I would really, really like an offline mode PoE

I already play as if it were. Making me pay for the privilege? Dunno. Even back in the days of desync, I wouldn't trade the increased performance for the cuts that would have to be made.

You might play it the way you play single player, but other people play single player games differently. Mods for example would probably be pretty popular, you might not use any but it would be an option for others.

You wouldn't pay anything, you could just keep on playing multiplayer the way you do already.
Me too, but it would kill online mode because of cheating. So won't happen in the foreseeable future.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

I want to know how too. Seems like every single league we have plenty of cheating online. Bots, maphack, RMT, etc. Post today about a guy who was botting, or wait he was faking it for 3 hours... yeah I believe that. Just like how redacted doesn't cheat every league, got his lvl 100 character deleted but I'm sure that was all just a misunderstanding.

I don't see a rampant increase in cheating happening online if there was a single player version, most the people that want to cheat seem to be doing so already.
Only if it would ship with proper modding tools. (..paging Brother Laz.. :P)

The same exact game, just ofline, would suck ass. Esp. the endgame is currently all designed around multiplay & trading.

There is a lot of server side only code (damage/movement calculation, item generation...) that you would need to include into an offline mode of PoE. You think maphack is cheating? Try godmode, speedhack, wallhack, infinite damage hack, duping, direct item manipulation... it would literally destroy the game.

But only for the offline version, what does it matter if offline characters never transfer to live realms.

The hackers would learn how to do it in the offline version and then apply that knowledge to the online version. Same thing happened to D2. Why do you think some code is server side only? It's a protection measure.

So there's no way for them to change the server side to client side code enough to prevent this? Don't know what I'm talking about but it seems like it should be possible to make them not correlate enough to protect it.
