Who else plays with sub-30 fps in solo play?

I used to play at 10-15, down to about 4 or 5 vs vaal. Now I play at 40. There's a fix.

Go to documents>games>PoE>Production_Config, find texture quality. It should be at the default 1, change it to 4 (a higher number = lower graphics quality). Your game will look like shit, but it will be the smoothest shit you've seen.
Some skills are doing weird things, most of the time I play around 140-150 FPS - BUT!
As soon as I press lightning strike, my fps drops to 6. Other abilities that cause this are ice spear, arctic breath, lightning shot, voidbearers, maybe arc.

Every other skill in the game has basically no impact on my framerate, but those do. Maybe each of those skills have inherent light emission and are altering shadows everytime they cast?

Also Docks drops my framerate simply by zoning in. Don't know why, but I don't have problems with other zones.
Hi
I have a Q9550 cpu and an ATI Radeon HD 5570.
I run the game in widowed mode so I can run the task manger and amd overdrive option while the game is running.
This gives me an idea of how much horsepower is needed to run the game.
I find all 4 cores pushing about 40% usage and the video card about 99%. Fan speed about 70%.
So the hardware is working pretty hard.
Doing this may give you some insight as to how much resources are being used by your machine.
I'm not really sure how the number of cores is affected by the game.
Might be worth a try.

Thanks for the tip! I will try that.

I am usually pretty skeptical about programs with the word "booster" in their name, but I read quite a few good things about Razer Game Booster and tried it out. I wouldn't say it helps tremendously, since I tend to keep my PC pretty clean of unnessecary processes to begin with, but I have definitely noticed an improvement while using it.

Fine solo horrendous in group. i'm playing on a i7 3820 and a 7970. But it seems to be an issue with amd. Might have to change gpu.

I couldn't. I would get a headache after 10 minutes of playing.

It's not that bad , as long as the fps is stable and not peaking in both ways constantly

I would recommend that. Nvidia blows ATI out of the water these days. Seems as though a lot of games have trouble with ATI cards, but Nvidia is smooth as always. It's just a better company developing better hardware, in my humble opinion.

That's quite the statement. Recently amd has proven to be competative with it's new drivers. 7970 beats 680,670 pretty good. it is just this game wich has given me issues. Though I can agree Nvidia is more stable.

I just tried out your fix. You don't even know how happy you've made me. However my computer isn't so bad that I needed to set it to 4. First I tried out 3, and it looked like Everquest graphics but it ran buttery smooth. Then I tried 2, and that's the ticket. It looks good enough so that I can actually somewhat enjoy the visuals, and my framerate now stays at a constant 50-60 even while spamming Lightning Strike with 3 detonated fire traps on the ground.

Thank you so much, you dear kind soul. I demand that you let me reward you somehow. Whisper me in-game for a free chaos orb <3

I bought my laptop 6 months ago and can play amlost any game on mid/max with 30+ fps. But path of exile gives me trouble. i have 60~ fps in towns full of ppl and so, but as soon as party combat starts all the skills slow the game to around 10-20 fps. Skills are the only thing which ruin the fps.
