I love POE but I've watched the Lost Ark gameplay

Its like a movie, action, drama, musical, all of them different but still movies. D2 was not an RPG,its ARPG,which stands for action-role-playing game,MMORPG-Massive-multyplayer-openworld-role-playing-game. And there is a really big difference between RPG,ARPG and MMORPG. For example Neverwinter nights or baldur's gate are RPG-s,while D2 is Action RPG,where you go and destroy entire screens while in the other you have to play way more slowly and with better tactics.

MMORPG,you play your character (roleplay) in a massive online world(MMO).So yea, there is a difference, all of them have "RPG" in their name as a genre, but totally different play style and economy/purpose.

And don't get your hopes for Lost Arc too high, for 10 years there is not a single KR MMO that didn't fail in the western market,by having poor services, becoming P2W and pretty much deserted by its players and leaving only elitist tards that will get you to play with them only if you have spent 5 years of your life grinding or paying/playing the meta class.

A single god damn one...

LE looks to be a mess. A in-house engine that's already 5 years out of date? No thanks.

I know, right! In-houe engines need to be at least 10 years out of date....

ok i just want to be clear.

arpgs vs mmorpgs

-playstyle-
arpgs : you go and destroy entire screens
mmos : play way more slowly and with better tactics

-characters-
mmos : you play your character (roleplay)
arpgs : ?? (maybe not roleplay?)

-economy-
arpgs : you pickup things and use, trade or sell them?
mmos : you pickup things and use, trade or sell them, also?

-purpose-
arpgs : character progression?
mmos : character progression, also?

ok, maybe it's the playstyle. maybe something is wrong with my mind/brain that i make this really difficult. just the playstyle then. a cursory google search i got was..

"Marvel Heroes technically calls itself an MMOARPG, as opposed to a WoW style MMORPG. The difference there being the active combat, dodging attacks via player skill rather than character abilities."

so active combat, dodging attacks via player skill rather than character abilities. sooo is POE an mmo then, NHK666 could be correct. lol.

thanks Kasapnica for the reply, anyway whatever it is POE and D2 is an arpg and WoW is an mmo. :)

.
engine/graphics is nearly meaningless in this genre. hell, Id argue in any genre, but that will probably open a can of worms.

graphics or engine being new is literally the very last thing I look for in games. I couldnt give a shit if an arpg coming out today would use Diablo 1 graphics. in fact, I would encourage it. D1 was scary and atmospheric.

Marvel is ARPG but with many people, though it added raids so its kind of hybrid between MMO/ARPG.

Just check a gameplay video of Neverwinter nights or baldurs gate and then compare that to poe or D2,you will see the difference. The crucial part in all of this is the "RPG" part, the letter before the "RPG" pretty much dictates the playstile.

damn. really?! that's not good. i guess i'll just have to push ggg then (lol), a better playstyle than the attack speed / clear speed meta. :D

but i really appreciate how ggg kinda talks and listens to their playerbase. new content is being developed and incrementally updating and upgrading (fixing) this free game with expensive stash tabs. lol. :)

Looks like dota 2 and diablo 3 had a baby.
IGN: Arlianth
Check out my LA build: 1782214
ooh.. they are korean mmo.. you know what that mean?
That mean that only real no lifer will enjoy the game, it will take more time to reach a lvl 50 than a lvl 100 in poe, there will be rebirth, item upgrade to +10 with a 0.05% success or lose item etc .. etc..
Look at the old but so good mu-online.. 400 lvl + rebirth, i was unemployed at this time, played full time, used bot during my sleep time, was just able to reach lvl 180 in nearly a year so no thx..

MMORPG characters are made in a character maker generally, whereas ARPG seems to be more "pick a character"
economy to me is similar, yeah
MMORPG purpose is character progression more to the tune of you, yourself getting stronger, where ARPG is your character that you control getting stronger

I generally view them as
MMORPG: You are your character, this is your story, a lot of places in the world have other players with their story (that is pretty much the same)
ARPG: You control this character, this is a story, a couple places in the world have other players with a similar story (that is pretty much the same)
MMOARPG: You control this character, this is a story, a lot of places in the world have other players with a similar story (that is pretty much the same)

I agree the animations are pretty bad.
