Is THIS really necessary?

I agree with the majority in this thread. Firstly, the person opening the trade thread probably didn't have any bad intentions. Secondly there's more than just one meaning to the swastika.

This. I've known several German over the years and every time something even remotely related to this topic is touched they become incredibly overly sensitive. It's impressive.

Edit: Thank you German posters in this thread for proving me right.

This thread is absurd.

Symbols can have various meanings given different contexts.

It would be like me saying im offended by an eagle symbol because it also represents Naziism.
But wait isn't the Eagle part of american symbolism too?
So i guess it's okay then.

Again symbols only have meaning given their specific context.
There is none here .

But whiney easily offended people will always exist and have their way because everyone is so afraid of "offending" others.

One day we will all just stare at blank screens since there is always something that "offends" someone , be it symbols, the human body, or even natural behaviour.

Absurd and sad.
im not sure if i can call myself a jew... i dont belive in god, i eat unkosher food and im not even circumcised. but my mom is jewish, so... lets say that i am jewish, and as a jew i dont really care.

i mean, its just a symbole... and symbole are for simple minded people.

You know that isn't a Nazi symbol right?

Thats a reversed swastika, which is actually a symbol for "good luck" in many asian countries.

That's called indoctrination. Germans have to think about that Stuff the way they do. They don't seem to realize, that there are other cultures, nations or whatever, where this or other symbols have a total different meaning. GGG is not a german company (thank god), so there is no need to lock that thread.
Beta Member since 4. September 2012 Oh Yeah
funny ppl talking about that not knowing that its another symbol... 卐 is what ur talking about
The Nazi Swastikas point to the right and are tilted 45 degrees, Buddhist ones point to the left and are not tilted. The Buddhist ones were around long before the Nazis were. If you are a moderator you should know what you are talking about before you say you "fix" something.
And this is why humanity is doomed. People's intelligence goes down the drain with each generation, truly sad.

This is the real swastika:
Spoiler

This is the Nazi swastika. If you look closely, this one looks like two crossed "S",
Spoiler

So I really do not see the problem here.

Words and symbols like these are meaningless otherwise.
Yes, symbols are meaningless when divorced from their meanings, but that's a tautology.

Speaking of absurd, how can there be no context? We're on the internet, with a large number of people whose only experiences with swastikas have been either: A) Nazis or B) edgy kids who put swastikas on things and then say HO HO HO OLD SYMBOL TOTALLY NOT NAZIS

Do you really think 'aaronjones' is legitimately using the swastika for some historical meaning in a cultural context where that makes sense, or is he posting in a context where B above is more likely?

C'mon guys, it may have had a thousand different meanings for other thousands of years and it's a shame that people abuse certain symbols for their own cruelties, but everyone knows what background the swastika implies nowadays, this is not some hindu trade market, it's a globalized forum, filled with educated people.

Hindu trade market and educated people comparison. The level of ignorance is high.

It should have probably been "Indian trade market" and it wasn't meant to call Indians uneducated, but to pick a certain cultural background, where the swastika still might have a different meaning than in most "western" societies. So sorry if that came out wrong, probably the worst thread for such a twisted comparison. ;)

Anyways, I can understand that for many people, such symbols aren't of much concern, but I'd like it, if those people understood, that they are to many Germans.

Also @Reizoko: figured you were German, had the same thoughts like you about OP, but had to take a different approach to the topic. ;) I totally see what you mean, though.
