Full Evasion/Dodge Melee Character
I'm planning on trying one, but really am worried about this with end game content(for me it's mapping from t1-11), anyone have success with one?
I'm planning on using wildstrike ( i know i know it's not great) with Rangers Raider class and just stack frenzy and attack speed, just not sure if I'll have the survivability to do anything. I want to stack as much life as I can, it's just kinda challenging in that part of the tree. Thanks a lot for the feedback. Last bumped on May 31, 2016, 10:31:05 PM

Evasion dodge melee is sketchy at best.
You need Lightning Coil at minimum for this build to be viable. Better with Taste of Hate too. |

Do you think Iron Reflexes would be good instead? Just convert the massive evasion i get through Frenzy charges to armor?

I've tried evasion/dodge melee a couple times and there's always the same 3 issues. If you do physical damage and have AoE of any type (like Reave, no idea what Wild Strike will do), you will 1 shot yourself to reflect on a random monster you didn't see/is offscreen. Other issue is you have to kill monsters before they to you or they will 1 shot you with physical damage. And lastly, physical spells where your only defense is dodge, so again, gotta kill before they hit you which is random. It's a lot of fun in lower tiers but becomes (at least for me) too annoying to push high. Too many bosses that you have to skip, too many map mods you can't do. I switched my crit reave to armor and it worked better for me but life/armor isn't easy to get on the right side of the tree.

since the introduction of Basalt flask there is really no problem doing 100% eva/dodge builds. it is just a matter of knowing how to do it.
one solid advice - try to not copy builds, try to not listen to various (frequently worthless) quick conclusions ('it is impossible', 'it sucks' etc) as most of these are not backed up by personal experience try it yourself, plan it for a while, try to understand what works why etc. |

It works fine as long as you have a bit of mitigation too. If you can grab an endurance charge from duelist start and bandits, 5 of them and fortify will give you enough reduction to survive most encounters.
Here's a fairly squishy unleashed char of mine using that combo, I've done 9-10s and died only once since I started doing maps so we could say it works good enough. She's very melee with Molten so if you used something like Reave and had one or two extra layers of defense like acro and basalt it would be ok, not something I'd play in hardcore but still a pretty solid char. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T64CflHzrnQ Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs. ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/balancedux]► ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/one-vision1]► Last edited by raics#7540 on May 31, 2016, 11:46:51 AM

" yeah I was thinking fortify with Endurance charges as well, maybe daresso's or something along those lines |

I tried a Frenzy Tank (actually using Frenzy) last League, and while it had shit gear and I stopped in early maps, it worked out.
I managed to get 74% dodge and permanent smoke uptime, and it was extremely survivable for the measly 2.6k hp it had (again, shit gear). Main problem with it: Some bosses will oneshot you, and they will eventually hit. Obviously, it's by far not as safe as ranged, and with wildstrike you have potential range to hit offscreen reflect. Risky, but possible. If worse comes to worst, you could still spread out your defences, Evasion is a solid base, and dodge is essentially block with extra penalties attached (though no equipment check). Zaanus:
Global chat: Mechanics for A work one way, B for another, C for a third but also with A, B uses C but not A, and D uses A&B but not C ___ Isn't a "no" better than an ignore? |

A full EV/Dodge build is fine if you just stack those high and have enough life + mitigation to survive one shots and reflect rares. I've even run a phys reflect Tropical Island with big packs of bugs and monkeys on my EV/Dodge Earthquaker (full cleared for the unid'd map challenge). Her damage isn't insane, though. I had Jade, Quartz, and Basalt flasks in addition to Grace and Hyrri's Ire, but no Fortify, endurance charges, or CWDT/Immortal Call. Still, I really don't recommend running any phys reflect maps on an EV/Dodge build. A string of really terrible RNG on your dodges at the wrong time can kill you instantly.
Basalt flask, fortify, endurance charges, and CWDT/IC can all help with big hits and reflect. I don't think any of them are necessary unless you have insanely high damage or very low life. They're just really good to have if you can get them without making any huge sacrifices. |

The answers are all quite interesting to read... especially since I'm currently leveling a ranger for exactly that kind of build xD
This build is going to be, like most of my builds, pretty weird though. I will pick up acro and phase acro, but instead of hyrri's I wanna use Queen of the forest and dual wield Dreamfeather, maybe I'll also get atziri's step (if I can afford it that is). I'm pretty sure it's gonna suck, but I thought it might be worth a try. I haven't really decided on a main skill though... so far my ideas include Ice crash, Dual strike, Reave, Cleave and Wild strike. Which one of those would you guys recommend? I make dumb builds, therefore I am.
