Diablo III will crush this game...hell with ur beta!
I've watched god knows how many play throughs by a person who made sure to explore everything possible (They did a complete run-through with all the characters). As such I know pretty much everything thats in the beta so far and all those videos just made me want to play it less and less. At the start I watched them because I was super excited for D3 and wanted to see any content I could of it. By the end I was hoping for something to make me actually want to play it but nothing happened.
The story wasn't really gripping it was just killing leoric which I did already in D1. The animations were good, the skills weren't bad but poe has more and I prefer the support gem system. The lore, well the lore WAS good in D1 (I listened to all the backstory in the original ps1 version of the game) and loved it but it seems they've just got lazy since then while the poe lore looks prety damn good (love the brutus and mereviel story). The crafting there isn't much of yet I know but it doesn't look to amazing.. and most likely it will end up being worthless unless instead of good item drops from high end bosses they change it to good crafting mat drops which is basically the same as having to farm for gear except you need to make it after you've farmed for it. And of course lets not forget that D3 has no randomly generated zones like poe does, instead it has dungeons which randomly open which frankly is just a lazy way of trying to give the game replayability but of course its very limited as sooner or later (most likely sooner) you will have played all the dungeons and you will know exactly what every part of the game looks like and where to go for every part of it (not an issue with poe) The real money AH is stupid as hell as I've said a ton of times so I wont go into it again. D3 only lets you have 4 characters in each instance so its not very multiplayer friendly. I know you want to think that I'm just a poe fanboy but the fact is I was a Diablo fanboy until I saw what was in D3 and it completely turned me off it while poe has everything I was hoping D3 would have. |

I must agree to WarBarney's post. I love D1 and D2 but what they made in D3? That's really bad.
You can customize your char ONLY with items. Every char of same type is identical to another at same level if you don't consider items, which is sad, really SAD. It mean, that your char is nothing, just item carrier. So you can "buy" your char in AH (or RMAH). I really like PoE more than D3 even If I saw only vids from both. I love new fresh mechanics in PoE like passives. I really hope for beta invitation so I can try it! |

Watching a video and playing it aren't remotely the same. I'll hit your points one by one.
Story/Lore. In PoE, Each of the monsters is summed up with a couple of paragraphs on the website. The areas are the same. Inside the game, the quests are laughably bad, and extremely vague. Diablo 3 has literally entire books of lore behind it. The Book of Cain that just came out is chock full of lore from cover to cover, for everything from the world itself to the monsters, to the heroes. I saw more story in the bit of Diablo 3 beta (where they are intentionally hiding the story to save it for the full game) than I saw in the entire PoE beta. Skills. Animations are better, and Diablo 3 has more skills... and the kicker is, the Diablo 3 skills are UNIQUE. Each class (5 classes) has 20+ skills. Each skill can be affected by 5 different runes, which change how the skills function. And that doesn't even include the passive skills. PoE has less skills, they're generic, and the gigantic passive skill tree doesn't really add anything.. it's stuffed full of a bunch of tiny little "+2% to attack speed" type stuff that is barely noticeable. Crafting in Diablo 3 simply rocks. Your attack on that makes clear you don't know what you're really talking about. By far the best gear i've got in the beta has come via crafting, not drops. And Blizzard has said the same will hold true in the full game.. it's possible to get better crafted items than even the best dropped items. It's all random, since the crafted items have lists of random modifiers. Randomly generated zones? The beta's not a good indication as it's only a few areas and Blizz has stated outright that it's simplified for beta purposes. The full game will have randomly generated dungeons, and the outdoors areas are full of randomly generated events. I'm not sure why you think PoE's outdoor map changing (slightly. they're almost always a similar layout) makes a big difference here. The RMAH is a moot point. If you don't like it, don't use it. It was put in because the community was buying items with cash anyway, but in a far more dangerous way. Blizzard is simply being the go-between for those who would have done it anyway. Multiplayer? It's a different style game, for one..but I can't count the number of times i've actually been in a group of more than a couple of people in PoE on even one hand. You're not doing raids where you need 10 people to kill a boss.. i'm not sure why a 4 person limit is all that detrimental. But i'm done, either way. Not like i'm going to convince anyone on a PoE forum that PoE isn't the second coming, and that there are better games out there. You're here because you're a huge PoE fan. That's cool. " Please don't paint everyone here with such a broad brush. There are plenty of us here that are looking forward to both games and have found things to like and dislike in both of them. What someone likes in a video game is purely subjective. Just because someone hates a feature that you think is pretty cool doesn't make them a mindless fanboy. Trying to convense them that their wrong for feeling that way does. Last edited by RWTD_Burn#0944 on Feb 9, 2012, 4:18:00 PM

" I've made clear from the start that both games are good. I have both, I play both, I enjoy both. When certain people refuse to see the good in a product simply because it's a competitor, that's a fanboy. |

No I fail to see the good in it because I don't see anything I like in it, as was said its subjective and I subjectively don't like D3 or anything about it, everything I've learnt about it just makes me not like it even more and the real money AH is just a mail adamantium nail in the huge adamantium coffin (had to use adamantium as while its not real its suitably impossible to break making thus making sure the crap that is D3 is kept in).
I've already said it has good points but they aren't even close to good enough considering how much money and time was spent on it which to me just makes it shoddy, give poe a bit of time and it will soon be 100x better than D3 unless blizzard can start adding content at a faster rate, right now it looks like an expansion for d3 might be ready in 5-6 years at best and a D3 perhaps in the next 20. I'd rather support a game with a future than one which from the looks of it is on the way out |

I must say you have the brains of a mollusk though for saying *Well don't use the AH*.... so while everybody is buying power and thus being massively better you should just NOT use it.. ye thats a great plan. They should just start selling hacks as well, and if you don't like hacking just don't use em, sure people who do will always do better than you but oh well thats your fault for not using it.
I hate to get personal but that was the dumbest most fanboy thing to say ever. You go around calling everybody here fanboys but then refuse to admit theres anything wrong with D3, that AH is the most retarded things EVER, there was any number of things they could do to stop people buying items but instead they went for this money grubbing option which will ruin the game ecnonomy and make pvp pointless, I just hope they aren't dumb enough to add pvp because the only people who will take part are those with a big wallet. |

" But WarBarney doesn't hate D3 because it's a competitor, he hates it because of what he feels Blizzard has become and because of what they've done to Diablo. He's not a fanboy, he's a hater. ;) Last edited by RWTD_Burn#0944 on Feb 9, 2012, 5:51:30 PM

When did the internet only have haters and fanboys... I would personally describe myself as liking poe despite it having some flaws which need fixing, not liking D3 because it just doesn't offer what I was hoping it would while poe does and the AH system is a huge pile of crap and by buying the game I would be supporting that idiocy.
As for blizzard... well yes I'm definitely a blizzard hater, but I have enough hate for 2! I hate EA as well for utterly destroying warhammer online the best idea for a MMO ever and then not even bother to try and fix it but instead pull all the money and devs from it so it can only just stay open and instead put them all to work on TOR which was still released early with to little content and wasn't even original in and way shape or form!!! (though the story looks good). Sadly it looks like all the big game companies are starting to get like this, just out for making money while putting the least effort and money into their games as they can as they know people will buy any franchise piece of crap they put out, why else would they make so many CoD games when they are all god awful And of course as I'm now learning it seems blizzard are masters of cutting out content then never putting it in, which apparently they have been doing since their first WoW expansion which was missing lots of content they said it would have and the content it did have included a rehashed dungeon. And lets not forget that companion scrolls and scrolls of reforging are now GONE from D3..... they have said they will put them in later but D3 is a one off purchase.. so whats the chance of them adding them for free... the only way this constant stream of things they're removing from D3 will ever make it into the game is as paid DLC.
