pressure, people, whack those moles. Yeah, first off thanks for the sort of a video answer on the issue, devs.
" also noticed that examples that they given affects melee the most, they seemed unaware. Initially I wanted to bash it and rant because they made it SUPER EASY: "we want players to relatively mindlesly grind" "we'd rather have it so you can kind of have the tv on while you're playing" WTF?! (seriously Chris? It's a staged interview, you don't put up quotes like that in a staged ******* interview. You'd get instantly fired if it wasn't your company, lol.) ... but without picking holes in their argument, I do generally agree with what the point they are trying to get across. Communication was terrible but I see what they meant with balancing around spikes of difficulty. I'm convinced until I see what AoW has to offer. It felt like they also intend to 'continue' to 'balance' around hc, but can't exactly pinpoint where I got it from so might be bs. That being said, I do still miss the time when leveling hc char was an actual challange for me personally.
off-topic on ZiggyD flood
On a sidenote (not that anyone cares) I'm disappointed witch how much of a "GGG spokesman" Ziggy has become. No-one is interested in an opinion of a person that will agree no matter what, unless they are a mindless fan of a said person or generally a sheep.
I get why they use him, everyone likes him - or at least don't dislike him. He's experienced, cool and diplomatic at all times. A very safe bet. Would like to see someone that can put up an actual argument rather than advocating for the GGG, I get it from business perspective but it's just insulting for the viewer intelligence. "feeling powerful is the reward for gear and progression you've done" chars are evidently powerful without those, Z. We have videos of people killing atziri with a white weapon or clearing merciless areas with no passives allocated. Come on. It's so just bland and obvious. I get why guys you don't want to get into argument with PT or let bakedchicken reveal a new unique "this bow is shit, yo - end of video" but it would actually be interesting and create more buzz around your product. Just please, don't go into your safespace with Ziggy ALL THE TIME from now on. I get it, he flew there himself on his own expense to produce content, it's great and we really all do appreciate... but if you adress an argument, use a streamer which is actually on the opposite side of yours. Not someone that is pretty much an unpaid community manager. If you convinced them, that would be meaningful. Don't downplay your customers. Video was like asking your parents if you're smart and beautiful while you have a booger hanging down from your nose. /edit: " see? people get aggravated when you insult their intelligence GGG. Rightfully so in that particular case. Last edited by Razis#4500 on Aug 30, 2016, 11:32:21 AM

Maybe i should clarify that not being surprised doesn't mean i particularly like it. :)
I'm somebody that deals with the cards he's given while still contemplating "what could be". @raics, yes that's basically why i took the boss example. If bosses could be trivialized by melee more easily, while the random content provides them more relative danger (or stress moments) this would balance out a bit. Since higher chance of map drops and loot etc associated with bosses and each map having at least one instance of such an occurrence. It's basically what i hoped atziri was going to be originally. Content that was easier for single target melee set-ups to give them a content based advantage over map aoe clears.(and an economical advantage) didn't exactly turn out that way. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

After watching the video, it is easy to understand where their philosophy was coming from. We don't want gaming to be "work" and you can only push slowing down your game so far.
I do wish tanky but low dps builds could have a place in the game but at best GGG seems to only care for support builds in the form of aura and curse carriers from the sounds of it. Presumably because they are giving these supports plenty of uniques and options in general to make these supports solo viable as well to a larger extent than a pure tank could be. This interview at least lets us know for the future that too tanky can kind of be an issue in terms of sacrificing dps while obviously our goal in builds can be to deal the most damage we can (in some form). Now, since GGG mentioned on reddit in the comments of a post that melee is going to be addressed in the patch, I hope they do an adequate job of it making the boss changes less melee killers and hurt ranged equally. I also personally hope that the pattern of "I can relax during this part... Now I need to pay more attention" is heavily shown in map boss fights, more commonly in higher maps. Seems fitting to allow people who don't want any stress for a good long while to be able to farm lower tier maps without super complicated map boss mechanics. At the same time, having the deadlier and pay attention mechanics should gate higher tier/level drops, not just "this boss hits harder because it is tier 13 and not tier 10." "It's all clearer now

My favorite part of the video was
"Translation: Starting after Normal Brutus, GGG wants you to understand that playing a melee build will kill you, and to work around that by rerolling as a ranged character. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

" I think it was just a bad example. Goat's molten shells are mostly ignorable when properly geared in any difficulty as they are. However, they do crap on melee when you are on your first character as you may want to wait to attack them which ranged characters don't have to. Just hoping that whatever melee changes are made there is also things being changed to make the attack from afar playstyle a tiny less desirable. "It's all clearer now

" Well, he did say they want shells to pack a punch, which they sadly do not at the moment. That probably means lack of time is to fault for that, not lack of desire. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" That's true. But it comes back to how the molten shell mobs then provide an obstacle that ranged characters need not worry about if they were buffed. In return, ranged characters need to worry about... what exactly? (at the moment) Note I am thinking of just ranged vs melee range characters, disregarding defense and mitigation differences. I thought of porcupines as a foil for ranged characters but they more so impact es and evasion characters more than armour rather than combat style as I was typing this. "It's all clearer now

Sure, I was just saying MS is a non-issue by oversight, not because they want it to deal crap damage.
Porcupines are harder on short range chars after all, the spikes spread as they travel so a ranged char would get hit by maybe half out of entire porcupine pack and a melee will eat them all. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" Those porcupines are the sole reason a casual player would find evasion or energy shield (to a lesser extent) short range skill unviable even in softcore. "It's all clearer now
