Top RPG of all time!

Either final fantasy 10 or final fantasy 8.
Yes, i have played them all.

I'm a 90s kid, I grew up on this sort of thing.

Definitely not 10... 8 was pretty damn good as was 7, yes I know its stereotypical but it was awesome, cloud was awesome barret was awesome sephiroth was awesome and the story was awesome, and chocobo racing was awesome.

That said though... I think I prefer wild arms (the first one) I've played that game through so many times and its absolutely awesome, and the intro music is the BEST intro music ever! whenever I play it I just have to listen to it a few times before I start playing
Shenmue.
FFTactics (psone is when I first played it, but now it's on my ps3)
FF6 (snes)
DA: Origins (I also liked DA2, but I played DA:O substantially more)
Chrono Cross (I liked this one more than trigger)
and...

Saga Frontier 2 (this game blew my mind as a child)

Another question difficult to answer for me. There are many very good CRPGs out there, and most excel in different areas.

TES: Morrowind gets my award for rich and bountiful explorable world. It also has quite a dense atmosphere. A paradise for explorers!

Dragon Age: Origins gets a mention because it revived something I had thought long forgotten: Engaging the player to think for himself, and also, that gritty dark atmosphere (yes, I put a lot of stock in that kind of thing). Minus though for the very limited world in terms of exploration.

Mass Effect gets a mention for its sheer immersion, and to have a Sci-Fi title in there. Minus points: Also, lack of exploration; plus your choices are very limited, if well played-out.

Baldur's Gate II is in my list because I really like just about everything about that game, but nothing quite so much that I would rate it as "eternal favourite".

Lastly, Planescape: Torment: Because of its complete different take on CRPGs, its strange setting, its psychological and philosophical pondering, its focus on dialogue instead of on combat.

I couldn't pick one out of those. And though I do really love Diablo, and it's one of my favourite games of all time, I didn't include it here, because to me, it's more about action than about Role-Play.
12/12/12 - the day Germany decided boys are not quite human.
Darksiders and Bioshock 1/2 ! :)
BG series / Icewind Dale 2
D2
Morrowind

Ya know, fable's great too in my opinion.

In my opinion, there is none, seriously! There are some games, that are in one way better than others, but each and every game has their limits and those limits of what you can do in the game are different for each and every game and well every game has limits, although best rpg game, I have ever played was and still is Diablo 2: LOD and I don't think, that Diablo 3 will be as satisfying as people from Blizzard say so, because people, who made Diablo 2 aren't working there anymore.

Why Diablo is better than other games? Simple answer: it has random map generation, item generation, monster generation, which makes the game world re-playable each and every time you play it, so you can play it over and over again and never get bored about the same scenery.
Tough question, so many good RPGs out there. My first thoughts would be, while completely different, a toss up between Planescape: Torment and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
Planescape for the brilliant dialog and actually making choices matter in the course of the game and have a distinct influence on the ending as well as being a much deeper game than by far most I've ever played.
Morrowind scores high because of the amazing atmosphere and overwhelming sense of freedom as well as the backbone of the story with its grounding in political and religious struggle that ran throughout the main story and many of the side quests.

One thing both of these games had in common though, was that both invited me to explore despite being distinctly hostile. No cheery, ever helpful strangers on ones path, but always mistrust and hostility, it painted a harsher picture but also made it easier to be a less agreeable person.
Another thing both games had in common was some of the wildest fantasy art direction I've ever seen. Strange and beautiful landscapes and architecture made both games feasts for the eyes (and yes...I'm in happy denial of the awkward character designs and palsied animations in Morrowind).
Just like a penguin in bondage.
