Why don't some people pick up currency or do the chaos/regal recipe?

I was watching havoc's stream. I noticed he avoids picking up a lot of stuff that I pick up. Chrome items, chance orbs, gavels. He vendors any unwanted rings/amulets he finds, instead of saving them for vendor recipe. This is something I've noticed from a lot of other experienced streamers as well

Is it actually more economically efficient to do what he does (time=money) or is this just being lazy?

You should NOT be picking up chromes, hammers or pretty much anything less than fusing/chaos orb because you will net more wealth by simply moving on quickly.

Scrolls are also a no no because you can buy hundreds of scrolls for a single chaos.

A lot of players wonder why they arent progressing and its because their using badly optimized builds and picking up chrome recipe items and doing hammer recipes.

Has that economic superiority been proven in any way?

Does it remain economically superior if we assume a player has no magic find and does not sell items?

'Has it been proven in anyway'

Strict answer-No

However, playing for 500 hours and more at 200K dps and +80% movement speed and seeing chaos orbs drop everywhere...

It is just too obvious to the top 1% that picking everything up is losing time(=money) than earning them.
Having said that if you do not enjoy the kind of clear speed Havoc enjoys, then it is actually worth picking up the lesser currencies since you do not lose much anyway.

The person mentioned is not using any mf and looking at any high ranked ladder runner you see they all play mostly the same. That is, efficient map clears with as little time managing inventory as possible.

What cracks me up about those streamers though is the way the have their loot filter sorted.

They have all these drops which are increased in size, and coloured in different colours, which they basically never pick up. You'd think if efficiency was important they'd get a better loot filter.

If they had good loot filters, then you'd see them pick up pretty much everything that dropped, because most of the stuff they didn't want to pick up would be hidden.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

I completely agree but alas not everyone is comfortable in a basic text file.

Any filter using eye sore purple filters for anything other than a mirror is counter productive.

But how does he maintain a map pool if he only picks up fusings and up? Theres 1 fusing drop per map on average and less than 1 chaos per maps on average. running a high level map cost 4 chisels + 1 alch at minimum (not even counting zana mods) so all their currency from map drops would go into that. Where does the profit comes from if they dont pick up any rares?

Because almost everything, including their gear, is donated to them. What you see in those streams is not a realistic representation of the game.
